[Bug 1291427] Re: Baobab won't start: Failed to register: Timeout was reached

2021-06-13 Thread Mark Jeronimus
It happens to me when one of the file systems is busy (USB) or the network
mount unreachable.
For reference, it also happens when specifying a known non-busy directory on
the command-line, like /home/mark.
xdiskusage fails the same way with unavailable filesystems but works fine when
specifying the directory.

[Bug 385335] Re: gnome-font-viewer default text not visible in all fonts

2021-03-16 Thread Mark Jeronimus
I found the example strings in:
https://github.com/GNOME/pango/blob/master/pango/pango-language-sample-
table.h

and the string selection here: https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-font-
viewer/blob/827b338762d45535718be637a838a75f8c218f7d/src/sushi-font-
widget.c#L315

This means that it should be possible to manipulate the language though
environment variables, but I've been unsuccessful in doing so because of
my lack of knowledge.

[Bug 1691025] Re: Installing xpra on HWE-enabled LTS breaks system

2020-06-14 Thread Mark Jeronimus
I couldn't install xpra because it depends on `xserver-xorg-core`. When
trying to install that I saw it wants to remove lots of packages. Good
thing I decide to do a little more research because if I went on with
fingers crossed, I would probably have gotten myself into the same
broken Linux situation. Please also think about the people who don't do
some more research and break their system.

[Bug 432677] Re: Java JComboBox callback freezes Xorg

2020-04-27 Thread Mark Jeronimus
IntelliJ IDEA *always* runs on Jetbrains JDK. It's made to run it's own
bundled JDK. The JDK can be overridden but it screws with font rendering
(purple edges) and possibly other things.

The application under debug, however, should *not* run on de Jetbrains
JDK. While possible, the Jetbrains themselves discourages it. In project
settings you look at the list of installed SDKs and see if the project
uses OpenJDK or not. This is the case in my case.

It seems indeed that OpenJDK-11.0.4 which I run is affected buy this
"fixed in JDK 7" bug 6714678 you linked. They talk about adding a VM
argument `-Dsun.awt.disablegrab=true` and this indeeds prevents Xorg
from freezing.

Simple steps to reproduce (I hope):

- sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk
- Download IntelliJ IDEA Community edition, Extract somewhere, run
- Create new project (all settings default)
- File > Project Structure... > SDKs > Check for or add OpenJDK
- Put XLock.java in the src directory
- Remove the line `package xlock;` which is now an error
- Click next to line number 24 to toggle a breakpoint there
- Debug (green cocroach button)

[Bug 752773] Re: dash should sort results (apps, files, ...) by relevance

2020-01-30 Thread Mark Jeronimus
The algorithm should use a balance between 'frequency of use' (or maybe
even 'duration of use') and *recency* of last use.

For example, I installed an application yesterday and launched it once.
Today I want to launch it again but forgot the name, and it's not in any
of the 29(!) suggested apps when I type nothing.

[Bug 1371928] Re: Main window content fully transparent

2018-02-07 Thread Mark Jeronimus
I have it with Java, Firefox, Remmina, Wine, Terminal, etc. Lately most
often with the TortoiseHG's rejected chunks merge window. I on average
~10 windows open at a time. It doesn't matter if I recently rebooted or
not. Both pop-ups and main windows. Sometimes fully transparent, other
times it renders initially and then never again.

Now trying with Compiz "Animations" off to see if it makes a difference.

[Bug 731790] Re: Multiple quick clicks on launcher icon with multiple windows completely crashes Unity

2017-12-14 Thread Mark Jeronimus
Still present in, or regressed to, version 7.4.0

The way I reproduced it is slightly different from OP: Repeat high speed
clicking on a program icon with multiple windows until crash occurs.
Crash is not total and windows are still usable but the launcher status
looks crippled.

Launching `unity &` in a terminal fixes it, and it comes up with a crash
reporter saying that the crash report is corrupt and cannot be
processed.

[Bug 344276] [NEW] Segfaulting (regarding flash)

2009-03-17 Thread Mark Jeronimus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When loading a page containing a flash applet, Firefox will often
generate a segfault showing the following error message in the console:

--start quote--
about:blank is either a broken URL or Swfdec can't parse it
Segmentation fault
--end quote--

As the word Swfdec appears in the error message, I can only deduce that
there might be something wrong with the integration of the flash plugin
(Shockwave Flask 9.0 r999). I also tried installing the FlashBlock
extension and the errors didn't go away.

The error only occurs when I (re)load a certain page containing a flash
applet (like http://www.youtube.com/). The error is not always
reproducible, at least on my system, but it seems that it happens more
than 50% of the time. Sometimes one the following error occurs instead:

--start quote--
about:blank is either a broken URL or Swfdec can't parse it

(firefox:5480): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
unhandled event 19
--end quote--

--start quote--
about:blank is either a broken URL or Swfdec can't parse it

(firefox:5416): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
Loading stream:

unhandled event 9
unhandled event 10
unhandled event 9
unhandled event 10
--start quote--

For the times when the browser doesn't crash, when I click on the flash applet
to activate it, the CPU usage booms to 100% (dual core) and the browser freezes.
