[Bug 1976307] Re: Stack smashing in gamatronic driver
Thanks for reporting this bug Claudio. As you might have expected I was not able to reproduce it locally. After checking the the core dump, we can see the crash happened when executing the sec_poll function in drivers/gamatronic.c file. I went through the upstream history of this file and I found some commits in the latest version (2.8.0) which might fix this issue for you. Since version 2.8.0 is not even in Debian yet, I prepared a "dirty" package (removed some docs and manpages) and put it in this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~lucaskanashiro/+archive/ubuntu/nut Could you please try to test it and see if it fixes this issue for you? If yes, we can try to dig into those upstream commits and then find what is needed to SRU to jammy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1976307 Title: Stack smashing in gamatronic driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nut/+bug/1976307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1707290] Re: Removing package leaves motd script in place, renders incorrect motd
We no longer ship the 99-esm file, so we shouldn't be affected by this issue anymore. Additionally, I have double checked the new update-motd scripts we deliver and I can confirm they will not break the system if the user just removes the packages, since we have a check that prevent invalid files from being read, for example, this is the output of our 88-esm-announce script: ``` #!/bin/sh stamp="/var/lib/ubuntu-advantage/messages/motd-esm-announce" [ ! -r "$stamp" ] || cat "$stamp" ``` Because of that, I am marking this bug as invalid for the current version of UA. ** Changed in: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1707290 Title: Removing package leaves motd script in place, renders incorrect motd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-advantage-script/+bug/1707290/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1975523] [NEW] [MIR] Promote to main in Jammy and Kinetic
Public bug reported: [Availability] ruby-webrick is already in Ubuntu universe since Jammy. It is an arch:all package and it builds fine in amd64, all tests pass successfully. Here its LP page: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ruby-webrick [Rationale] This ruby gem was embedded in the ruby interpreter until ruby 2.7. In ruby 3.0, it was removed from the interpreter source tree by upstream decision and packaged separetely. Many packages still rely on it, and it is a low maintanence package. The most important package depending on it is rubygems which is in main. Because that happens since Jammy we should promote ruby-webrick in Jammy and Kinetic. pcs is another package which its promotion to main is planned for this cycle and depends on it. [Security] Searching for ruby-webrick the following was found: * 26 CVEs (most of them are old issues) http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=webrick * No CVEs in the Ubuntu tracker (the package was introduced in Jammy only and most of issues are older than that): https://ubuntu.com/security/cves?package=ruby-webrick The package itself does not provide any binary. However, this is a library that allows one to set up your own HTTP server, so the script/software written using this library can open ports for instance, but I do not think this is a concern regarding the MIR process. [Quality assurance - function/usage] The package works well right after installation. The user needs to understand the library API and that is it. [Quality assurance - maintenance] ruby-webrick upstream maintainers do not seem so responsive in the few upstream bugs that are filed on Github: https://github.com/ruby/webrick/issues However, most of them do not seem to be critical. There is one OpenSSL 3 specific issue that might be impacting Ubuntu but no one found that yet to file a bug: https://github.com/ruby/webrick/issues/90 But it seems they are responsive when the problem is security related. Some of the maintainers are also ruby interpreter maintainers. There is no bug reported against Debian nor Ubuntu. [Quality assurance - testing] Upstream provides a comprehensive test suite which is executed during package build time. The same set of tests are executed using autopkgtest, this is triggered by ruby autodep8. This is an arch:all package and it has been building fine since it was introduced in Ubuntu: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ruby- webrick/1.7.0-3/+build/22464915 autopkgtest is passing in all supported architectures: https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/ruby-webrick [Quality assurance - packaging] The package contains a working debian/watch file. Nothing important reported by lintian, no overrides also. This is a straightforward packages, similar to most ruby gems we have packaged in the archive. [UI standards] This is a library, no need to translation, desktop files, or anything UI related. [Dependencies] The only two build dependencies it has is debhelper-compat and gem2deb, gem2deb is in universe but it is used to build most of ruby packages. No runtime dependency apart from regular ruby. [Standards compliance] This package correctly follows FHS and Debian Policy. [Maintenance/Owner] This package will be owned by the Server team since we already maintain the ruby stack. This package is well maintained in Debian, so this is low effort in Ubuntu since it is a sync. The Server team is not yet subscribed to the package, but will subscribe before promotion. [Background information] The Package description explains the package well. Thanks for taking the time to file this bug and trying to make Ubuntu better. From the attached logs: May 12 08:50:07 paradise sshd[59551]: /etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 125: Bad configuration option: Host May 12 08:50:07 paradise sshd[59551]: /etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 126: Bad configuration option: ForwardX11 May 12 08:50:07 paradise sshd[59551]: /etc/ssh/sshd_config: terminating, 2 bad configuration options Which tells us that this is a local configuration issue. The Host and ForwardX11 options are causing the issue, avoiding the service to start. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'. However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New". Thanks for taking the time to file this bug and trying to make Ubuntu better. I see you are using the option NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER in sql_mode, as you can see here [1] this is no more supported in MySQL 8 which is the version we have in Ubuntu 20.04. So to fix your issue you need to remove that option. Please review all your configuration to make sure it is supported in MySQL 8. Hi Eric, No, the problem here is that the FIPS message you are seeing: Reboot to FIPS kernel required Is not being properly removed by our tool. We will fix this in a subsequent release of UA. Not that this doesn't cause the lsb_release issue you mentioned at all. Additionally, the lsb_release command output is not related to ubuntu-advantage-tools at all. We have run the full ubuntu-advantage-tools integration test suite against the version in -proposed. The results are attached. All tests passed. [Bug 1969939] Re: puppet 5 package incompatible with ruby 3 / ubuntu 22.04
Thanks for the reply Hadmut. We should indeed try to fix the current version we have in Ubuntu while Debian maintainers sort out the update to a newer version. What you described is indeed one of the issue we have with version 5.5.22-4, in Jammy and Kinetic. I did some investigation in the upstream bug tracker and I found some fixes that we might want to backport to this version: * PUP-10537 (https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/PUP-10537) This is the upstream fix for the issue you mentioned. Checking the mentioned file I also found PUP-11082 which needs more careful consideration and it might be worth backporting it. [Bug 1874719] Re: [SRU] Use the hostname as the node name instead of hardcoded 'node1'
Thanks for taking a look at this proposed change Robie. The behavior we are trying to backport to Focal is already present in all supported releases, Focal is the only one that differs at the moment. What you said is indeed true, the default configuration file is not production ready to most of the use cases I believe. I tried to backport it to keep the same behavior across all the releases (the change is just commenting out a single line in the config file) but TBH I also do not think it will benefit many users already running Focal. It might benefit some users upgrading from Bionic to Focal since the behavior would be the same. It'd be great to see James' opinion about this. And after applying this change in Jammy I also needed to add some delta to some other packages fixing DEP-8 tests which were already expecting the hardcoded 'node1' default node name. The Debian maintainer is not willing to accept this change also, so the maintenance cost to keep this change is getting higher. Maybe we should reconsider how useful it is to keep this change as a Ubuntu delta for the future cycles. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874719 Title: [SRU] Use the hostname as the node name instead of hardcoded 'node1' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/charm-hacluster/+bug/1874719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1968067] Re: upgrade_lts_contract.py exception on impish and later
** Description changed: + [Impact] + When users are upgrading their machines, we run the upgrade_lts_contract script to ensure that the services that were unable will keep being enable in the new ubuntu release the users are upgraded too. + + Currently, if the user upgrades directly from Focal to Jammy, the script + will error out because we are missing the entries for Focal and Impish + on that script. + + Therefore, even though we might not have full support for some services + in Jammy yet, we should not error out on that script and allow it to + complete; + + + [Test Case] + To reproduce the bug: follow these steps: + + 1. Launch a jammy machine + 2. Attach to a valid UA token + 3. run `sudo python3 /usr/lib/ubuntu-advantage/upgrade_lts_contract.py` + + And to verify that the fix works: + + 1. Upgrade UA to version 27.8 + 2. re-run `sudo python3 /usr/lib/ubuntu-advantage/upgrade_lts_contract.py` and confirm no errors are raised + + + [Regression Potential] + We are just adding the new releases into our support dict and providing better error messages if that problem happens again in the future. Therefore, we don't believe we have a big regression issue here. + + [Original Description] + See this error https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/864d1a4d38167a7b009ce993125030b58eb012d5 When upgrading from focal -> impish or from impish -> jammy, a KeyError will occur in the upgrade_lts_contract.py script from ubuntu-advantage- tools. This happens because that script has not been kept up-to-date with new ubuntu series names since groovy. We plan to fix this bug in our next release of ubuntu-advantage-tools, which will be version 27.8 and should occur within the next month. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968067 Title: upgrade_lts_contract.py exception on impish and later To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-advantage-tools/+bug/1968067/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1969125] [NEW] [SRU] ubuntu-advantage-tools (27.7 -> 27.8) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Impish, Jammy
Public bug reported: [Impact] This release sports both bug-fixes and new features and we would like to make sure all of our supported customers have access to these improvements. The notable ones are: * add support for realtime kernel service on Jammy as a beta service * update code to use new contract overrides directive * Make FIPS an incompatible service for FIPS Updates * Unhold more FIPS packages when enabling FIPS * Unhold FIPS packages when enabling FIPS Updates See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs. [Test Case] The following development and SRU process was followed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuAdvantageToolsUpdates The ubuntu-advantage-tools team will be in charge of attaching the artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. ubuntu- advantage-tools team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this has happened. [Regression Potential] Since we using a new contracts directive to perform series and cloud specific overrides on the entitlements definitions, we could be parsing that information incorrectly, not respecting the overrides. We have an extensive number of tests to cover different scenarios for services enablement/disablement to verify is this is not happening, but it can still be a problem. We are also adding a new service that can only be enabled on Jammy. This service is incompatible with Livepatch, FIPS and FIPS Updates. If we have made any mistake on that implementation, we could have a gap where users will be able to enable it on other series or together with the incompatible services, but we do have tests that cover that. [Discussion] Most of the FIPS work on this release is aimed at allowing FIPS PRO machines to enable FIPS Updates if necessary. On those machines, the FIPS packages are installed and hold during the image creation. When UA runs auto-attach on the first boot, we enable FIPS and unhold those packages. However, we have identified that we were not unholding all of the FIPS packages anymore. [Bug 1960449] Re: Backport container stack in Jammy
Thanks for accepting the remaining packages into -proposed. I updated the description as you requested, I hope that's enough. I'll be verifying runc in impish-proposed and focal-proposed. ** Description changed: [Impact] In order to follow our policy on keeping the container stack (docker.io, containerd, and runc) up-to-date in our supported releases, let's backport the stack in Jammy to Impish, Focal, and Bionic. - It is also important because the new releases contain some CVE fixes. + It is also important because the new releases contain some CVE fixes. It + was discussed with the security team that once those packages land in + -updates they will perform no-changes uploads to the security pocket. + + golang-github-fsouza-go-dockerclient and golang-github-openshift- + imagebuilder in Focal also need to be built with Golang 1.16 instead of + the default one.
