[Bug 874146] Re: New windows open on the wrong monitor

2012-09-26 Thread Mark Howard
I've also had this problem - two monitors of equal resolution and the
place plugin configuration seemingly ineffective. I think I have a
workaround by following comment 10 from bug #930660, specifically:

CCSMGeneral OptionsDisplay Settings:
Overlapping Output handling=Prefer smaller output

CCSMPlace WindowsGeneral:
Multi output mode=Use output device with pointer

It does appear to be related to compiz resolution handling, but affects
situations where the outputs are the same resolution. Some comments
indicate that the relative screen locations in the configuration may
also affect this issue, in case that helps with the debugging.

A simple test case is to open the print dialog on any application (e.g.
gedit) - this used to open on the wrong screen, but is fixed by changing
the overlapping output handling.

[Bug 201375] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] doc header doesn't survive roundtrip from odt format

2009-07-03 Thread Mark Howard
This is still an issue in ubuntu 9.04 (openoffice 3.0) and openoffice
3.1 from the openoffice-ppas repository.

For me, this is a major issue resulting in having to use windows and ms
word continuously. Openoffice works great for other things, but the
headers and footers always disappear when saving as a word document.

The open office bug report notes that 'it is related to following page
style' -- is there a workaround that could be used for this?

[Bug 240062] [NEW] unable to enable effects with metacity compositing

2008-06-14 Thread Mark Howard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktop-effects

When the metacity compositing is enabled (gconf key
app/metacity/general/compositing_manager), it is not possible to enable
desktop effects from the appearance dialog. The dialog just says not
able to enable effects.

Could this be modified to turn of compositing in metacity before
attempting to start compiz.

FYI, I found that this was the reason that desktop effects weren't
working by running the compiz-check script
(http://forlong.blogage.de/article/pages/Compiz-Check) -- it may be
worth checking this for any other useful functionality which could be
tested when enabling effects.

[Bug 141027] Re: Formatting Message...

I also see this formatting message message occasionally and evolution hangs.
I have evolution open continuously and it works most of the time. It can be
running for many days (reading many emails) without showing this message.
I have one pop and one imap account.
The traces seem to suggest ldap is being used. I did setup an ldap account

helps.

[Bug 139316] Re: wrong size in web browser

2007-09-27 Thread Mark Howard
Using ubuntu gutsy. The bug is still present with all packages at the latest
gutsy versions.
Example url:
http://developers.sun.com/learning/javaoneonline/2007/pdf/TS-4568.pdf?
The attached image shows the sizing problem with that url. I'm fairly sure it's
trying to embed evince for viewing the pdf.

[Bug 140670] gnome menubar tooltip stops vmware

2007-09-18 Thread Mark Howard
Public bug reported:

When I run a vmware client application full screen, the gnome menu bar tooltip
usually appears near the top left of the screen, saying Browse and run
installed applications. This is appearing above the vmware window and does not
time out and disappear. If I hover over it, the vmware window exists full
screen.
My main problem with this is that the tooltop does not timeout, so I always
have to try hard to avoid going in that area of the screen.

This could be related to Bug #128854

[Bug 139316] wrong size in web browser

2007-09-13 Thread Mark Howard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When opening pdfs in the epiphany web browser, the evince window is the wrong
size. Sometimes it takes up the whole screen, i.e. parts of it are on top of
the epiphany toolbar and menu bars -- but it doesn't have any window
decorations and is always on top.
Other times, it is embedded within a tab as expected, but is only given half of
the space of the tab, so one half of the screen is grey and the other half has
the pdf document squashed into it.

[Bug 117439] widgets cut off in options dialog

2007-05-28 Thread Mark Howard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

In the options dialog, many checkboxes aren't rendered correctly - large parts
of them are cut off. This is with current gusty, oo 2.2.0-1ubuntu3
Might be related to Bug #45324, but this isn't about the text problems and
shows up all the time.

also see this?

[Bug 87621] Margins incorrect in printouts

2007-02-24 Thread Mark Howard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When printing from epiphany, the edges of the pages are cut off due to
incorrect margins. Unfortunately the current version of epiphany (in feisty)
doesn't let you specify margins.
I'm not sure if this feature has been removed, or the defaults have changed,
but I'm sure it used to print ok before.
Please let me know if I'm just missing the margins option.

In case it's useful, I've retested with a recent jhbuild (of 2.18) and

in stock edgy.

This is the same issue as in Bug #3667, but with the new gtk+ printing

nothing. This is tested with a Laserjet-5P, in case it is specific to
this printer.

[Bug 46776] Re: Incompatible with full URL HTTP requests from recent apt versions

2006-07-14 Thread Mark Howard
Matt,
How did you perform the check? Adding a simple print statement to the part of
the code which is touched in the patch shows the full url here (no other
proxies or apt.conf settings).
Note that this is only for cases where apt and apt-proxy are running on
different machines. Local instances do seem to have just the path (and hence
work unmodified).
