Howard, It's having the usernames come from ldap, rather than the local
system, that causes policykit to have weird stuff happen, that causes
screen locking. It's all interconnected :)

The bug isn't in the parts individually, but in the integration of them
all.

[Bug 1274013] [NEW] gdm fails to start without 3d acceleration

2014-01-29 Thread Martin Meredith
Public bug reported:

In Saucy Salamander, gdm will not start if 3d acceleration is not
available. This throws an error to /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log

gnome-session-is-accelerated: No composite extension.
gnome-session-check-accelerated: Helper exited with code 256
gnome-session-is-accelerated: No composite extension.
gnome-session-check-accelerated: Helper exited with code 256
** (process:4142): WARNING **: software acceleration check failed: Child
process exited with code 1

This is a regression from raring, and is the same if gnome-fallback is
unavailable.

Possibly the same bug as #1251281, as this shows the same error.

This is preventing me from upgrading to raring, as I run 4 screens on an
Nvidia Quadro NVS 450, meaning 3d is unavailable.

Will not fix. Installing the package does not neccesarily mean you want
debug info to show. You may just want a local trace to be saved or
similar.

[Bug 1047384] [NEW] System Encryption Password set before setting keyboard locale

2012-09-07 Thread Martin Meredith
Public bug reported:

When installing my system, I selected to encrypt access to my system.

This prompted me to enter a password.

I entered a password with a # symbol in it, however due to using an
english keyboard, this would not have been correctly recorded as a #,
but as a ' instead - leading it to refuse my password when booting.

I tested this both connected to and not connected to the internet.

It seems that at the point of entering the password during the
installer, the keyboard layout was set to en_US.

Therefore, when booting and having the locale as en_GB - it didn't
correctly work.

I tried this with the @ symbol, which when entered was accepted on boot
by hitting shift+2 (american combination)

I also tried this by entering a password with a £ sign (shift 3 on UK
keyboard - which would be a # on a US keyboard)

When entering password on boot, entering the password with the # key
rather than the £ key worked.

In summary - when entering password for encrypting system, keyboard is
set as a US keyboard layout, which differs from that when booting to
enter the password if it is changed in a later step.

Proposed solution: Move the keyboard selection / Locale Setup before any
input boxes. (espescially those where you can't see the contents of
them!)

Could you please check whether this problem still exists for you in the

version of Ubuntu, it'd be nice to see whether it still exists.

Till then, I'll mark this as incomplete.

[Bug 1047462] [NEW] Focus lost for login window when tabbing out

2012-09-07 Thread Martin Meredith
Public bug reported:

With a new Quantic install I attempted to login to Ubuntu One.

I had to move to another window to grab my password from my password
manager - I did this via alt+tab.

When returning to Ubuntu One (via alt tab again) The login screen was
not visible. It was hidden behind the main screen, but was not
accessible via alt+tab. I had to move the window out of the way to
access the logni screen.

[Bug 1047499] [NEW] When bug already reported (automatic crash) apport mentions Bug open in browser - yet browser is not opened until after clicking close

2012-09-07 Thread Martin Meredith
Public bug reported:

When an automatic crash report happens, and apport knows the bug has
been reported - it gives a message referencing bug in browser - yet no
browser is opened until the close on that dialogue is clicked.

This is probably just a wording error, but it comes across as that the
bug should be being shown simultaneously to the dialog, not after
closing it.

[Bug 742527] [NEW] Compiz crashes on any load

2011-03-25 Thread Martin Meredith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Compiz is crashing on my machine (after an upgrade to natty) with any
load of it (this is including any launch from a session)

It does not automatically fall back, but leaves me with an unresponsive
black screen.

Switching to a console and back to X gives me a black screen with a
cursor, and I can use the keyboard to replace with metacity.

[Bug 670479] [NEW] Indicator Messages takes over Negative Screen Compiz Shortcut

2010-11-03 Thread Martin Meredith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-messages

When hitting Super + M to get an inverted screen (Part of Compiz), it
now pops up the indicator-messages dropdown.

have it back.

[Bug 592371] Re: Logitech Cordless Wave Pro key mappings incorrect

2010-06-29 Thread Martin Meredith
The keys:

- Config (hot key - window with cog)
- Media Center (hotkey)
- Battery (fn+f11)
- a (fn+f4)
- b (fn +f5)
- c (fn+f6)
- cascade (hot key - under zoom buttons)

Are not being picked up with the kernel

the camera button is still being picked up as media and the music
button is being picked up as config

This is after running

sudo udevadm control --reload-rules

And unplugging/replugging USB receiver.

I believe the line

ENV{ID_VENDOR}==Logitech*, ATTRS{name}==Logitech USB Receiver,
RUN+=keymap $name logitech-wave-cordless

That was already there would have matched against the keyboard?
