[Bug 1872108] Re: Bass not on working Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen running focal

2020-10-14 Thread Martin Seener
The new 5.4.0-51 kernel has been released to focal-release today and
this includes the "routing" fix. Tested it on Mint 20 and it works for
me! I think this bug can be closed now

[Bug 1872108] Re: Bass not on working Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen running focal

2020-05-15 Thread Martin Seener
Hi,
some days ago i already privately reached out to Benjamin (of this Thread in
#11). This was his answer:

Hi Martin,

Thanks for getting in touch. As another user reported in this message
https://gist.github.com/hamidzr/dd81e429dc86f4327ded7a2030e7d7d9#gistcomment-3276276
the patches that I originally posted introduce a regression in headphone
output volume. I'm currently trying to see if that can be fixed. Today I
tried fiddling with alsactl controls but that did not help. However I
found that Node 0x21 (as well as Node 0x17) also has a different
connection when using my patches. I'll investigate further about that as
soon as I have some time.

Until the headphone volume regression is avoided I don't think it would
be a good idea to post the patches upstream again.

I didn't look into the Ubuntu 20.04 situation but I'm curious to do that
if I have the time.

So it seems, they're on it. Don't know how much push we should put into
this mailing list though.

2020-05-09 Thread Martin Seener
I just also ran alsa-info on my Mint 19.3 (Ubuntu 18.04 with 5.3.0-40 kernel
and my "fix" where bass works!!). Maybe it helps investigating.
http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=0fb55e2c97b8b3a9061f9878a1c5a1305b6b95a1

What do you mean with upstream needs a solution first @hui.wang. Can you
give us more info here? Also if we can somehow help otherwise instead of
only wait for it?

[Bug 1845677] Re: volume control doesn't work (it's just on/off) on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen

2020-04-27 Thread Martin Seener
I tried updating libasound2(-data), pulseaudio and kernel to 5.3.0-46 (not
oem!) in my Mint 19.3 Box (Bionic). Also removed manual changes like blacklist
snd_hda_intel and snd_soc_skl and also removed the "ucm" added by the script i
found on github (posted above) from /usr/share/alsa/ucm/sof-skl_hda_card.
After that, I rebooted and sound and mic came up grad - except bass speaker
whereas the sound is 1. mostly treble and 2. sound in general was quieter as
before.

My BIOS starts with N2H, so i checked the new ucm conf and tried to play
around with the bass settings there and diff'ed with my HiFi.conf i had
before but no luck. No base. What i'am doing wrong?

Can i also help with other logfiles or informations? If yes, please let
me know, how i can do it because i never did before. I just booted Focal
live image from just some days ago here and ran the apport-colllect
command only.

Thanks for opening this bug and taking care of it!

[Bug 1845677] Re: volume control doesn't work (it's just on/off) on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen

2020-03-31 Thread Martin Seener
Hi,
may i ask if the bass speaker will also sometimes be supported in Focal?
Currently iam using Mint 19.3 (18.04 with 5.3.0-40 kernel and sof firmware)
from a script i found on github to enable it
(https://gist.github.com/hamidzr/dd81e429dc86f4327ded7a2030e7d7d9).
With that all 4 speakers (under screen and both at bottom of laptop) + the bass
speaker are working. I compared that with the daily focal build as of "today".
In Focal all 4 speakers and mic are working, but the bass speaker is missing. i
compared that with the exact same youtube video and quality and can hear the
difference that bass is missing.

I was unable to find anything regarding that in launchpad for my X1
Carbon 7th yet, so do i need to open another bug for that?

Thanks 4 help!

[Bug 1859754] Re: [SRU] add ucm to make alsa/sof driver work under PA (variants of Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th, Dell cnl and cml machines)

2020-03-31 Thread Martin Seener
I just see kernel 5.3.0-45-101 as a new kernel and in the changelog only
see "Bump ABI". Where can i see all changes and will it fix more of this
issue here or make it worse again?

[Bug 1845678] Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Generation built-in microphone doesn't work

2020-03-20 Thread Martin Seener
Would also be interested how to come back from my hacky solution to the
default one. If the new kernel and packages are available in the stable
branch i would also try to fix it myself and write a small guide. I can
use timeshift to go back to my working version if i f**up.

[Bug 1845678] Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Generation built-in microphone doesn't work

2020-03-20 Thread Martin Seener
Hi @humbell,
yeah i wrote this back in january when i freshly got my X1C7. It still works
pretty good for me now with the -40-generic kernel. Newer kernels currently
don't work and/or breaking reboots/sleep.
I will also wait for @hui.wangs new kernel and libasound2 and test this locally.
Using Timeshift to back to my working environment if needed. Hope we can get
this one finally fixed for everyone with default packages and without hacky
stuff.

[Bug 1859754] Re: add ucm to make alsa/sof driver work under PA (variants of Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th, Dell cnl and cml machines)

2020-03-18 Thread Martin Seener
Hi @hui.wang,
i can also help with that. I'm currently using Mint 19.3 with the
5.3.0-40-generic kernel and used this script to activate my soundcard and mic.
This works great until the -40- kernel but with -42- also the shutdown doesnt
work anymore.
Nevertheless here is my bios_version grabbed with cat
/sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/bios_version
N2HET44W (1.27 ) - So "N2H".

Let me know if i can also help otherwise.
Is the procedure the same for me on Mint if i want your proposed version to
run? I can use timeshift if something goes wrong and restore the last working
version, so i can test almost everything.
Btw. the 5.0.0-1043-oem-osp1 kernel didnt boot correctly. it stopped with blank
screen and only mouse was active.
