[Bug 1925429] Re: Flickering of the graphical environment (i915 [drm] GPU HANG)
Attaching a screenshot showing some of the early symptoms (see the scrambled content of the terminal, the horizontal line, as well as the oddly colored apport tab in tint2). Usually the effects are dynamic (e.g., an icon or some part of the window gets drawn, disappears, gets drawn again, ad infinitum), so a screencast probably could be more illustrative (if necessary, I can find out how to record one). ** Attachment added: "screen.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1925429/+attachment/5490892/+files/screen.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925429 Title: Flickering of the graphical environment (i915 [drm] GPU HANG) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1925429/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1925429] [NEW] Flickering of the graphical environment (i915 [drm] GPU HANG)
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 20.10 uname -r: 5.8.0-50-generic Machine: Lenovo T440s 1) The graphical environment starts flickering, drawing the windows and their content scrambled, flashing, etc. Over the time the graphical environment disintegrates completely (scrambled windows, horizontal lines and solid squares all over the screen, impossible to use any controls or even to understand where they are), rendering any further work impossible (the only remedy is to reboot the system). At the onset of those symptoms dmesg or the like do not contain anything informative; however, usually the graphical environment also at some point freezes for a moment. When this happens, the dmesg gets appended with lines informing about a gpu hang: [28620.924309] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 7:1:dfdef4fe, in Renderer [104270] [28620.924474] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] Resetting chip for stopped heartbeat on rcs0 [28621.027257] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] Renderer[104270] context reset due to GPU hang [28654.972181] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 7:1:0020, in Renderer [104270] [28654.973039] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] Resetting chip for stopped heartbeat on rcs0 [28655.075025] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] Renderer[104270] context reset due to GPU hang This is the probably the only possibly relevant info I could find in the logs. 2) Reproducing: no specific steps are known. I noticed that using Firefox usually speeds up the onset of the problems, but the bug presents itself also when using other programs (e.g., Wolfram Mathematica). 3) The bug started to manifest itself since updating to the kernel 5.8.0-49 via apt upgrade. Most tellingly, booting with 5.8.0-48 leads to stable, working system without any of the described problems. 4) The only recent relevant report I could find seems to be this one: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/2986 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.10 Package: linux-image-5.8.0-50-generic 5.8.0-50.56 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.8.0-50.56-generic 5.8.18 Uname: Linux 5.8.0-50-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu50.5 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: Error: command ['fuser', '-v', '/dev/snd/by-path', '/dev/snd/controlC1', '/dev/snd/hwC1D0', '/dev/snd/pcmC1D0c', '/dev/snd/pcmC1D0p', '/dev/snd/controlC0', '/dev/snd/hwC0D0', '/dev/snd/pcmC0D10p', '/dev/snd/pcmC0D9p', '/dev/snd/pcmC0D8p', '/dev/snd/pcmC0D7p', '/dev/snd/pcmC0D3p', '/dev/snd/seq', '/dev/snd/timer'] failed with exit code 1: CasperMD5CheckResult: skip Date: Thu Apr 22 09:31:48 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-03-18 (2226 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" - Release amd64 (20141022.1) MachineType: LENOVO 20ARS45900 ProcFB: 0 i915drmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-5.8.0-50-generic root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro quiet splash elevator=noop vt.handoff=7 PulseList: Error: command ['pacmd', 'list'] failed with exit code 1: No PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon. [Bug 765438] Re: On startup, the backlight is off on laptop
For me the issue is still present in Ubuntu 12.10. I'm on emachines e725, shortly after the Quantal Quetzel was out, I tried to boot from the original 12.10 32bit iso (tried out both creating a live usb and burning cd), was able to get just the black screen. After modifying the relevant files to set additional boot parameters acpi_backlight=vendor i915.invert_brightness=1, got normally working startup disk. After installing Quantal I had to modify boot parameters also for the newly installed system's kernel. With these parameters set, the system functions normally, except for one case, when I recently closed the laptop's lid while an external monitor was connected. After raising the lid, laptop's backlight again was completely off; I was able to get it working by entering the command setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=0 in terminal (thanks to the other monitor). I couldn't reproduce the problem since then, though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/765438 Title: On startup, the backlight is off on laptop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/765438/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 598962] [NEW] Ubuntu Lucid sometimes doesn't boot; a Glib warning (irrelevant?) is displayed.
Public bug reported: I have Ubuntu 10.04 successfully installed on my eMachines E725, but sometimes when I try to boot Ubuntu, the process stops right before getting to the login window (at least, I guess so - booting lasts as long as usual, but instead of login I encounter this), and in the console a message GLIb-WARNING **: getpwid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0) is seen. This doesn't happen often - once in a day or two days. Unfortunately, I haven't identified the steps to reproduce this error. As I read in the Steve Langasek's post in the bug report #532984: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/532984/comments/27 , the GLIB warning is just a generic warning and doesn't help that much. So, I actually have no idea what information would be meaningful. I executed the command 'ubuntu-bug linux' , as suggested in the post I mentioned. Please let me know if there is a way I can retrieve some more helpful information. I'm sorry, right now it's impossible for me to download the newest releases to perform these tests. Still, I haven't encountered this problem for a while, so it might be somehow fixed already. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 206b936f https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469305 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 220045] Re: Content of email is blank
This problem happens to appear and disappear without any obvious reason. I don't believe it has anything to do with the Lightning add-on, I have encountered this bug several times despite the fact I have never had this particular add-on. This problem happened some more times but disappeared itself soon, so I didn't pay attention anymore. In case it starts bothering you again, you might want to consider upgrading to Thunderbird 3. I've been using it together with Ubuntu 9.10 for some time and have not encountered this problem anymore... -- Content of email is blank https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220045 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 241609] Re: Firefox 3 bookmarks lost after unclean shutdown
Just happened with me; Ubuntu 8.10 + Firefox 3.08. BTW, I did previously try to run sudo firefox. Normally this would start another Firefox, 3.1b3, which is installed for root user, but that time 3.08 started. When I later tried to run Firefox as normal user, all the bookmarks were gone and FF reported it as unable to restore them from backup. Moreover, when I open a web page by clicking a link, the address bar does't change (actually it remains empty). The icon next to the tab title shows that the web page is still loading, although in fact it's loaded. Running firefox from terminal gives the following output: Torbutton logger online [04-24 17:21:29] Torbutton NOTE: Skipping no location: chrome://browser/content/browser.xul I've installed Torbutton, as you see. But Error Console gives the following error, repeated for several times: Error: [Exception... Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService] nsresult: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) location: JS frame :: file:///home/admins/.mozilla/firefox/w544d3yb.default/extensions/%7Be0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca%7D/components/ignore-history.js :: anonymous :: line 67 data: no] Source File: file:///home/admins/.mozilla/firefox/w544d3yb.default/extensions/%7Be0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca%7D/components/ignore-history.js Line: 67 The mentioned JS file in attachment. [Bug 220045] Re: Content of email is blank
I have only POP mailboxes. The only extension shown in Tools-Add-ons-Extensions tab is the mentioned Remove Duplicate Messages, version 0.1.06, from Mozilla addons site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/956 I couldn't produce the problem right now either, as it sometimes happens and sometimes not. I used the Help-Report a bug.. option in thunderbird hoping it will give some more information, altough probably it's useless if nothing wrong happened. Anyway, it can be found here https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/336144 Forgot to mention in previous post - the last time this error was produced, I checked out the Error console - but it was clear. Please reopen with all info again if you see this with 2.0.0.18. Yes, unfortunately I see the same problem even with version 2.0.0.19 (20090105) Opening a new message results in a blank page. I have minimized the header by default, so after I've clicked the + mark and then - left to the Subject: , the message is drawn correctly. Even more, the last time it happened, I after gotting the message to be displayed selected a large amount of text and tried to drag it. This caused to disappear first lines (approximately 10) from the message's top. Still, probably this behaviour could be related to the OS, not the Thunderbird itself. This problem appeared some days ago and now it happens very often. I hadn't updated Thunderbird, nor any addons. However, OS is changed almost every day - getting some updates installed, new programs, etc. OS: Ubuntu 8.10 Thunderbird addon: Remove Duplicate Messages, version 0.1.06, created by Thorsten W. Schmidt. -- Content of email is blank https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220045 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
