[Bug 529901] [NEW] HP 311 touchpad not recognised

2010-03-01 Thread Mark Eaton
Public bug reported:

I have the HP mini 311 which has a touchpad (I believe it is an ALPS)
that is not recognised as a touchpad but shows up as a geneic PS/2
mouse. Since it appears as a generic mouse it isn't possible to
configure the touchpad features such as disabling the touchpad when
typing. The problem is present in Karmic, but I tried the alpha3 of
lucid and the same problem exists there.

In /proc/bus/input/devices I see the followin two devies

[Bug 463086] [NEW] Eclipse loses button events with swt-gtk in karmic

2009-10-28 Thread Mark Eaton
Public bug reported:

Eclipse on Karmic is unusable because buttons rarely respond to button
events. Clicking on a button shows the button depressing but nothing
happens. The only work around is to click the button so that it gets
focus and then to hit the enter key which does actually register. The
same eclipse package works fine on 9.04 so it appears to be the gtk
implementation of swt or perhaps the gtk library.

[Bug 345679] Re: [Jaunty] APIC error on CPU crashes system

Ok, the laptop died and ASUS had to replace the motherboard. Since
getting it back I haven't had any problems so I would guess that
problems were due to the pending hardware failure.

2009-04-15 Thread Mark Eaton
I switched to using the 173 version of the nvidia driver and the problem
hasn't occured since (a few weeks now) so I would guess that this is
caused by some problem with the 180 drivers and the 2.6.28 kernel.

2009-03-21 Thread Mark Eaton
Ok It crashed with noapic for me last night. (see attached kern.log)

I'm not sure what you mean about the modified kernel. I'm just using the
default 64 bit kernel that gets installed/upgraded by installation/apt.

I will try to test the problem without the nvidia driver installed now.

[Bug 131421] Re: Installer doesn't support corporate firewalls

2008-01-13 Thread Mark Eaton
I would also like to point out that the work around of adding
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://yourproxyaddress:proxyport";;
to the apt.conf file does not work since the installer is hanging when it tries
to determine the mirror to use prior to running apt. The only way I have been
able to get it to work is to set the http_proxy environment variable and run it
from the cl. Then you need to add the apt.conf changes to enable apt to work
for updates etc.

[Bug 131421] Installer doesn't support corporate firewalls

2007-08-09 Thread Mark Eaton
Public bug reported:

When performing an install of either ubuntu or kubuntu and you are
behind a corporate firewall, the install will hang when it gets to the
stage of scanning mirrors. This is because you need to setup a http
proxy before apt can work. The manual work around of opening a terminal
exporting http_proxy and manually running the installer from the command
line is rather crude. It would be a simple case for the installer to
allow the user to enter in a proxy server and have it all work.

[Bug 86592] Live CD Installer causes screen to turn off when X starts

2007-02-20 Thread Mark Eaton
Public bug reported:

I have an ASUS W2V laptop with a radeon X700 videocard. The live CD for 7.04
(and 6.10) starts
fine but when X starts the screen turns off, even though the destop continues
to load.

The problem is that the xorg.conf file needs Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,AUTO"
or it redirects
output to the vga out.

I can work around this by dropping to a terminal editing the xorg.conf
file and then ctrl-alt-backspacing X, but most people would simply think
it didn't work and give up.

[Bug 67643] keyboard input not working correctly when usplash enabled

2006-10-22 Thread Mark Eaton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

If I have usplash enabled on my ASUS W2 laptop when booting the keyboard input
doesn't
seem to work correctly in X (kdm) once it starts up. trying to enter a username
or password results in nothing being entered until I hit enter when I get a
constant stream of characters showing up in the field. If however I switch to a
virtual console and back again or simply remove usplash from the boot options
it all works fine.

[Bug 3598] Re: mtrr allocation failed

2006-10-09 Thread Mark Eaton
I get this problem if I use usplash and set a vga=??? as a boot option.
if I remove usplash from the boot parameters it works fine.

[Bug 22985] Re: [x700] fails to infer lvds for primary connector on acer ferrari 4005

2006-10-09 Thread Mark Eaton
I can confirm that his happens on my ASUS W2 laptop which also has the
x700 ati card

the Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,AUTO" workaround fixes the problem for
me.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 30557 ***

This problem also occurs for me on my ASUS W2V laptop on the 2.6.17-10 kernel.
The echo 1 > ... fix appears to work as well.

[Bug 62421] Re: no more mtrr available

2006-10-04 Thread Mark Eaton
** Description changed:

+ Downloaded updates last night and now it doesn't work again. I suspect the
problem
+ is in the initrd file loaded during boot but I have been unable to mount it
and inspect what
+ is actually in it.
+
+ ---
+
Ok I managed to get the normal live install disk to work by editing the
xorg.conf file once it started, and when I did the install from it, I don't get
the problem (for both knot3 and beta1). I spent a week trying to
figure out what was happening without success, but since the problem
disappears when using the normal installer (once you get it to work), this bug
can probably be ignored.
