[Bug 370818] Re: Unable to select scan area in preview window

2010-05-13 Thread Marc Quinton
then for this patch, it works fine for me on Ubuntu Lucid.

Here is instructions to build it on Lucid. Build process should be the
same on any version of Debian and Ubuntu, except package version number.

# get header to build xsane package
sudo apt-get build-dep xsane

# create a working directory
mkdir -p $HOME/tmp/xsane cd $HOME/tmp/xsane

# get xsane sources
apt-get source xsane

# get Aisano xsane patch
wget 'http://launchpadlibrarian.net/48345142/xsane-preview.c.patch'

# apply patch
patch xsane-0.996/src/xsane-preview.c xsane-preview.c.patch

# build xsane as a package
(cd xsane-0.996/ dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b)

# remove existing installed package
sudo dpkg -r xsane xsane-common

# install new built package
cd $HOME/tmp/xsane sudo dpkg -i xsane_0.996-2ubuntu1.1_i386.deb
xsane-common_0.996-2ubuntu1.1_all.deb

# restore ubuntu package if needed (if this one does not work).
sudo dpkg -r xsane xsane-common
sudo apt-get install xsane xsane-common

[Bug 153003] Re: inode_permission error for cupsd on /dev/tty

2008-03-07 Thread Marc Quinton
an interresting link : http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/710

Printing with AppArmor

Ubuntu 7.10 introduces an additional security layer called AppArmor,
whose support for CUPS printing is not yet complete. This will result in
printing failures in certain corner cases described below. The
workaround in each of these cases is to disable the AppArmor CUPS
profile by running sudo aa-complain cupsd. AppArmor support may be re-
enabled by running sudo aa-enforce cupsd.

* Printing to bluetooth printers does not work with AppArmor enabled. Bug
#147800 : https://launchpad.net/bugs/147800
* Many third-party printer drivers (especially from printer manufacturers)
do not work. Bug #152537 : https://launchpad.net/bugs/152537

seems to be duplicate with theses bugs ...

2008-03-06 Thread Marc Quinton
I need give some more information : after ghostscript reinstallation, I still
have the bug ; so now, I have found an other way to do the work :
 - switch off printer
 - shutdown cups : sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys stop
 - shutdown armor : sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor stop
 - restart cups : sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys start
 - switch on your printer
 - do some printing task

here is the dmesg (seems to be OK) :

[Bug 188553] Re: kino exit when cutting some part of video with gutsy and nvidia

2008-02-03 Thread Marc Quinton
in fact, this is more probably a gnome or gtk problem. If run kino in a
new linux account, I have not problem ; if I use my heavy loaded account
with many user-settings from gnome and gtk, I have the problem. I can
create the problem with this operation too : changing display in time-
code, frames, second ... when doing that, this produce a refresh in left
side bar (a special gtk_treeview), and an internal assert close kino
application.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: kino

[Bug 151327] Re: [Gutsy] binary graphics drivers don't load with linux-image-2.6.22-14-xen

2008-01-08 Thread Marc Quinton
to avoid this problem, don't use restricted card driver : go to System /
Admin / Restricted drivers and suppress non open-source driver. In other
word, avoid gglrx and nvidia in /etc/X11/xorg.conf ; prefer nv and ati.
