[Bug 1945097] [NEW] getent does not resolve host in .local while avahi does

2021-09-26 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1)Set up a shared printer.
2) On a computer in the same local network the printer is seen by cups as a
dnssd printer.
3) After setting up the printer as a dnssd printer cups cannot print since it
cannot locate the printer.

avahi -a -r and avahi-resolve-host-name are able to resolve the host with the
printer.
getent cannot resolve it and cups fails.

As suggested in
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/avahi-isnt-being-used-to-resolve-local-domain-names/4911/8
the issue is related to mdns4_minimal in /etc/nsswitch.conf and the absence of
/etc/mdns.allow

Bisect 3 bad [DIR] v3.13.11.11-trusty/ 11-Nov-2014 19:20

Is it worth doing fully commit bisecting since the "good" kernel is more or
less the next one?
BTW I believe the bug is connected with the power mangement.

I tried the latest upstream kernel as you suggested and until now the bug has
not shown up again.
The feeling is that the connection is a little more sluggish but it works.

[Bug 1304805] Re: KDE desktop login failure: "Could not start d-bus. Can you call qdbus?"

2014-09-01 Thread MagnusPI
Hi,

Just upgraded from kubuntu 1204 amd64 to 1404 and immediately got stuck in this
bug.
Removing the parenthesis as suggested above in #12 solved the login problem.

[Bug 1312857] Re: Not constructing a QApplication before a QPaintDevice leads to core dumo

Thanks for the quick answer.
But I would not expect the python interpreter to crash because of a wrong
command.
Exactly as I do not expect the shell to crash because a program core dumps.
Would you?
Please consider revising your decision.

[Bug 1312857] [NEW] Not constructing a QApplication before a QPaintDevice leads to core dumo

2014-04-25 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

I was playing with PyQt4.

1) Made a file named P2.py with
#!/usr/bin/python
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

import sys
from PyQt4 import QtGui

class P2(QtGui.QWidget):
def __init__(s):
super(P2,s).__init__()
#print " dir(P2):", dir(P2)
print "is initUI in dir()?", 'initUI' in dir()
s.initUI()

def initUI(s):
s.setGeometry(300, 300, 250, 150)
s.setWindowTitle('Icon')
s.setWindowIcon(QtGui.QIcon('web.png'))
s.show()

2) Started python interpreter

[Bug 1008395] Re: Shouldn't put entry in /etc/xdg/autostart

It tooks me hours to pin down the problem since I thought it was a bug in

As it stands psensor behaves like a malware and if you are an average user it
is very hard to find the solution.
Pls reconsider your decision or at least add some _clear_ notice.

[Bug 1310632] [NEW] when radeon module is inserted skype, drive manager and audio and video settings hang; vgaswitcheroo does not work

2014-04-21 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

If I start the system with radeon module blacklisted everything works
with the issue of having the discrete radeon card on and a higher cpu
temperature.

If I insert the radeon module many things hang.
In particular: if I start skype before I insert the module I cannot do calls
anymore. If I try to start skype after inserting the module it hangs at the
login.
The same is true for "drive manager" and "audio and video settings" from
systemsettings.

Moreover vgaswitcheroo is unable to switch on the discrete card.
More explictly, issuing
echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
the discrete card remains off.

[Bug 1099184] [NEW] avahi publishes IPv6/IPv4 and ipp backend in cups uses only IPv6

2013-01-13 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04
-
avahi-daemon 0.6.30-5ubuntu2
cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu6

Avahi for default publishes services also in IPv6 as in
/etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf there is
use-ipv6=yes

At the same time services are listening on IPv4 addresses only.

Cups is able to discover published printers via dnssd protocol but its
ipp backend prints only on the IPv6 resolved address which does not
answer and it does not try the IPv4 address.

[Bug 923270] [NEW] os-prober does not recognize other os on different hd

2012-01-29 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

/etc/grub.d/30_os-prober cannot detect the XP partition.

As the following info shows I have XP installed on sda while linux is on
sdb

 fdisk -l /dev/sda
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 63 134223074671115067 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

 fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 635957910729789522+ 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
/dev/sdb259580414 240121727902706575 Extended
/dev/sdb5 103462191 24012172768329768+ 83 Linux
/dev/sdb659580416 10154803120983808 83 Linux
/dev/sdb7 101550080 103458815 954368 82 Linux swap / Solaris

Partition table entries are not in disk order

The obvious workaround is to write an entry in 40_custom

[Bug 633596] Re: blank screen on bootup with HP Touchsmart tm2t laptop

2011-03-05 Thread MagnusPI
Two further ways on how to get around the problem:
1) you can use vesa driver in xorg.conf after blacklisting drm.ko and i915.ko
(and get a higher fps in glxgears)
2) you can add "i915.modeset=1 video=1280x800@60e" as kernel parameters so that
also the VGA1 connector is turned on and then you can switch it off in rc.local
for example.

[Bug 729068] [NEW] Screen almost always blank after boot

2011-03-04 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

It seems to be a bug in drm.ko or i915.ko kernel module.

I have blacklisted intel_ips because of symbols issues.
No problems with drm.ko and i915.ko blacklisted and driver vesa.

If I start without kernel parameters or with "i915.modeset=1
video=LVDS-1:1280x800@60e"
the screen is almost always blank and it requires opening and closing the lid a
certain number of times in order to get the screen back.

If I start the kernel with parameters "i915.modeset=1 video=1280x800@60e"
then the screen is not blank. I guess it is because also the VGA-1 adapter is
turned on even if there is not a vga screen connected. Then I have to manually
correct the screen resolution.

I have more or less the same problem with the latest kernel 2.6.35-25 but I
noticed that many times (not always) you can manually increase the screen
backlight with f3 and you get your screen login back.

As a workaround I executed as root

cd /usr/share/glade3/pixmaps
cp /usr/share/icons/hicolor/index.theme .
gtk-update-icon-cache -qf /usr/share/glade3/pixmaps/hicolor/

Not really sure why it worked but I found out looking at strace output.

[Bug 458654] Re: qdbus does not forward booleans in args correctly

2010-10-20 Thread MagnusPI
I have the same problem.
Moreover if you set "export QDBUS_DEBUG=1" before using qdbus you see that
whatever you write is interpreted as string.

I solved using dbus-send
I used

dbus-send --system --print-reply --type=method_call --dest=org.bluez
/org/bluez/1384/hci1 org.bluez.Adapter.SetProperty string:Powered
variant:boolean:true

instead of

qdbus --system org.bluez /org/bluez/1384/hci1
org.bluez.Adapter.SetProperty Powered true

[Bug 480695] [NEW] kdm (and gdm) does not start if /etc/X11/default-display-manager is not completely standard

2009-11-11 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and both kdm and gdm could not be started by init
neither automatically nor manually with
"start kdm".

The reason is that the script for upstart is too strict in checking.

My /etc/X11/default-display-manager was

#/usr/sbin/gdm
/usr/bin/kdm

and the script stanza in /etc/init/kdm (and /etc/init/gdm) contains

[ ! -f /etc/X11/default-display-manager -o "$(cat /etc/X11/default-
display-manager 2>/dev/null)" = "/usr/bin/kdm" ]

which fails writing an almost useless log in /var/log/syslog
Nov 10 10:24:20 to4ixl init: kdm main process (1135) terminated with status 1
Nov 10 10:24:20 to4ixl init: kdm main process ended, respawning
Nov 10 10:24:20 to4ixl init: gdm main process (1138) terminated with status 1
Nov 10 10:24:20 to4ixl init: gdm main process ended, respawning

I suggest changing the first line of the script stanza to

[ ! -f /etc/X11/default-display-manager -o "$( grep -E '^/usr/bin/kdm'
/etc/X11/default-display-manager 2>/dev/null)" = "/usr/bin/kdm" ]

[Bug 477337] [NEW] (iwlagn) cannot connect to [NONE]

2009-11-07 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and my wireless connection stopped working.

Disabling NetworkManager the connection works again.

My wifi connection is not protected but it filters MACs.

The problem is in the way NetworkManager uses wpa_supplicant.

I loaded iwlagn with debug=65535 and this is the output of
/var/log/syslog

Nov 6 20:42:49 Mobiligor4 kernel: [ 36.193582] wlan0: authenticate with AP
00:18:f8:xx:xx:xx

Nov 6 20:42:49 Mobiligor4 kernel: [ 36.197786] wlan0: associated
Nov 6 20:42:49 Mobiligor4 wpa_supplicant[741]: No network configuration found
for the current AP

local choice (reason=3)
Nov 6 20:42:49 Mobiligor4 wpa_supplicant[741]: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED -
Disconnect event - remove keys

I must add that I have a /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf with one network of
type WPA-PSK

It took some time to pin down the problem because
1) if the interface wlan0 was down and I configured the essid for wlan0
manually with iwconfig the essid was accepted (as it could be verified by
iwconfig) but the essid was lost as soon as I brought the interface up

2) if the interface wlan0 was up and I tried to configure its essid with
iwconfig wlan0 simply did not accept the essid and iwconfig showed no
essid assigned to wlan0.

[Bug 416941] [NEW] mplayer cannot find audiocodec 0x332D6361 while ffmeg can

2009-08-21 Thread MagnusPI
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

mplayer 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu19

I was trying to play a mp4 file with mplayer.

Mplayer recognizes both video and audio codes as
Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family
Selected video codec: [ffh264] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg H.264)

but then it cannot play audio with message
Forced audio codec: mad
Cannot find codec for audio format 0x332D6361.

>From DOCS/HTML/en/codecs.html it turns out that the codec is a ffmpeg
codec.

I tried to recode the mp4 file with ffmpeg with
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vcodec copy output.avi

It worked and the resulting file can be played with mplayer.

[Bug 366913] [NEW] kbluetooth4-devicemanager does not show devices already configured

Public bug reported:

[Bug 157958] Re: amarok still can't play mp3s after autoinstalling the codecs

2008-02-15 Thread MagnusPI
I installed all codecs and _also_ amarok-xine since it depends on it, but
neither mp3 nor streaming worked.
Then I installed xine and I could hear both mp3 and streaming.

It is then possible that this is a bug of amarok-xine which depends in
some way on xine.
