[Bug 658723] Re: VNCServer/Gnome - letter d minimizes window
As reported in Pressing h hides the window Edit Ubuntu “vnc4” package Bugs Bug #1297904 Installed RCN build of 14.04 on BBB, added gnome-desktop, tightvncserver. At first VNC connect, plain gray screen with X cursor in VNC. Edited .vnc/xstartup per http://askubuntu.com/questions/475023/how- to-make-vnc-server-work-with-ubuntu-desktop-without-xfce. Now works, except 's' and 'd' are always shortcuts to system menu and minimize all. So it isn't just vnc4 or 13.10... Also up and down arrows are max/minimize! Can't use command history! I fixed the 's' with dconf-editor: in org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings, Toggle shaded state was ['PrimaryAlts'] No idea what shaded has to do with showing the system menu... 'd': Hide all normal windows ['PrimarySuperd', 'PrimaryAltd', 'Superd'] Also maximize and unmaximize... Actually I searched for keybin (couldn't type the 'd'!) and zapped anything with Super in it. This would be easier if I could navigate in the dconf-editor window. My mouse wheel moves several screenfulls up or down per click, clicking above or below the scroll thumb moves way more than a screenfull, and dragging the thumb moves the content about 1/8 of cursor distance. The only reliable way to see all of the entries is to use the down arrow key to step through all of them! And I'm only using dconf because somehow my System-Preferences-Keyboard Shortcuts panel is missing - just not there... Can't find any clues how to fix that. [Bug 1005091] [NEW] NetworkManager does not manage device after install on IPv6 network
Public bug reported: When installing Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 with debian-installer on a network with IPv6 enabled, NetworkManager disabled network interfaces from automatically configuring via DHCP in /etc/network/interfaces, but does not disable them from automatically configuring IPv6. This prevents NetworkManager from taking over control and managing the network interface because it still appears to be maintained by the ifupdown, but has IPv4 disabled from configuring at all. The resultant /etc/network/interfaces file looks like this: # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface auto eth0 #NetworkManager#iface eth0 inet dhcp # This is an autoconfigured IPv6 interface iface eth0 inet6 auto Because there is a non-commented iface line for eth0, NetworkManager never takes over management. [Bug 231192] Re: [Network Settings GUI] DNS Server and Search Domains Add buttons overwrite item currently being edited
I am still running Ubuntu 8.04 (for 3rd party software support reasons) but it is fully up to date. I have just tested this bug and found it to still be intact. Let me detail the steps to reproduce the bug and let me know if you can reproduce it in Karmic Koala. 1) open the System-Administration-Network application 2) Select the DNS tab 3) click the Unlock button and enter the password to unlock the dialog 4) Click the Add button (to add a new DNS server) 5) for example let's type 8.8.8.8 HERE IS THE BUG: 6) now say we want to add a SECOND DNS (say 8.8.4.4) the obvious thing to do is click Add a second time If you haven't pressed Enter, clicking Add will remove the 8.8.8.8 entry and replace it with Type address.. and search domains works the same way. -- [Network Settings GUI] DNS Server and Search Domains Add buttons overwrite item currently being edited https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 391384] [NEW] same gnome game freezes up after completion
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-games Ubuntu 9.04 1:2.26.1-0ubuntu2 On completing game, the dialog boxes do not come up (either, high score dialog box or the start new game dialog box) nor can I use the menu bar to close the game out or anything else. The only way to get anywhere is to hit the escape key several times to get a new game to start, then the game again works correctly till the end of the game. This only seems to happen after the first or second game. So it is an intermittent problem. [Bug 231192] [NEW] [Network Settings GUI] DNS Server and Search Domains Add buttons overwrite item currently being edited
Public bug reported: This is a bug in the Network Settings GUI in Ubuntu 8.04. This applies to the DNS tab on the Network Settings dialog: UBUNTU VERSION: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 BUG DESCRIPTION: if a DNS server IP address or a search domain is being edited (or is selected for editing with the text cursor flashing in it) and you click the + Add button, the item you are currently editing will be replaced by the new entry. DESIRED BEHAVIOR: When a field in the either list is being edited, clicking the add button should close the current item *AND* add a new one (perhaps unless the current item isn't valid). The same bug applies to the Search Domains list This is a look and feel issue, but is very unintuitive. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Network Settings GUI] DNS Server and Search Domains Add buttons overwrite item currently being edited https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 231218] [NEW] unable to fix bad mounting options without editing gconf manually
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-mount OS AND PACKAGE VERSION: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache policy gnome-mount gnome-mount: Installed: 0.8~svn20080225-0ubuntu4 Candidate: 0.8~svn20080225-0ubuntu4 Version table: *** 0.8~svn20080225-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status DESCRIPTION: If the user enters invalid Mount Options that prevents a device from automounting, there is no way for the user to correct the error without extensive knowledge of how the automount system works. HOW TO REPRODUCE: 1) After logging in, Attach a removable storage device to the system (via USP for example) 2) After the device mounts, locate the devices icon on the desktop. 3) Right click on the icon, Select Properties, and go to the Drive tab, and open the Settings disclosure triangle 4) Enter an illegal Mounting Option (for instance -r instead of ro) 5) close the dialog 6) disconnect the device... wait for the system to recognize the device is unplugged and remove the devices icon 7) reconnect the device RESULT: The user is present a dialog box indicating Cannot mount volume: Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume 'USB DRIVE' with only an OK button for user interaction. There is no way for the user to correct the invalid entry before or after the user presses ok. WORK AROUND: After much unsuccessful googling, I was finally able to eventually able to remedy this issue by: 1) interrogating ps to determine what program owned the Cannot mount volume dialog (identifying it as gnome-mount) 2) reading the gnome-mount man page to determine where gnome-mount stores its mount options ( /system/storage/drives/DEVICE_SPECIFICATION/mount_options within the gconf system) 3) using gconf-editor to edit the mount option to be the correct value ro. This does not strike me as anything an average user would consider the least bit obvious. SUGGESTED BEHAVIOR: I think the most obvious way to handle this is to make any device that fails to be mounted leave a mostly-disabled icon on the desktop as long as it's connected (probably with an indicator that it's disabled due to an error, such as the exclamation icon overlay that MicroSoft uses in their hardware manager*), so that the user can easily modify the devices properties and correct the error. NOTES: * This suggested icon idea relies on the desktop manager (nautilus?) supporting some system for icon overlays that I don't believe it currently does. Even without this gnome-mount could still display a disabled icon. ** Affects: gnome-mount (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- unable to fix bad mounting options without editing gconf manually https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231218 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No problem for me though, I don't mind and like to hack. Keep up the good work with the Ubuntu project, I play with many distros and all in all, you have one of the best. I would love to help with what I can, I have no programing knowledge, so writing code is out for me, but will do what I can. Thanks, Loren Olsson ** Affects: adept (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Needs Info -- adept: Failed to lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107778 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
