[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2008-01-29 Thread Mark Junker
I was able to fix this problem by installing all new updates.

Because I was unable to use WLAN I had to do the following steps:

1. Boot from the Ubuntu CD
2. Connecto to your WLAN (i.e. make sure that you have an internet connection)
3. Mount your linux partition (on my computer it got mounted at /media/disk)
4. Open the terminal
5. Do binding mounts
sudo mount --bind /dev /media/disk/dev
sudo mount --bind /proc /media/disk/proc
sudo mount --bind /sys /media/disk/sys
6. chroot into your linux
sudo chroot /media/disk
7. Update your system
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
8. Reboot

Now your system should be alive again.

[Bug 34902] Re: Ralink Wireless legacy drivers (rt2500 rt61 rt73 rt2570) USB/PCMCIA/PCI hangs PC

2007-10-04 Thread Mark Junker
I had the problem that my computer stops responding when I used my
D-Link DWL-G122. The kernel tried to load the rt73usb driver. My
solution was to compile and install the CVS snapshot from
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/rt73-cvs-daily.tar.gz . After
blacklisting rt73usb, I was able to access my WPA protected WLAN using
the wlan0 interface (manual configuration). NetworkManager didn't work
but I guess that's a different problem with an unrecognized IF name.

[Bug 136471] gnome-appearance consumes all cpu time

2007-08-31 Thread Mark Junker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

I use Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and whenever I want to change the appearance
of gnome, the gnome-appearance process consumes all cpu time. I have
to kill it explicitly to make thie system usable again. I recognized
that the tab Theme (translated from german) only shows the preview of
the Clearlooks theme. All other themes are shown with a ?. My
assumption is that gnome-appearance wants to create a preview for all
themes but gets stuck in an endless loop (or something like that).

[Bug 93299] Enable DEBUG_FS by default to support kernel driver developers

2007-03-18 Thread Mark Junker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-generic

It would be very useful to have DEBUG_FS support. This would eliminate
kernel recompilation for kernel driver developers who want to output
some debug stuff - like mmio-trace
(http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MmioTrace).

To be honest, this actually isn't a bug but more like a feature request
but I wasn't able to enter a feature request for linux-image-generic (or
too blind to find the right link).

[Bug 45737] Re: Negative count for amount of unread e-mails.

2006-10-12 Thread Mark Junker
I have the same problem with 1.5.0.7. It'd be nice if this problem can
be fixed somehow. Something that may help: I uninstalled the mozilla-
thunderbird package and installed the tar.gz archive (linux i686) on my
own. The problem remains after transferring the old profile to the
new profile. So I guess that it's not an Ubuntu specific problem ...

After a few tests, I've found a way to reproduce this strange behavior:

1. Create a new RSS account
2. Add a new feed to the root of the RSS account
3. Create a sub folder
4. Move feed to the new sub folder

I did this for the PowerShell blog, Mono blog (both moved to
development folder), and Beryl blog (moved to an application
folder).

Now it's impossible to refresh the RSS feeds.

[Bug 64805] KNC1 DVB-S+ not working

2006-10-09 Thread Mark Junker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.17

Hi,

after enabling V4L v1 API in the sources, I was still unable to use my
KNC1 DVB-S+ but the kernel documentation claims that it suppots it.

The problem is that I have a KNC1 DVB-S+ with a different PCI ID which
was already added to the latest kernel sources and just have to be
backported.

Please insert the following line to budget-av.c right after the line
MAKE_EXTENSION_PCI(knc1sp, 0x1131, 0x0011),:

--- snip ---
MAKE_EXTENSION_PCI(knc1sp, 0x1894, 0x0011),
--- snip ---

This line was simply forgotten when KNC1 support was added to the
kernel.
