[Bug 1734684] [NEW] initramfs doesnt include pcmci drivers if set as modules anymore

2017-11-27 Thread Lucien Murray-Pitts
Public bug reported:

Rebuilding a kernel with pcmcia modules drivers for networking, then
creating the a new initramfs results in missing pcmcia slot drivers as
they arent included by "most" in the config files

This can result in network not coming up properly, especially if casper
for livecd is involved.

Seems this has been a point of confusion for others during upgrades:

[Bug 1734678] [NEW] A courtesy "autogenerated by casper" should be added to /etc/network/interfaces to disambiguate scripts genesis

2017-11-27 Thread Lucien Murray-Pitts
Public bug reported:

Most autogenerated files mention at the top where they have been autogenerated
from.
The /etc/network/interfaces in a casper boot doesnt.

This could confuse the end user of a live cd, or the potential creator
of one trying to work out why interfaces arent being brought up.

Easy 1 line fix to add to the networking scripts

/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/casper-bottom/23networking:
  cat > "$IFFILE" <> # Autogenerated by casper script 23networking
  # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)

[Bug 1734677] [NEW] "lo" interface is added to /etc/network/interfaces by device search loop in casper-bottom/23networking

2017-11-27 Thread Lucien Murray-Pitts
Public bug reported:

The first "lo" interface is added by default to the /etc/network/interfaces.
However the second one is added by the for loop which searches through
  for device in /sys/class/net/*/device; do
...

Resulting in
  #
  auto lo
  iface lo inet loopback
  auto lo
  iface lo inet dhcp

The later uses of "ifquery" dont correctly ignore "lo" despite being
passed the switch to do so.

Which later results in a crash out of ifup (from /var/log/syslog)
dhclient[864]: Unsupported device type 772 for "lo"

The solution for this problem is easy to install as mentionned on linux-
rixensart site. It is written in french but easy to understand. You have
to install the theme Ambiance-Crunchy :

[Bug 654526] [NEW] Java double click timeout

2010-10-04 Thread Lucien
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu 10.10 and had the same problem on old versions.

The double click timeout set with the mouse preferences doesn't work
for all applications like these in Java (I firstly saw this problem in
NetBeans).

Since the timeout is to short it is not possible to do a double click
with the touchpad and we have to be fast with the mouse...

To modify this value I added the file Xresources as it is explained in this
blog:
http://jelmer.jteam.nl/2008/10/13/descrease-the-double-click-speed-for-java-applications-on-ubuntu-linux/

But why such a file isn't created directly by the mouse preferences?

Thanks in advance for your help.

[Bug 95886] Re: Wrong keyboard layout after installation (US instead of FI)

2010-10-01 Thread Lucien
I just discovered this interesting topic.
I am using Ubuntu. After using another keyboard (which I did several times
before without a problem) my own keybord switches to Netherlands (NL) setting
after every restart. I want to use 'USA international with dead keys'. The icon
to switch between the 2 does not react anymore. When I look in
System>Choises>Keyboard I see USA on top (with red lining) as active and NL
second as not active, but the keyboard works in NL! I can only swich to USA by
completely removing NL from System. But after a restart the keyboard works in
NL again and NL is back in Systems again (with on top USA as active!).
I am not a whizkid and I have tried everything, including other keyboards, but
no solution.
Lucien, Netherlands

[Bug 581019] [NEW] Rhythmbox MTP plugin crashes Rhythmbox at startup

2010-05-15 Thread Lucien
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

As long as I had the MTP plug-in activated I couldn't launch Rhytmbox. It is
why I deactivated it with the help of gconf.
Now I can launch Rhythmbox anew but if I try to reactivate the MTP plug-in,
Rhythmbox crashes immediately.

I use Ubuntu 10.04 Rhythmbox 0.12.8 (same version for the plug-ins).

Here are all the debug informations that I get when I click on activate
MTP plug-in in Rhythmbox.

Thanks in advance for your help

[Bug 281620] [NEW] evolution/keyring does not remember last character if it is a backslash

2008-10-11 Thread Lucien
Public bug reported:

I'm not absolutely sure that I need to report it here, but...

My password for an email account ends with a special character, in my
case a \ (backslash), when evolution tries to access the server to
receive new (pop) mail for the first time after boot, it shows the
password pop-up with the password as masked characters, on a 12
character password it shows only 11, after adding the backslash as the
12th character and pressing OK it will retrieve my email.

Re: [Bug 242840] Re: Impossible to change the character size

2008-07-03 Thread Lucien
Ok,
In fact this bug appear only in a multi fusionned cell.

So to reproduce the bug :

1)select 3 cells
2) fusion them
3) write "test" into
4) try to change the size of "test" to 14

[Bug 242840] [NEW] Impossible to change the character size

2008-06-24 Thread Lucien
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-calc

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron with Open Office 2.4.1 (with french
translation).

When I try to change the size of characters, they changes but only as
long as I keep the cell selected. When I select an other cell, the
characters recover their old size.

Thank you.

[Bug 235197] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 kernel cannot print to sitecom printserver

2008-06-18 Thread Lucien Demeuse
The update to 2.6.24-19-generic kernel changes something but the printer
doesn't work correctly./ Same problem as adonet.

Maybe this problem is linked with the bug "unable to resolve host (pc's name)"
when you use static addresses.
The first page is correctly printed only if you print one line but it is not
the case for a full page or if you restart a print operation.
I have 3 PC's in production using gutsy without any problem

The black squares are also there in other websites.

 See http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/beta

It would be good to know the previously reported bug number.

[Bug 193706] Re: kernel 2.6.24-8 not sound and wireless

Have a look to the comments I gave on bug 210298. Maybe you have also
missing modules.

[Bug 210298] Re: unable to configure wireless network

2008-04-03 Thread lucien
In Ubuntu 8.04 modules needed by the kernel could be missing.

See with the command "uname -r" the kernel used.
It could be for example "2.6.24-12-386" you get as answer.

Then go to the directory "cd /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-386" or putting
here the answer you got with "uname -r".

You should see ,using "ls" in this directory, the directory named
"ubuntu" in the output.

In this Ubuntu directory are directories called "sound" and "wireless",
having modules needed by the kernel.

Many users had sound problems, I had too, using another kernel for
example 2.6.24-12-generic could solve the problem if the
"/lib/modules/2.6.24-12-generic has the directory named "ubuntu".

I had the sound problem ,solved it, but a new update now brings me back
to the missing modules.

So the why of the missing modules, after an upgrade or update seems to
be the problem to be solved.

I hope somebody will do it.
