[Bug 244774] [NEW] no switchspell in "pidgin-plugin-pack"

2008-07-01 Thread M. Pauschel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin-plugin-pack

switchspell has simply been forgotten, most probably by somebody who only
speaks English ;)
For the rest of us it is essential!

Version in Hardy: 2.0.0.1

** Affects: purple-plugin-pack (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 128170] Re: No 1:1 dimensions on screen (WYSIWYG)

2008-03-09 Thread M. Pauschel
Use the word-processor you like, open a new file, set the page-size to
the one which matches with the sheets stashed in your printer, take one
leaf out and hold this real piece of paper (which is 21 cm wide in case
of DIN A4) at the one displayed on the screen. Both must be congruent.

My labtop's screen was even wrongly detected then, the correct values are:
$ xdpyinfo | grep -B1 dot /dimensions:1280x800 pixels (303x190
millimeters)/resolution:107x107 dots per inch -->
107dpi means, that 1 inch span contains 107 dots. I can take a ruler and 1" on
screen is exactly what my ruler measures as well.

I don't know if Kubuntu has fixed the bug, because I use another distro
meanwhile.

[Bug 128170] No 1:1 dimensions on screen (WYSIWYG)

2007-07-24 Thread M. Pauschel
Public bug reported:

My TFT:
$ xdpyinfo | grep -B1 dot
dimensions:1280x800 pixels (301x192 millimeters)
resolution:108x106 dots per inch

The 10pt screen fonts appear too small. I check on KWord: the DINA4-page
at 100% magnification appears too small as well

System Settings > Appearance > Fonts > "Force fonts Dpi" (which was
unchecked) is set to either 96 or 120. Apply. Uncheck again. Apply.

Restart KWord: the DINA4-page at 100% magnification matches exactly with
a real one Fonts have correct sizes.

All now started KDE-apps show correct dimensions. Exceptions are window-
bars, panel and Konq.

NB: This bug won't occur in SIDUX.

Speculation: the dimensional misfit amounts to 1:0.88 -- which lets
me assume that Kubuntu sets X to a default of 96 dpi instead of letting
X calculate the resolution itself.
