[Bug 1907887] Re: Old kernel files aren't completely autoremoved

2022-01-11 Thread Mahendra Tallur
As KDE Neon uses Ubuntu LTS, does it also affect regular Ubuntu installations ?
I would be surprised as the bug is extremely obvious after a few months.
What can we do to help fix it ?

Meanwhile, I use this command to mark old kernels as manually installed
so that they get remove with "apt-get autoremove" :

sudo apt-mark auto $(apt-mark showmanual | grep -E
"^linux-([[:alpha:]]+-)+[[:digit:].]+-[^-]+(|-.+)$")

[Bug 1907887] Re: Old kernel files aren't completely autoremoved

2021-08-09 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Hi ! An important side effect is that, after several months/years,
updates take an increasing amount time due to the presence of many
unused kernels.

Now that some distros (incl. Neon) use offline updates (applied after
rebooting), it gives the feeling the update stopped / crashed.

[Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work

2018-08-02 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Hi !

I have the same issue as I stated here :
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1061855/ubuntu-18-04-and-tracker-files-
properly-indexed-but-not-searchable-in-gs-naut

1. I installed tracker
2. I indexed all my data (as indicated on the command line by "tracker status"
/ "tracker daemon")
3. I checked whether everything was properly indexed by making some queries on
the command line based on the content of some text files : the command line
"tracker search" command did yield the right results
4. I made the same searches from Nautilus : they yielded no result : Nautilus
(and thus the shell) only seem to use the "mlocate" database and not the
tracker one.

Hypothesis : the fact Ubuntu makes use of Nautilus 3.26 while the rest
of the Gnome stack is 3.28 ?

Actually, did anyone manage to get Nautilus 3.26 (and thus Gnome Shell
with the nautilus search provider) from Ubuntu 18.04 to use the result
of the tracker indexing ? I checked all possible settings in dconf-
editor and found no relevant option.

Cheers :-)

[Bug 1574354] Re: playing .mp4 in VLC freezes machine

2017-12-20 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Hi everyone ! Considering the potentially very wide scope of a bug that
would freeze the X server, could you guys & gals give more details ?

- OS / ARCH
- GPU
- Proprietary or open source driver ?
- X or Wayland ?
- Any PPA ?
- How often the bug occurs ? Is it completely random ?
- Does it occur with specific videos ? Codecs ?
- Does it only occur when seeking into the video ?
- In the VLC preferences, what video mode chosen ?
- Does it freeze only VLC, the whole session or the whole server ? Can you kill
it from the console ?
- Do you have similar freezes / crashes in other apps ?

As for me : it occurs in Ubuntu 16.04 (KDE Neon actually). Nvidia GTX
1060 + proprietary driver. Bug is random and occurs when seeking a lot
into the video. It seems only to occur in VDPAU mode (hardware
decoding). I have no other crash at all in any video player or even
complex Steam game. I didn't double check with other VDPAU player.

This is potentially a massive bug (it occurred on secveral of my
machines and freezes the whole session)... Maybe it'll just "disappear"
when switching to VLC 3 or Wayland...

[Bug 1574354] Re: playing .mp4 in VLC freezes machine

2017-11-18 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Hi ! I encounter this issue too (complete X freeze sometimes when seeking too
much in videos in VLC).
I thought that was related to using Nvidia VDPAU. I saw this behaviour on 2
very different machines.

Using KDE Neon based on Ubuntu 16.04. Tried latest NVIDIA drivers & VLC
PPA. This PPA is quite outdated, though. But as this is a complete X
freeze (sometimes I cannot even switch to the console) it seems quite
low-level.

[Bug 734908] Re: Unity is visible on top of fullscreen apps

2012-11-30 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Hi ! It seems the bug is partly fixed.

In my case : Ubuntu 12.10, Nvidia proprietary drivers, up to date, when
I open a fullscreen app on the second monitor, Unity dock top bar do
disappear, but they re-appear as soon as I click on something on the
primary monitor.

I partly worked around it by setting the dock to only appear on the
primary monitor but the top bar is still here.

2012-11-30 Thread Mahendra Tallur
BTW, I noticed the top bar only appears when there's another app open on
the main screen, otherwise it's properly hidden on the second one.

Actually, It seems there are all kinds of issues with dual-screen. For
instance : the height of windows opened on the main screen corresponds
to the max height of the secondary one ; an app like VLC will remember
on what screen it was started last, instead of opening on the current
screen etc...

[Bug 758613] Re: In Firefox and LibreOffice sometimes the global menu does not appear.

2011-09-05 Thread Mahendra Tallur
I figured out the issue is 100% reproducible if you open an .odt which
contains some java macros and if your security level is not set at the
minimum :

in this case, a popup window appears asking whether you want to use the
macros (or to warn you that macros are disabled) and consequently, the
global menu is not visible (if the window is set to fullscreen, you
can't even quit from fullscreen !)

If macros are disabled, the issue doesn't occur. (so I set a whitelist
not to be bothered)

2011-07-24 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Hmm, I was about to ask why don't you just update libva1 from the X

as well and the 175.x nvidia driver from the PPA has some issues (at
least in my case, it makes fullscreen apps slower under KDE 4.6.x, GF
9800 GTX).

... issues that were not triggered under Arch Linux, but it's probably
because it needs some other newer components.

So, well, one has to make a choice :)

[Bug 772236] [NEW] Totem hangs when seeking within flac files (gstreamer)

2011-04-28 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

This issue occurs with Totem but also with any gstreamer-based player
(Banshee, Amarok with Phonon-gstreamer), in Natty and not in Maverick.
(they also occur in other distros such as Archlinux)

HOW TO REPRODUCE :
- play flac files
- seek a couple of time inside the files
- after 2-3 tries, the music stops and the GUI freezes

It occurs with many .flac files (made with Banshee), but not all of
them. If necessary, I can provide a sample .flac file (but it shouldn't
be necessary as it occurs with most of them).

[Bug 210472] Re: Timidity daemon doesn't play nice with pulse audio

2011-04-03 Thread Mahendra Tallur
In the PulseAudio wiki, they suggest to switch timidity output mode to libao
cf. http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/PerfectSetup#TiMidity

However, libao output is not built in the Ubuntu executable.

As of Ubuntu Maverick, I worked around this by starting timidity during
the GNOME startup. It seems there is no more timidity maintainer since
2004 :(

What is strange is that, nowadays, when using PA with a dmix capable
sound board, there is usually no problem at all mixing PA alsa apps. I
don't understand why, in some cases, the alsa app seems to lock the
audio device. (the same occurs when using the oss-alsa wrapper).

[Bug 305546] Re: Nautilus crashing/freezing when opening folder with svg file

2011-03-08 Thread Mahendra Tallur
I also experience this issue (Ubuntu 10.10, up to date, amd64) when
opening a directory containing a svg file embedding many big jpeg
pictures. (no tiff at all)

Actually, it occurs with 2 similar svg files. The 1st one does embed all
jpeg files and the preview doesn't even have the time to be generated.
The second one only contains links to the jpeg pictures, so a blank
preview is generated.

However, *In both cases*, Nautilus eventually quits responding and I
have to kill it. In the first case, during the preview calculation, in
the second case, shortly after selecting the svg file.

- The issue occurs with *any* document
- It occurs even with the latest LibreOffice and Ubuntu versions
- It is pretty simple : if an openoffice document is displayed before turning
the computer into sleep mode, openoffice will be extremely slow (especially
scrolling) after waking up the computer. It won't affect documents opened
afterwards.

It occurs when Compiz is enabled. I could only test it with Nvidia
hardware. (with the proprietary drivers) No other app is affected.

Indeed, the bug still occurs with LibreOffice 3.3.1 (Ubuntu 10.10,
nvidia proprietary drivers).

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2011-01-20 Thread Mahendra Tallur
It may be a factor, but as I said earlier (what, you didn't reread the
355 comments ? ;-) I managed to reproduce the issue (especially in the
bottom panel, next to the show desktop applet) from a clean user
profile, with the default set of applets.

What was particularly striking was the fact that re-creating afterwards
exactly the same set of applets made the issue more difficult to occur.
From the default set, I could force it to happen by killing the
panel from the terminal a couple of times.

Omer Akram : sadly, the upstream report didn't yield any result as the

one, as I can reproduce it easily personally, and I know at least one
other person who encounters it once in a while

Shunsuke Akagi : can you add some more data to the upstream report I
made on the Gnome bugtracker ? Maybe it could help the triager / GNOME
developers understand / reproduce it.

Shunsuke Akagi : thanks for your reply !

Actually, you have to switch to TTY0 :

- type ctrl + left-alt + F1
- log in as the user who logged in under X
- ps aux | grep nautilus then kill -9 [nautilus process]

It works from a default Ubuntu installation unless you disabled the TTY

2010-12-22 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Myriam : meanwhile, I triple checked everything and am very surprised
you don't encounter this issue. Here are some more tests I made :

[1] When using
- Ubuntu 10.10 liveCD (amd64)
- Ubuntu 11.04 alpha liveCD (i386)

By default : when archiving for instance, a file called exposé.txt to
a exposé.zip file using zip or file-roller and opening it again using
unzip -t or file-roller -- é is displayed as ??. The actual file is
extracted properly from the command line although unzip says
extracting: expos??.txt, it does create exposé.txt.

After installing p7zip-full : everything works properly from both zip
and file-roller. As if they were making use of p7zip.

[2] When using
- Kubuntu 10.10 full up to date install with kubuntu-ppa (i386)
- Kubuntu 10.10 LiveCD in English mode (amd64)
- Kubuntu 10.10 LiveCD in French mode (i386 amd64)

By default : when archiving exposé.txt to exposé.zip with Ark or zip
and opening it back with Ark or Zip, I get expos??.txt instead of
exposé.txt in the file listing. I can still unzip it from the command
line and get the right file, as in [1]. Ark doesn't manage to extract
it.

After installing p7zip-full : no difference, it still doesn't work.

Please see the attached zip file made in Kubuntu. Here the included file
is listed as expos??.txt.

Cheers !

2010-12-21 Thread Mahendra Tallur
OKAY. I figured out that :

- Under Ubuntu, with both File-Roller zip from the command line, in both
10.10 and 11.04 alpha : accents are replaced by ??
- HOWEVER, after installing p7zip-full, filenames are encoded properly, EVEN
WHEN JUST calling zip from the command line

So it seems zip makes use of 7zip-full when available.

- NONETHELESS... The behaviour doesn't apply under Kubuntu. Even after
installing p7zip-full and invoking zip from the command line, I still
get ?? instead of accents.

[Bug 692651] [NEW] Ark : when creating a zip f ile Ark doesn't encode accents properly (i.e. é è etc.)

2010-12-20 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdeutils

Hi ! This bug occurs with a clean Kubuntu 10.10 install.

How to reproduce :

1) create a file or a drawer whose filename contains special characters with
accents, such as é è ê etc (French accents in this case).
2) with Dolphin, right click on it and create a zip file
3) open the zip file with ark or from the command line
4) what happens : each special character is replaced by two question marks ??
what should happen : the filenames should be the same as the source file /
drawer

Please note :
1) this occurs when creating zip files, but not when creating rar files or
tar.gz files
2) the fact that a single char is replaced by 2 question marks seems to
indicate that the filename was encoded in UTF-8 but that the zip file was not
specified as being in UTF-8

Please tell me if I can help ! (some other people on the French Ubuntu forums
confirmed the issue)
Cheers !

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-12-18 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Joaquin : this is a serious upstream bug that will continue to affect
other distros that don't use Gnome Shell, that will continue to affect
users who want to keep the old interface, and that will continue to
affect users of the LTS.

I really don't see why it wouldn't be fixable ? Now it even seems we
have some ways to reproduce it almost each time. Well, if anyone can
confirm that, when invoking killall gnome-panel from the guest
account (or unmodified out of the box configuration), it corrupts the
show desktop icon practically each time. Can people check that ?

Now I'll shut up until I really have some actual new pieces of
information :)

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-12-17 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Lonnie : I agree... In July I kind of said please guys, let's stop
complaining / commenting if no new relevant piece of information is
added... But... This bug has been here for so long it's getting
ridiculous (no offense to anyone involved, but this report was created
in sept 2009 and almost everyone gets this bug).

It occurs almost every day on my setup and I saw it occur on every setup
I installed Ubuntu. (provided Compiz was enabled)

I'm definitely not the kind to complain at all, but this is making me
lose faith in the development process :) It seems the GNOME devs don't
use Ubuntu so don't reproduce it and don't care (as it seems related to
the Human / Murrine GTK Engine) / or are too busy with GNOME shell / or
the Ubuntu devs are too busy with UNITY and think anyway in 11.04 the
old UI will be ditched.

But well, the bug will still be in the LTS for one more year (!). And
many people will prefer to keep the old Gnome panels interface.

Well I don't know what to say. Should we set up a bounty ? Or a petition
? I get phone calls of my friends telling me they cannot shut down the
computer or access the applets... Gees !

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-12-17 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Joaquin : TOMA ? Googled it, didn't find :)

All : hmm, I'm not sure this is relevant but this seems interesting.
Usually I only keep a top panel and corruption appears in the indicators
area and disappears with a killall gnome-panel. I recently started my
/home from scratch and kept everything as conservative out of the
box as possible.

I noticed that : corruption appears here more frequently in the bottom
panel (show desktop applet) (and once in a while in the top panel near
the canonical indicators). So this seems unrelated to the indicators.
More importantly, when calling killall gnome-panel corruption doesn't
disappear systematically. It actually makes it happen about 50% of the
cases !

In other word : starting from an out of the box' Ubuntu install with
Compiz, corruption may be triggered when calling a couple of times
killall gnome-panel and can thus be reproduced very easily. Also, it
is thus 1) not related to the indicators 2) not related to the GNOME
startup itself as it can be reproduced afterwards

We may add 3) seems to be related to themes that use the Murrine GTK
engine ? 4) is definitely triggered when Compiz is enabled.

I'm making assumptions and definitely didn't re-read the hundreds of
comments of this bugreport. Do you think guys we could/should set up a
wiki page or a poll or another statistical tool to have a better
consciousness / visibility of the different factors at play ?

(also : noone interested by a bounty ?)

2010-12-17 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Sorry for polluting this thread even more but : some core GNOME
developers do read the upstream bugreport here :
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596923

Can we agree on a set of facts that we could forward to them ? For
instance, V. Untz is aware that the bug is not triggered by the
indicators as corruption can happen even if all of them are removed.
Also, he seems to take seriously the fact that it would be related to
the Murrine GTK engine.

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-12-17 Thread Mahendra Tallur
One more thing that I find interesting :

- earlier I said I could trigger some corruption in the bottom panel, near the
show desktop applet, by invoking killall gnome-panel a couple of times :
this is true
- HOWEVER, I moved the applets and put them back EXACTLY the way they were
before and noticed the corruption didn't happen anymore when calling killall
gnome-panel.
- I thought wtf ? so I started a guest session. The panel looks exactly the
same. And now, calling killall gnome-panel does indeed trigger the very same
corruption in more than 50% of the cases.

But what can be the differences between 2 bottom panels that contain
exactly the same applets at the same location, one of which does trigger
the bug easily...

[Bug 690116] [NEW] Printing documents with pictures takes minutes or fails with Samsung ML-2250 printer

2010-12-14 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

Hi everyone !

Well, I've had this issue for several Ubuntu releases. I have no idea if
it used to work before.

By default, my Samsung ML-2250 (laser) printer automagically uses the
following driver : Samsung ML-2250 Foomatic/pxlmono (recommended). It
works very well with text documents or even the printer test page.

However, when trying to print PDFs or JPGs, with any app, that contain
pictures, the printer usually seems to receive data for whole minutes.
(blinking LED) then it either times out or prints the page properly.

** What happens : after several minutes, the printing task times out or print
the documents depending on its size etc. **
** What should happen : after waiting a couple of seconds it should print the
document properly **

I figured out I could force the printing system to use a different
driver, such as CUPS + Gutenprint v5.2.6. The problem is that, even if
it does fix the timeout issue, the quality is definitely much much worse
(bad grayscales / much fewer DPI).

Please tell me if I can help fix this problem (and where I may send an

[Bug 660222] Re: Totem freeze when click and drag a folder or folders

2010-12-14 Thread Mahendra Tallur
I was about to report this. This is a REALLY tricky bug but I now manage
to reproduce it within 30 seconds...

1) open totem
2) play a music file (please use the (public domain) Amiga .mod files I will
attach below, for some reason, I manage to reproduce the problem more easily
with those -- but it also occurs with mp3s)
3) now drag a 2nd music file above the totem window. DO NOT DROP YET ! Just
move the mouse cursor very quickly BETWEEN THE VISUALIZATION (goom enabled) AND
PLAYLIST panes. Do it for about 15 seconds
4) the file icon may disappear after a few seconds. If it doesn't : play the
2nd file and drag the 1st file ( goto 2 until the problem occurs)
5) once the dragged icon has disappeared : the GUI is completely locked.
Actually not completely :
- the music is still beiing played
- you can still move the mouse cursor but its state is frozen (it can be a
move add or normal cursor)
- sometimes you can still scroll within the playlist -- as if the mouse cursor
was locked inside the playlist
- nothing else responds and you have to kill the X server !

This is a really weird bug but I managed to trigger it about 15 times in
half an hour. Please try with the mod music files below. I also attach
a gdb backtrace (with the totem symbols installed but maybe more are
required ?) -- I started gdb until the text console and exported the
display for totem.

Please note : I am using the nvidia proprietary drivers. I triggered the
bug with both compiz enabled AND disabled.

[Bug 689599] [NEW] Cheese hangs when recording a video

2010-12-13 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cheese

Here's an issue I can reproduce every time, using Ubuntu Maverick AMD64, with
no ppa and no proposed update.
Logitech C300 USB webcam (uvc)

1) launch Cheese
2) the webcam is detected / initialized properly : one can see the video
preview and take pictures etc with no problem at all
3) when starting an actual recording : the picture is frozen but the GUI still
seems to answer
4) when stopping the recording : cheese is completely frozen : I have to kill it
5) when restarting it, Cheese works as before (preview etc.) I can see one
video file was added to the list below the picture but the file is empty.

What occurs : no preview WHILE recording, GUI hangs when stopping recording,
video file empty
What should occur : preview while recording, proper video file, etc.

Cheers !

[Bug 689599] Re: Cheese hangs when recording a video

2010-12-13 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Here is an important additional piece of information :

it turned out that :

- when choosing in the PulseAudio mixer the Logitech Webcam as audio input
source (instead of the internal line-in), Cheese doesn't hang anymore
- HOWEVER : the first video is recorded properly but if I record 2 videos in a
row, the GUI doesn't hang but the subsequent video fils are empty. I have to
quit / relaunch Cheese.

So it seems there are 2 distinct bugs here :

[Bug 684343] [NEW] Totem hangs randomly when playing several mp3 with covers in a row

2010-12-02 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Hi !

Here's an issue I can easily reproduce + I attached a stack trace.

I have to :
1) open totem
2) open a couple of mp3s : in my case : the Machinarium soundtrack, in mp3s,
with a cover.jpg file that is displayed while playing
3) play some tracks : I have to change the track from 5 to 50 files before the
problem actually occurs.
4) it doesn't crash but the GUI hangs. Also, sound is played but the cover is
not displayed when it happens (black area instead).
-- only solution is to kill the task
-- the attached stack trace was after loading about 50 mp3 files ; the totem
GUI hanged when trying to play 09 The Black Cap Brothergood Theme.mp3 but
that is random. During my previous tests without gdb, the crash occured much
more quickly.

What should happen : play the file / display the cover
What happens : GUI freezes / cover not displayed / but it still plays the mp3
file

Cheers !

[Bug 680128] [NEW] UbuntuOne client keeps uploading the same file infinitely due to timeouts

2010-11-22 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Private bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Hi !

Here is an issue I can reproduce everytime :

1) in my waiting-content queue, the first file is a 350 MB .avi file
2) when starting the UbuntuOne sync daemon, it uploads at about 90KB/second
(the bandwidth limit is not respected)
3) I kept the client running for entire days and noticed not even a single file
had been uploaded.
For instance, during a night, the system monitor witnessed an upload of about
3.5 GB, but my waiting-content queue had still the same number of entries :
the 350 MB file had been uploaded the equivalent of 10 times its size but a
timeout probably occured each time.

I attached below a debug log of the U1 sync daemon produced when leaving
the computer on for an entire day, the aforementioned avi file still
being at the top of the queue.

Cheers thanks to the team !

[Bug 666942] Re: UbuntuOne client stuck infinitely when processing the metadata of a moved directory

2010-11-18 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Okay, thank you sorry for this off-topic. Please tell me if opening a
distinct bug report would be useful. BTW, the connection I use uploads
at about 100KBytes/second (which I thought was OK a few hundreds of
MBytes). What is the timeout value, actually ? (throttling doesn't work
either, so the fact the connection is stiffled might explain partly the
problem ?)

John : this solved the issue for me, thanks !

I'll open another bug report though : sync did occur, but even though
the sync daemon sent about 3.5 GB during the night, the waiting-content
| wc -l still returns the same number. The first entry is a 350 MB avi
file. which means it uploaded the equivalent of 10 times the file but
always aborted before the end for some reason.

Thanks for the effort !

[Bug 666942] [NEW] UbuntuOne client stuck infinitely when processing the metadata of a moved directory

2010-10-26 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Private bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

(bugreport made after mentioning this problem on IRC)

Main issue : when starting the UbuntuOne client, u1sdtool --waiting-
metadata | wc -l always ends up returning 1 even if I wait for hours
/ days. The entry corresponds to a drawer that I renamed from Corse to
000 - Corse. Sync doesn't occur anymore since then. (4 GB out of
about 20 that ought to be synchronized)

More details : everytime I start the U1 client, I first have to wait for
about 2 minutes during which my HD spins a lot and makes my system very
unresponsive *even if* no file was modified in the synchronized
directories. Then it stops and I have to manually connect to U1 -- CPU
usage is raised to 100% for a little while, then metadata are processed
(which takes a long time, several minutes per entry) and in the end,
only one entry remains, forever :

u1sdtool --waiting-metadata
 Move(share_id='b956c856-b908-4023-84f9-92bd0f901fdc',
node_id='518795a9-7711-45e6-ac01-dc2eabbb976f', path='/home/mahen/Images/000 -
Corse', new_name='000 - Corse',
new_parent_id='c3fc5e25-a5c3-4bd7-b52b-31051e57f920',
old_parent_id='c3fc5e25-a5c3-4bd7-b52b-31051e57f920')

May I also mention that even before renaming this drawer, at each U1
start I had to wait for several minutes during which the drive was
spinning, then for several minutes during which CPU usage was at 100% ?

Cheers !

[Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws

2010-10-19 Thread Mahendra Tallur
I'm not sure my comment will be relevant, but I've just noticed some
tearing *at the top of the screen only* (that's barely noticeable -- in
openGL 2D games like SMC for instance), when using nvidia proprietary
drivers + compiz.

Please note I'm doing the following which usually gives a flawless output but
not now as of Ubuntu 10.10 :
- Option DynamicTwinView false in /etc/Xorg.conf so that the right refresh
rate is given by the driver (I hope nvidia will fix it one day, so that it's
not necessary anymore)
- nvidia-settings : I tick sync to VBL everywhere
- CCSM : I tick : autodetect vsync + sync to VBL

This bug was definitely not there *before* Lucid. Was probably there in
Lucid though. It's very noticeable in SMC or Steelstorm for instance but
not much in regular 3D apps with no 2D scrolling.

Cheers !

[Bug 662346] [NEW] Faulty PDF print preview with specific pdf file (provided)

2010-10-17 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Hi !

Here's an issue I encounter with a very specific PDF file (attached)
under 10.10. A friend reproduced the issue on his setup as well. It's is
100% reproducible.

1) open the provided PDF file with evince : it is displayed properly on the
screen
2) open the print dialog - then print preview (or print it on actual paper)
-- the document will look completely trashed (I'll attach the screenshot
below as well)

Maybe this bug should be filed against libpoppler, I don't really know what
component is at fault here.
Thanks for listening ! :-)

[Bug 655977] [NEW] Vertical position of chat windows not remembered properly

2010-10-06 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Hi !

This bug is 100% reproducible here, with without Compiz. Maverick RC.

The *vertical* coordinate of chat windows are remembered. HOWEVER, when
I put them at the very bottom of the screen, close re-open them, they
are always displayed a little higher, as if the extreme vertical value
was set incorrectly. If I close them a second time re-open them, the
position remains the same as before (that is to say, about 1/10 of the
screen above the bottom)

I'm using a 1920x1080 screen resolution.

Cheers !

[Bug 655977] Re: Vertical position of chat windows not remembered properly

2010-10-06 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Well, I think my former post replied to them but I'll elaborate.

* Is this reproducible?
Yes each time.

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
1) open a chat window
2) move it to the very bottom of the screen
3) close the chat window
4) re-open the chat window
-- its vertical position is moved about 1/10 of the screen height toward the
top

2010-10-06 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Ah, I figured out the issue didn't occur after removing the
~/.config/Empathy/geometry.ini file.

Apparently, to trigger it, you need to reduce the vertical size of the
chat window (once) and then try to reproduce the steps above.

I'm sorry, I should have tested this before.

2010-10-06 Thread Mahendra Tallur
So to sum up the issue :

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
1) open a chat window
2) reduce its height (only has to be done the first time)
3) move it to the very bottom of the screen
4) close the chat window
5) re-open the chat window
-- its vertical position is moved about 1/10 of the screen height toward the
top

If the window height is raised, the issue doesn't occur !

[Bug 655789] [NEW] Driver spinning during 35 seconds at each U1 startup even though files already synchronized

2010-10-06 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Hi !

Here's an issue I've always experienced with U1, as far as I remember.

ATM I share about 1600 files (1 GB), my setup is a 1 year old desktop
computer, so it's probably unrelated.

The issue is the following : at *each* ubuntuone startup (I launch it
manually now, because otherwise it makes my system start too slow), the
drive spins intensively during about 35 seconds although not even a
single file changed among the synchronized folders. A top gives my
some u1 prefetch and sync processes.

[Bug 652019] [NEW] A published file in not accessible anymore when updated

2010-09-30 Thread Mahendra Tallur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Hi !

Here's an issue that occurs with the current Maverick RC.

Short form : A published file in not accessible anymore when updated

How to reproduce :

1) synchronize any drawer
2) inside this drawer, publish a file
3) open the URL into a browser in order to check it's been published properly
(should be OK)
4) modify the file (example : add a line to the text file)
5) try to open the URL again : it's not available anymore

I wonder whether this behaviour is a bug or on purpose ? This is
annoying, because sometimes, for instance, you may want to publish a
listing, or a work-in-progress with people.

Stefan : thanks for your help. I wish I could test those backports

Okay, it actually seems I do not need those because they are already
