Since my update to precise slapd has this bug. Purging and reinstalling doesn't 
help. So I run slapd -Tt and got this:
sudo slapd -Tt
[sudo] password for martin: 
5051b004 olcDbDirectory: value #0: invalid path: Permission denied
5051b004 config error processing olcDatabase={1}hdb,cn=config: olcDbDirectory: 
value #0: invalid path: Permission denied
slaptest: bad configuration file!
