[Bug 1767302] Re: User is not added to kvm group when installing gnome-boxes

2018-09-17 Thread Matthew Ames
I've just installed gnome boxes into a virtual machine and checked by
groups both before and after, and I'm not a member of the kvm group,
despite being in the sudo group.

I can't do much more testing right now, but from my understanding of the
issue when I raised it about 6 months ago, my guess would be that the
logic isn't working.

I had to manually add myself to the kvm group to make gnome-boxes work.

[Bug 1759806] Re: Unable to start VM in gnome-boxes

2018-05-20 Thread Matthew Ames
This may come a little later than you would have liked, but you can use
the command "newgrp kvm" from a terminal window, and then launch gnome-
boxes from that self-same terminal window.

Following on for #70, one cannot install new packages for appstream if
the packages cannot be refreshed. What will be done to advise users how
to get around this problem. Finding this bug report was more luck than
skill.

[Bug 1283530] [NEW] Using alt-printscreen when locally integrated menus is turned on creates undesirable results

2014-02-22 Thread Matthew Ames
Public bug reported:

When using locally integrated menus, creating screenshots of an app
produces undesirable results.

Depending on how fast you can perform alt+printscreen, you either see
only the menu items in the screenshot, or you see a crossfade between
the window title and the menu items.

This may be undesirable for anyone trying to create screenshots for
documentation.

[Bug 1231901] [NEW] Installing Nagios3 and Apache2 in Saucy does not enable the cgi mod, which is required

2013-09-27 Thread Matthew Ames
Public bug reported:

I installed nagios3 in saucy, and as such it installed Apache2 along
side it. When I tried viewing the status of a service in the web

Upon inspection, this is because the apache2 mod cgi had not been
enabled by the installer.

[Bug 1108695] [NEW] When dpkg-exec runs during an upgrade and requires user interaction, nothing is done to make the user aware of this.

2013-01-29 Thread Matthew Ames
Public bug reported:

I am running Raring, and this morning (29-01-2013) I noticed that
upgrades on my PCs for libc6 required user interaction, asking to
restart services without asking, during the dpkg-exec stage.

The update manager would just sit in the background, stuck on that
stage, until I expanded the details box and answered the questions
within.

This is obviously very poor behaviour, and more should be done to make
the user aware that interaction is required.

[Bug 1054282] Re: No obvious way to restrict shopping suggestions from displaying adult products

2012-09-27 Thread Matthew Ames
#21 I disagree!

It's entirely possible for an operating system to include pretty good
parental controls. If you take a look at the ones on Mac, as soon as
they're enabled, *no* web browser can access anything which is
considered to be adult. Is the dash not just a glorified web browser in
this sense?

I find it hard to believe that the operating system can't analyse
traffic coming in to look for keywords.

[Bug 1056970] [NEW] Since the introduction of the close button when Scale is toggled (super+w), the animation is slow on two monitors. One is fine.

2012-09-26 Thread Matthew Ames
Public bug reported:

Scale was recently updated to include a close button per window.

If I run with two monitors, there is a definite slow down of the Scale
animation as I open more windows. Note, these windows could be as simple
as a terminal or gedit, it seems that number is important, not size or
detail.

When I disable my second monitor, the Scale animation continues to work
at what I would consider a normal (read acceptable) speed.

[Bug 1044451] [NEW] Select background during install

2012-08-31 Thread Matthew Ames
Public bug reported:

This isn't so much a bug, more a cool idea taken from here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/z3s57/community_contest_wallpapers_landed_in_ubuntu_1210/c61f3ah

I lack the chops myself to get this working, but I think it would excite
users to be able to change their background during the install, updating
the one on the live cd/usb and then setting it as the background when
the users logs in. This would be a nice thing to do while the installer
is ticking away and the user is idle.

[Bug 1016423] [NEW] FORMAT option should be removed from mounted devices on the launcher

2012-06-22 Thread Matthew Ames
Public bug reported:

It is way too simple to format a mounted usb drive from the launcher.
At the moment the right click options contain Open, Format and Eject in
that order.

I believe that format should be removed as it is way too easy to click
by mistake; it sits inbetween two of the most common actions which means
it's very easy to click by mistake when clicking either of the other two
menu items.

I have just tested it, however, and it hasn't done anything, so I guess
that's a bug in itself.

I also feel it might be pertinant to rename it to something like wipe
data as format isn't a very well known phrase amongst new users.
