I completely reinstalled Kubuntu, then ran:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install neofetch
I rebooted, and the Touchpad is still detected, ran neofetch:

[Bug 1926865] Re: During OS install, GRUB tries installing on sda even when it should install on sdb

2021-05-04 Thread Mark A Gerads
The log files are from my own computer, not my dad's; I used the ubuntu-bug
command to report this bug.
During install, I noticed the installer run "grub-install /dev/sda" right
before the installer failed. This happened twice, as I had tried installing
Ubuntu to my dad's laptop twice.

[Bug 1926865] [NEW] During OS install, GRUB tries installing on sda even when it should install on sdb

2021-05-01 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

I tried installing Ubuntu on my dad's laptop, but the installer failed to
install GRUB.
I noticed it was trying to install GRUB on /dev/sda even though the EFI
partition and the Ubuntu root partition were both on /dev/sdb
I suggest that instead of hard-coding the Ubuntu installer to install on
/dev/sda, the Ubuntu installer should dynamically detect the drive which has
the EFI partition and install GRUB on that drive.

[Bug 1258422] Re: Maximized windows go under panel if panel attached to screen edge between two monitors

2017-09-27 Thread Mark A Gerads
This bug is also present when there is only 1 monitor. I have a 4K
monitor, and the panel works correctly when it is at the bottom of the
screen, but when I move it to the top of the screen where I want it to
be, suddenly the maximized windows or newly opened windows go below the
panel.

When booting, one might expect to save time by having the shift key
already pressed down, but when the password prompt to unlock the
partition appears, the keyboard seems to no longer work unless the
system is rebooted.

[Bug 1008043] [NEW] Lowscore misrecorded as 0:00 in gnomine 3.4.1

2012-06-03 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

When you tie with the last lowscore, the message pops up saying you did not
make the score list.
If you press 'New Game', a new game starts, setting the time to 0:00, and the
scorelist pops up.
I do not know if you need to beat the 10th lowscore by a fragment of a second,
or just tie.

The only reason I could figure this out is because it happened twice
today. Screenshot attached.

This bug allows someone to get to the top of the list if they can just
beat the 10th lowscore and then wait to cause a tie.

2011-02-02 Thread Mark A Gerads
After doing an update of everything, xkbmaps somehow were lost. I tried
using previous kernels, and using rescue prompt. nothing worked - mostly
because the backlight was off in the rescue consoles. I got rid of the
operating system, so I won't be of much help here. T'least now 'tis
known that this is a problem that effects the boot up process of linux,
and gdm happened to turn it back on when you shut and open the lid.

[Bug 709994] [NEW] backlight turns off when gdm loads

2011-01-29 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When I start my laptop (Acer Aspire 5734z-4836), I can see the bios, and I can
see grub.
When gdm first starts, it is so black that it looks like the screen is off.
It still displays things on the screen; If you look at it at just the right
angle it looks like maybe .4% brightness.
I thus deduced it shuts off the backlight.
Shutting the laptop lid and opening it again turns the backlight on.

I am using Natty Narwhal. I would very much like to not need to shut and
open my lid every time I use this operating-system, and to that end, I
will give all and any files required.

After further tests:
The reason it would not work is that I put the fingerprint not the ID as the

so I conclude that no bug exists, but misentered information.

[Bug 338224] [NEW] Long passwords dont work to unlock screen.

2009-03-05 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

I set my password to a passentence 39 characters long through the
terminal. The GUI tool would not let me set it this long, nor would and
other of the GUI tools let me authenticate with the new passentence,
most notably SPM and the locked screen. I suggest that the GUI tools
should be able to handle arbitrary length passwords like the terminal
does.

2009-03-05 Thread Mark A Gerads
This, to my knowledge, only affect the screensaver lock dialog and the
gnome keyring. I previously stated SPM didn't work, but it does, I'm not
sure why I said it.

I have the latest samba package installed, and it maxes out at 80 KBs,
and slows down the longer the transfer is open. in dual boot windows, it
maxes out at 830KBs.

[Bug 235378] [NEW] hardy samba critically slow

2008-05-27 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba-common

I can copy files from a windows share at 600KBs, but only copy to the share at
70KBs.
I marked this as a samba-common bug because I can copy without the 'samba'
package installed, and I suspect it to be samba-common, because when I have
'samba' installed, serving files is slow, averaging 61KBs, and it is supposed
th use the 'samba-common' for stuff. this is why I suspect samba-common.

This is slow on every machine I've installed hardy on, but I haven't
been around Ubuntu enough to know if the pre-hardies are slow.

If anyone knows what changes were made to the samba source that make it
so slow, please revert them(samba is fast on slackware).

[Bug 229416] [NEW] Synaptic package manager stops working at 100% presuseably something to do with ldconfig

2008-05-11 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

In KDE4, it stops at the end of the install saying this:

ldconfig deferred processing now taking place

Then it just sits there making no more progress.

This is critical because you cannot update anything again unless you
restart the display manager.
