Can you still reproduce the error with 7.0 in 20.04 LTS?

Unfortunately, the NWChem forum seems gone, along with the patch, unless
it got merged into the code since.

Well that fix got merged a year ago - resource-agents on bionic is at
4.1.0~rc1 - I guess due to some unfortunate timing WRT the bionic
freeze, but upstream has 4.1.1 and doesn't it make sense to either pull
in the above PR or the 4.1.1 changes (after review?).

to our clients if enterprise software stacks like Postgres on Pacemaker

Or was this analyzed and considered to be not a bug and/or not a big

[Bug 1688613] Re: pgsql RA has problems with pacemaker version

2017-06-23 Thread Michael Banck
Sorry that you had to do work now, but I wrote in comment #4:

"About later versions, my understanding is that the resource-agents
source package was neglected for years in Debian until a colleague of
mine updated it about a year ago. So the non-LTS releases after trusty
likely have the same issues, but they are EOL. xenial has 3.9.7 which is
from 2016 and is fine."

That was a bit convoluted, but has the same conclusion you arrived at I
think.

Also note that I posted a debdiff, so packaging should be mostly dealt
with.

I built the package on trusty and tested it on my 2-node virt-manager
Pacemaker test-system. I understand that this might not be enough, but
note that you really need a full two-node corosync/pacemaker setup to
reproduce the bug and test the updated package. I am happy to offer
assistance here if neeeded.

[Bug 1688613] Re: pgsql RA has problems with pacemaker version

2017-05-30 Thread Michael Banck
Attached is an updated debdiff with dep3 header.

** Patch added: "updated debdiff with DEP3"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resource-agents/+bug/1688613/+attachment/4886061/+files/resource-agents_3.9.3+git20121009-3ubuntu3.debdiff

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ The pgsql Pacemaker resource agent
+ (/usr/lib/ocf/resource.d/heartbeat/pgsql from the resource-agents
+ package) implements a Pacemaker Master/Slave set. Besides regular
+ actions lke starting/stopping/monitoring the resource, this also
+ includes monitoring of the transaction log position on each node and
+ assigning a score to a node and implamenting promote/demote actions. In
+ the case of failed monitoring of the Master, Pacemaker may decide to
+ failover to a Slave based on the Slave's score.
+
+ Due to version skew in 14.04 between the version of Pacemaker (1.1.10)
+ and resource-agents (3.9.3), the Pacemaker output of various status
+ commands is slightly different than what the pgsql resource agent
+ expects, and parses it wrong. In particular, since Pacemaker 1.1.8, the
+ so-called instance number is no longer appended to the resource name
+ (like pgsql:1) if the property globally-unique is set to false.
+
+ This leads to the following two problems:
+
+ - The call to crm_attribute fails as it appended the instance number to
+ the resource name. It first tries to read the current score, but as the
+ requested resource name:instance does not exist, gets back an error
+ message and subsequently leaves the score of the Standby at the default
+ of 1000 and not at 100 as it should be.
+
+ To wit:
+
+ # crm_attribute -l reboot -N h1db2 -n "master-pgsql:1" -G -q
+ Error performing operation: No such device or address
+ # crm_attribute -l reboot -N h1db2 -n "master-pgsql" -G -q
+ 100
+
+ - The output of crm_mon no longer includes a colon, so the resource
+ agent on the Standby believes no Master is present and is not able to
+ get the Master's transaction log position.
+
+ To wit:
+
+ # crm_mon -n1 | grep Master
+ pgsql   (ocf::heartbeat:pgsql): Master
+ # crm_mon -n1 | tr -d "\t" | grep Master
+ pgsql(ocf::heartbeat:pgsql):Master
+
+ The pgsql resource agent's original grep was running 'grep -q
+ "^${RESOURCE_NAME}:.* Master"' (where $RESSOURCE_NAME=pgsql) on the last
+ line, which turned up no hits (or rather, a non-zero exit status).
+
+ This gives Pacemaker wrong input to decide in failover situations,
+ resulting in possibly spurious failovers. As Pacemaker is typically
+ deployed in business-critical setups, any unneeded failover implies a
+ (possibly short but) unwanted downtime. Fixing them will make it
+ possble to use PostgreSQL streaming replication in a high-availability
+ fashion on 14.04.
+
+ The problems have since been fixed in the upstream resource-agents
+ repository (https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-agents/). The
+ appropriate upstream commits have been stashed to a single patch.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Setup a two-node PostgreSQL Pacemaker cluster on 14.04 according to e.g.
according to
https://github.com/gocardless/our-postgresql-setup/blob/master/postgresql-cluster-setup.sh
+ Note that gocardless ship a patched version of the pgsql resource agent as
well, so revert commit
https://github.com/gocardless/our-postgresql-setup/commit/2511b9441d43996a3e45604080dedfac9a490c28
or comment out the deployement of the patched pgsql.
+
+ After setup, the score of the Standby will be 1000 with the current
+ resource-agents package, and after installation of the proposed SRU
+ package, it will be 100.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ As the commits are from upstream and fix currenlty broken behaviour in a
+ localized fashion, there should be no regressions.
+
+ The patch has been deployed by our customer for three weeks now and they
+ reported no problems.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ I am happy to answer further questions.

@nacc: Thanks for the comments, but I probably won't have time to work
on the SRU template this week as I'm on vacation, or is there a point
release deadline coming up?

About later versions, my understanding is that the resource-agents

mine updated it about a year ago. So the non-LTS releases after trusty
likely have the same issues, but they are EOL. xenial has 3.9.7 which is

About DEP3 headers, I'll look into it, I didn't do it cause I thought
the other patches did not have headers either, but I guess it makes
sense for an SRU.

[Bug 1688613] [NEW] pgsql RA has problems with pacemaker version

2017-05-05 Thread Michael Banck
Public bug reported:

We were debugging an unexpected failover of a PostgreSQL-9.3 Pacemaker
cluster running on 14.04 LTS at a client. As a timeline, the client put
back the second node (h1db2) into the cluster at around 9:10 AM, and the
unexpected failover occured at 10:32 AM.

What exactly lead to the failover could not be exatly figured out, but
two problems were apparent from the logs:

1. The standby monitor action thought there was no master running:

May 4 09:10:59 h1db2 pgsql(pgsql)[2460]: INFO: Master does not exist.
[Message repeats 175 times]
May 4 10:32:04 h1db2 pgsql(pgsql)[2611]: INFO: Master does not exist.
[...]
May 4 10:32:04 h1db2 pgsql(pgsql)[2611]: INFO: I have a master right.

At this point, Pacemaker decided to promote h1db2.

2. Between 9:10 and 10:32, the score of the standby was -INFINITY,
at10:32 it was then set to the same score as the master (1000) while it
should be 100 for standbys.

Both problems were debugged and traced back to bugs in the pgsql
resource agent version in trusty, which are due to output changes in
newer pacemaker versions (including the one in trusty) and have since
been fixed.

The following git commits from https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-
agents are relevant:

https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-
agents/commit/78ddf466e413d0c1f18f7610cfbd63968b012ce0 fixes the first
issue.

https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-
agents/commit/956244dd05f69bdad979b252a3e359855b88e6bd fixes the second
issue.

However, several other intermediate commits are required on top of the
version in trusty, so the full list we are using is:

956244dd05f69bdad979b252a3e359855b88e6bd
b7911abce27889becc8a4637e003bfcf5ef1b15e (adjusted)

404d205636ad02e09ddffdb9710dd660b8171c6b
ff9f0ed32e64f9be9e57dc712ec241231b04d917
78ddf466e413d0c1f18f7610cfbd63968b012ce0

b7911abce27 needs to be adjusted as it uses a function (exec_with_retry)
which is not available yet, but it (and its first argument) can be
safely removed. Commits 3-5 just keep changing the same line (as does
the last) so the final patch isn't getting any bigger.

The attached patch makes the pgsql resource agent work much better for
us, would it be possible to apply it to the resource-agents package in
trusty?

[Bug 885740] Re: Ghemical Doesn't run under Ubuntu 11.10 (undefined symbol: _ZTIN2sc7RefBaseE)

2011-11-20 Thread Michael Banck
The Debian/Ubuntu libsc-dev packages certainly have bugs which make it
impossible to build ghemical. Ubuntu 11.10 is suffering from Debian Bug
#642668 (fixed in mpqc_2.3.1-9), and the current LP bug #885740, to be
fixed in mpqc_2.3.1-10 in Debian shortly.

After a bug fix for this has been uploaded to Debian, a stable update
for Ubuntu 11.10 should be issued, followed by a rebuild of libghemical
and possibly ghemical as well. After this, ghemical should hopefully
work again in Ubuntu 11.10.

[Bug 885740] Re: Ghemical Doesn't run under Ubuntu 11.10 (undefined symbol: _ZTIN2sc7RefBaseE)

This is a bug in libsc-dev, its sc-config tool does not list the SC
libraries in the sc-config --libs output, which libghemical uses for
linking.

[Bug 665909] Re: osynctool doesn´t show synce -opensnyc-plugin although installed

2010-10-30 Thread Michael Banck
Well, opensync-0.39 which is in 10.10 does not work with synce, so
opensync is pretty much useless in 10.10. This was attempted to roll
back before the release, but there was not enough time left.

Possibly this could be done via -updates or in a point release, I don't
know.

I think the bug title is wrong, as writing a kcal entry is the problem.

In any case, I guess the 0.22 version cannot sync contacts, but this
python backtrace is due to issues with calendar entries.

[Bug 654613] Re: remove packages needing opensync ( 0.30) in maverick

2010-10-05 Thread Michael Banck
libopensync-plugin-syncml cannot be downgraded, as current libsyncml

libopensync-plugin-xmlformat and libopensync-plugin-vformat are shipped
as part of opensync in 0.22, so they can be removed in this case.

[Bug 220583] Re: python 2.5 crashes when running opensync-plugin-google-calendar

2010-10-05 Thread Michael Banck
I looked at this again, and the patch I proposed way back is essentially
reverting the changes between 0.x and 1.0.2 in python-4suite, see
http://www.koders.com/python/fidD0E33E1026DF9689A6701247293F6726D5BBAAEC.aspx?s=xml#L14

I ran the test suite with and without the patch, and it did not matter,
but I cannot really asses whether there are any issues.

Thus, the new configuration is in ~/.opensync-0.22, while the old is

[Bug 218958] [NEW] konversation defaults to #debian/irc.debian.org if kubuntu-default-settings is not installed

2008-04-17 Thread Michael Banck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konversation

01:13 -!- ubuntu (Live session user) [EMAIL PROTECTED] has joined #debian
01:13 * ubuntu found a bug in hardy beta disk
01:13 ubuntu if you install konversation, it comes to #debian with the
ubuntu nickname :D
01:14 azeem ubuntu: as in, default channel is #debian?
01:14 ubuntu yup

It seems konversation connects to #debian/irc.debian.org by default if
installed on non-kubuntu (e.g. Ubuntu LiveCD):

01:29 Ace2016_- its ubuntu live cd with konversation installed
01:30 azeem Ace2016_-: so you manually installed konversation?
01:30 Ace2016_- yup

Maybe just adding a dependency on kubuntu-default-settings might be
enough:

01:33 azeem Ace2016_-: if you try to install kubuntu-default-settings, how
many other packages are getting installed?
01:34 Ace2016_- none other are getting installed

Anyway, I hope this can be fixed for hardy, as Ubuntu users are not
welcome in #debian, and this is probably not going to change, so we
should protect those people from getting there by accident.

Turned it was not an upstream bug in 4suite, John L. Clark completed the

[Bug 215981] [NEW] Package should get removed or renamed

2008-04-11 Thread Michael Banck
Public bug reported:

Starting with version 0.3, the sunbird calendar file format changed from .ics
to the (sqlite based) .sdb, see
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/faq.html#format for further
information.

The opensync-plugin-sunbird package does not support the newer format
and should thus get removed to avoid user confusion. One possible
alternative would be to rename it to opensync-plugin-ics to make clear
it can only be used to sync ics files (in the plugin config, you can
point it at a file).

A plugin supporting the new thunderbird/lightning (and possibly soon
sunbird as well) format is being developped at
http://kaarposoft.dk/bluezync/ but is 0.3x based and not in Debian (yet,
on my TODO), so this should hopefully be back for hardy+1.

[Bug 214083] Re: [FFe request] Please sync opensync_0.22-2 from Debian unstable (main)

2008-04-11 Thread Michael Banck
For google-calendar, it is probably best to take the 1-line patch from
0.19-2ubuntu3; basing it on 0.22-4 (0.22-5 should be disregarded, it was
a bogus/wrong upload).

The real fix appears to be a 3-line port to python-4suite-xml, however
an upstream bug in python-4suite-xml makes that impossible for hardy.

[Bug 214083] [NEW] [FFe request] Please sync opensync_0.22-2 from Debian unstable (main)

2008-04-08 Thread Michael Banck

Rationale for dropping Ubuntu changes:

The python build process got fixed in Debian and now supports multiple
python versions, so the current Ubuntu hardcoding is no longer
necessary. Further, .a/.la files for the python extensions are no
longer shipped. No other Ubuntu changes were present.

  * debian/rules (binary-arch): Tighten shlibs to dh_makeshlibs -V.

 -- Michael Banck [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri, 29 Feb 2008 00:45:57 +0100

Rationale for new upstream version:

opensync-0.19 has been unmaintained upstream for years now and should
not get shipped in a LTS release. opensync-0.22 has been released last
autumn and is the currently recommended version by upstream for
distributions to include, while the opensync-0.3x is still considered
experimental and is discouraged from packaging by upstream.
Opensync-0.22 works fine with kitchensync (universe) and reasonably well
with multisync0.90 and msynctool (both universe as well). Even though
no support for Windows Mobile or Blackberry devices is available in
hardy, shipping opensync-0.22 (and the accompayning plugins in universe)
will give hardy (KDE) users a reasonable syncing experience, compared to
the last couple of Ubuntu releases.

Conducted testing:

The opensync_0.22-2 package has been made available as hardy packages
(together with the plugins and multisync-gui) as PPA at

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/debian-opensync/ubuntu hardy main

for several weeks. User testing has been unconclusive (some success
reports, one failure report). I have verified that kitchensync still
works after upgrading to opensync-0.22. Partial upgrades have not been
extensively tested I believe.

If this FFE is getting accepted, FFEs for the plugins in universe should
get issued accordingly.

Diffstat output (136 files changed, 10434 insertions(+), 34491
deletions(-)) is being attached.

[Bug 79185] Re: MPQC does not support multiprocessor support?

Debian does not have MPI support either, I planned to do it, but never
sat down.

I don't think MPQC is unusable btw, it can still be used sequentially
(and is so by e.g. ghemical).

We really hope to have MPI support for lenny (and now that the gromacs
maintainer joined debichem, who successfully packages gromacs for MPI,
it should be doable).

But I think it is unlikely this will be done in time for hardy.

Hrm, is something actually using this? Or are you planning on writing

If you are an apt Perl hacker, maybe you could review the bindings and
see whether their quality is acceptable.

This is clearly unaccetable for Debian, as they ship iceweasel, not

So is the Depends really the only thing that is needed to make the

so? If that really is the case, I guess that wouldn't hurt much and

Updated opensync packages (from the 0.3x development series) will

As the user databas of 0.2x is incompatible to both what's in gutsy

0.2x series to gutsy makes sense.

When 0.40 gets released and synced to hardy, it might make sense to
backport that for gutsy, but this will probably not happen until late
this year or early 2008.

[Bug 98545] [UVFe Sync Request] multisync0.90 0.91.0-3

2007-03-29 Thread Michael Banck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: multisync0.90

I know this is kinda late, but the current version of the
multisync/opensync GTK GUI in feisty isn't really appropriate for a
release; e.g. it spawns a terminal with $EDITOR to configure syncing
groups.

It has been replaced upstream with a more usable version which is in

Opensync upstream also strongly discourage to use the version currently
in feisty.
