[Bug 380419] Re: OOo writer opens html files in Konqueror

2009-07-13 Thread Marco Costantini
If (on kubuntu) konqueror is installed and firefox not, then it is OK to use
kubuntu, and would be a bug trying to use the not installed firefox (see also
bug #391823).
Furthermore, if both konqueror and firefox are installed, and the user prefers
to use konqueror, then konqueror should be used. There should be a way for the
user to specify the preferred browser.

[Bug 89160] Re: Cannot connect to router/server/proxy with bad TCP Wscale implementation

2009-07-08 Thread Marco Costantini
Still present in karmik alpha 2 live cd.
As said above, the problem is not in Linux/Ubuntu, but in some routers. However
for a novice, this is a big problem, difficult to understand, and is perceived
as a Linux/Ubuntu bug. A workaround would be very useful.

[Bug 397201] [NEW] -floop-optimize2 instead of -floop-optimize

2009-07-08 Thread Marco Costantini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acovea

in file /usr/share/libacovea/config/gcc40_opteron.acovea and in some other
files in the same directory there is the line:

the 2 at the line end must be removed, because the gcc compiler option is
-floop-optimize without the ending 2.

By the way, does this program work?

[Bug 394203] Re: Karmic do not start graphical interface after upgrade

[Bug 77825] Re: driver for OTI 006858 USB-to-serial IC has errors

2009-06-22 Thread Marco Costantini
With the kernel 2.6.28 and everything else as in my previous comment,
all the programs (wammu, xgnokii, kppp, minicom, kmobiletools, scmxx)
trying to access /dev/ttyUSB0 report timeout.

The various dmesg messages, such as
[ 6264.856587] oti6858_read_int_callback(port = 0, status = 0)
reported with previous kernels are no more present: the dmesg message are only
when inserting the cable, as in my previous comment.

[Bug 103933] Re: Java install via Add/Remove crashed

2009-06-17 Thread Marco Costantini
Even if a fix has been released, this bug is still present in 8.04 hardy
kubuntu live after
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre-headless
and can confuse the unaware user. As 8.04 is long term support, the bug shoud
be fixed also in this release.

ln -s / /cow

[Bug 388721] [NEW] why in the multiverse repository?

2009-06-17 Thread Marco Costantini
Public bug reported:

Why is freemind in the multiverse repository?
(according to
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=freemindsearchon=names this happens
in each release from hardy to karmic)

My guess is that initially freemind depended on the non-free Sun Java,
and hence was put in multiverse. However, now the free OpenJDK Java is
available, and probably freemind can be moved to universe repository.

There are probably also other packages that depends on Java and are in
the multiverse repository even if now these packages should belong to
the universe repository.

[Bug 332499] [NEW] EciAdsl should be still included in Ubuntu

2009-02-21 Thread Marco Costantini
Public bug reported:

The package eciadsl seems to be included in Ubuntu until to gutsy; however this
package is still useful for several modems, hence I think it should be included
again
Furthermore, the internet connection should be made as easy as possible by
making each program available, because if the connection doesn't work, it is
difficult to find information and software to make it working.

[Bug 325524] [NEW] doesn't support tabs instead of spaces

2009-02-04 Thread Marco Costantini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: 2vcard

When converting from mutt addressbook to vCard file, if in the mutt
addressbook the fields are separated by tabs instead of whitespaces,
then the line is not converted, and the error message Skipping ill-
formatted line: is issued.

For example, in the attached file in mutt format, the first line is with
tabs and is not converted, the second line is with whitespaces and is
correctly converted.

This bug may affect also other input formats, and not only mutt (but I
don't know those formats).

About this, see also Do not allow the distinction between tab and
whitespace to be significant in Unix Textual File Format Conventions
at http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/taoup/html/ch05s02.html#id2907428

I'm going to write also to the original author of this program.

###

In an other bug of this package, they ask whether to keep or remove this
package in Ubuntu. Most of the users may need this package at most once,
in case that they switch from a mail client to another, however, that
single time this package may be very useful. vCard is also used by
Kontact and Yahoo mail, hence i vote to keep this program.

2007-12-28 Thread Marco Costantini
This problem also happens on a x86_64 Linux, running qemu emulating a x86_64
processor:
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -monitor stdio -boot d -m 512 -cdrom
'/path/kubuntu-7.10-desktop-amd64.iso' -net nic,vlan=0 -net user,vlan=0

The emulated machine says:
BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu7) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs)

Using the kernel parameter all_generic_ide solves in the emulated

[Bug 60478] Re: Missing files for qemu-system-ppc

2007-11-24 Thread Marco Costantini
The lack of openhackware package is specific to Ubuntu, because this
package is in Debian.

After installing openhackware from Debian, I downloaded the video.x with
wget http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/knoppix/qemu-0.8.1/video.x
sudo mv video.x /usr/share/qemu/video.x
and qemu-system-ppc starts.

However, I tried to boot the CD image Mac (PowerPC) and IBM-PPC
(POWER5) desktop CD downloaded from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/ports/releases/7.10/release/ and the
appears the qemu windows saying (among other messages) Boot from CD-Rom
