[Bug 1033598] Re: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being

2016-01-11 Thread Martin Albisetti
Hi, this code is being dropped in 16.04 and will no longer be an issue.
As for previous versions of Ubuntu we don't yet have a plan on how to improve
it given a complex chain of dependencies.

[Bug 1454228] Re: Apps search often returns irrelevant results

2015-05-12 Thread Martin Albisetti
I understand why this would be confusing, lets see how we can fix it.

The technical reason for the matches are because we search for app names, but
also descriptions.
Do you have a suggestions on how to handle that?

Given there's already a process that checks for updates, I would
strongly suggest to not make another call per app preview, but rather
use the existing process as a data source when showing whether a
specific app you are looking at has an update.

Christopher, please stop changing the status to invalid, it is clearly not
invalid.
If you disagree, please raise it with someone in the bug triage team rather

[Bug 1187500] [NEW] [Saucy] Unity is slow on Intel graphics

2013-06-04 Thread Martin Albisetti
Public bug reported:

For the last few weeks, unity and/or compiz has been crazy slow on both my
computers with Intel graphics, alt+tab can take 2-3 seconds to complete. The
lag can be seen across the board with the dash as well.
It worked fantastically well with previous versions, as well as at the
beggining of the Saucy cycle.

[Bug 1095647] Re: Brightness function keys incorrectly mapped on Toshiba U845W-S410

2013-05-22 Thread Martin Albisetti
Indeed I still am, Luis.
I'm now on Saucy, so keeping as rolling as I can :)
Something else that happens that I didn't mention is that on boot up, function
keys are enabled with the FN key, but after a suspend/resume cycle, they are
the primary action (the latter is what I have set in the BIOS).
In both situations the brightness keys are incorrectly mapped.

[Bug 1100568] [NEW] nm-applet doesn't appear to be connecting after resume

2013-01-16 Thread Martin Albisetti
Public bug reported:

After I resume, nm-applet seems to go from disconnected to connected, not
giving any feedback while it's connecting.
It's a bit uncomfortable because you can't tell if you should manually connect
or not.

[Bug 1040320] [NEW] Lenovo x120e install fails when in UEFI mode

2012-08-22 Thread Martin Albisetti
Public bug reported:

As seen here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/121438/cannot-boot-after-installing-ubuntu-on-lenovo-x120e
If you install Ubuntu, 12.04 or latest 12.10 while booting in UEFI mode, after
you reboot it says it can't find an operating system.
Setting it to boot as legacy during the install works fine and you can switch
back after that with no problems.

Re: [Bug 978289] Re: Screen corruption after the latest upgrade

2012-04-11 Thread Martin Albisetti
On Wed, Apr 11, 2012 at 3:42 PM, Bryce Harrington
978...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:
Hmm.  Well nothing graphical has changed in X recently (there's been
some synaptics fixes, but that wouldn't cause this.)  However, the fact
that it shows up in photos but not screenshots fairly strongly suggests
a video driver issue rather than, say, a compositing bug.

Nothing indicative in the logs (for corruption bugs there usually isn't
though).  The fglrx installation looks fine.  I do notice in your
xorg.conf there's some things set, like TargetRefresh.  I don't know
what that parameter does, so you might try commenting it out to see if
it has any effect.   Everything else looks normal.  (Btw, you may be
able to run fglrx with no xorg.conf now; that might be worth testing,
but be prepared to copy it back in place in case X doesn't boot.)

The current xorg.conf has been full generated by the amdaccel control
panel, so no manual futzing.
I commented out TargetRefresh and it didn't help.
Removing xorg.conf, however, did.
From what I can tell, it was created because I wanted to have a dual
monitor set up, and without tweaking it from the amdaccel app, I can't
get more than 1600x1600 between both monitors, which makes it feel
like 1994 all over again :)

Can you tell me more about the symptoms?  Does the corruption show up
100% of the time, or only in certain apps?  Is it only associated with
text fonts?  Does it always look the same as in the photo, or does it
 vary?

It seems to happen with everything, not linked to a specific app.
Images, text, all of it. If I scroll up and down, it fixes the
corruption, but only until something draws itself again.

Can you reproduce this behavior with Unity2D or Gnome Classic (no
 effects)?

If you disable fglrx and boot with -ati, does the corruption still
 occur?

I haven't tried these, but am happy to if you think it'll add valuable
information.

[Bug 902557] Re: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)

2012-03-11 Thread Martin Albisetti
Seems better with linux-backports-modules-cw-3.3-precise-generic:

331 packets transmitted, 317 received, 4% packet loss, time 330600ms

1000 packets transmitted, 988 received, 1% packet loss, time 1000720ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 1.199/5.505/815.552/37.140 ms

But still noticeable unreliability (streaming a video over the network
lags every few minutes).

This is all on the local network, 4 mts from the router and the same
situation has zero packet loss with the intel wireless card.

[Bug 902557] Re: Wireless not working in 12.04 for rtl8192ce (RTL8188CE)

2012-03-07 Thread Martin Albisetti
I ended up replacing the card with an Intel one because the laptop was
basically an expensive brick :)
I do still have it, so I'll try to put it back and try that package.

It does seem to be an extended problem:
