Same with me - and your tip about suspending again and resuming worked
for me, thanks! (thought I had to reboot).

[Bug 1422143] Re: No wifi connection after suspend with systemd due to missing "wpa_cli suspend"

2016-06-20 Thread Michael Bewley
Same issue for me, Dell XPS 13 (2014 I think?), running 16.04 with all
updates. Mark Stosberg's process (#50) fixes it. I realise it's a hack,
but it works - would it make sense to put this in as a fix in the
meantime, given the issue has been open for nearly a year and a half?

[Bug 977639] Re: NetworkManager erroneously reports iwlwifi as disabled by hardware switch

2013-03-05 Thread Michael Bewley
I get the problem as described on Ubuntu 12.04, with a Sony Vaio SVS15116
laptop, and wifi (from lspci):
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6235 (rev 24)

Every time I manually uncheck enable wireless from the networking menu
(default unity setup), it stays greyed out. Sending sudo rfkill unblock
all then disable/reenable networking, it is fixed.

While broken, rfkill list all gives:

0: sony-wifi: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no
1: sony-bluetooth: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
2: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
3: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: yes

The laptop has NO hardware wireless switch, and NO function key
combination for wifi (they rely on a proprietary program in windows to
manage wireless... yuck).

[Bug 958174] Re: Wireless Mouse not registered on Startup or Reboot

2012-10-04 Thread Michael Bewley
Using a fresh install of 12.04 on a 2012 model Sony Vaio SVS15116GG, I had this
same problem - my Logitech MX Anywhere mouse stopped working sometimes. Occurs
after suspend, on fresh boot, etc. It seems fairly unpredictable what causes
it, but sometimes even booting fresh without the receiver plugged in, and then
plugging in (or unplugging/replugging failed).
I was just caught in the situation with unplug/replug not helping, and there
seemed to be no way to get it working again. The suggestion from an earlier
commenter to try unplug/replug after locking the screen worked!

[Bug 799292] [NEW] Banshee window crashes on launch

2011-06-18 Thread Michael Bewley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

Ever since I tried adding a couple of internet radio stations, banshee doesn't
start properly. It seems to launch, but the window is all messed up. It looks
like the window starts, but it starts crashed - it's effectively invisible (can
still see the desktop behind it). If I right click, I can get banshee menu
options (as though the cursor is on some invisible part of the banshee window).
I've tried restarting, reinstalling, deleting the banshee folder in ~/.config.
I don't know what else to try!
The odd thing is I can still play songs etc. through banshee, via the widget
attached to the volume icon. It's obviously related to the display of the
banshee window...

[Bug 799292] Re: Banshee window crashes on launch

2011-06-18 Thread Michael Bewley
Ok, I just managed to partially solve this by finding the keyboard shortcut for
maximise window (alt+F10). While focussed on the crashed banshee, I maximise.
It then appears as normal. When I unmaximise, however, the window vanishes
again.
I'm guessing this isn't a banshee bug, but it's certainly a usability related
problem that this can occur, so please don't just close it!

[Bug 740090] Re: Bluetooth dongle requires restart of bluetooth service

2011-05-03 Thread Michael Bewley
I have two bluetooth dongles:

The one that came with my Logitech MX1000 Mouse and MX5000 keyboard. It
used to work fine (definitely not since Maverick, not sure how long
before that). At the login screen, the mouse worked, but the keyboard
didn't (both paired and trusted). Removing the dongle and replacing it
didn't fix the problem, but if I held the red button in while replacing
it, it works every time.

So, I bought a new bluetooth dongle, thinking it was a wierd logitech
thing. With this one, neither the mouse or keyboard work at login, and I
have to restart the bluetooth service to fix it.

I assume these have the same root cause! Pretty annoying that I have to
dig out an old wired keyboard to get it up and running...

[Bug 776363] [NEW] Bluetooth service needs to be restarted before a Bluetooth dongle works

2011-05-03 Thread Michael Bewley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

I can't turn bluetooth on with a dongle plugged in, unless I issue the command
sudo service bluetooth restart. This occurs when the dongle has been plugged
in on starting up (I need to use a wired keyboard to log in), or when I plug in
the dongle later. The dongle in question is the one attached at the time of the
bug report (which was just after I issued the bluetooth restart command).
This is similar to Bug #762964 and #700292, but it isn't fixed yet with the
latest updates installed (I believe my kernel version is the same as the kernel
updates mentioned that fix it in some instances).
I also had a related problem with a logitech bluetooth dongle (for an MX5000
keyboard), where I discovered a workaround that I had to replug in the dongle
while holding the red button to get it to work (I didn't try the bluetooth
restart command).

I'm aware that I can just add a restart command in the rc.local file,
but I'm trying to use stock ubuntu, as it's now in the league of a
proper commercial OS! Let me know if you need any more info or
troubleshooting steps.

programs), but I still can't adjust the volume.

[Bug 570663] [NEW] USB Sound Card not working in Kubuntu (with Alsa)

2010-04-27 Thread Michael Bewley
Public bug reported:

I had Ubuntu 9.10 with PulseAudio working fine with my Edirol UA-1EX USB
card.

I know Alsa supports my card.

In Kubuntu, it appears as an option (and works) in the phonon
configuration.

It doesn't appear in kmix, and alsamixer says that it has no controls.
Kmix shows my inbuilt card, and even my logitech webcam mic as a USB
soundcard, but not the UA-1EX.

This means that programs that don't use phonon (mythtv, flash in
firefox, etc.) don't work. Happy to do some troubleshooting/testing, but
I'd really like to get this fixed!

[Bug 539879] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000028

2010-03-22 Thread Michael Bewley
Same here - 64 bit ubuntu karmic host, just trying out the beta of lucid
in a Virtualbox session. Was fine until I installed Guest additions -
then forced low graphics mode (couldn't detect or something). This
message popped up shortly after logging in.

Re: [Bug 513186] Re: Ubuntu One Client crashed

2010-01-28 Thread Michael Bewley
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 457147 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/457147

I performed the steps you described, but the files you asked me to attach
don't exist. I let UbuntuOne run for 5 mins or so, then copied 3 files,
waited another couple of minutes. I assume it's just not logged anthing...?

I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. If you
would like to help debug the problem that would be greatly appreciated.
You can do the following in order to provide important details that will
help determine the root cause of this issue?

 1) Quit the Ubuntu One client

 2) Open Applications-Accessories-Terminal, then run the command:
  mv ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log_old mkdir
 ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log

 3) Open (or create if it doesn't exist):
 ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf
Add the following 2 lines to this file and save:
[__main__]
log_level = DEBUG

 4) Restart UbuntuOne Applications-Internet-Ubuntu One

 5) Let Ubuntu One run for a bit, copy some files into your Ubuntu One
Folder. Then attach the following logs to this bug:
 ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon.log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log
 /syncdaemon-exceptions.log

The issue you are having with logging into the web interface is a known
issue and the Ubuntu One Team is working on it as we speak. Here is a
 workaround in the meantime.
Upon receiving OpenID failed error with 'nonce' info go to
 https://one.ubuntu.com/
The login attempt _was_ successful, the problem is that the page is not
 redirected properly

Thank you for filing this bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 432569] Re: Ubuntu One does not sync all files

2010-01-22 Thread Michael Bewley
I also have this issue - I had it in jaunty, and i stil have it after
upgrading to karmic. 5.3GB synced out of 30.9 (i'm paying for the 50GB
storage). I leave my PC on as a server, logging out/in probably once or
twice a day. It's been like this for maybe a couple of months? I went
through a bug fix with a developer, who's conclusion was it all looks
good - just wait and it should eventually sync. It didn't, and it
doesn't look like it's going to. Help?

[Bug 90570] gnome-volume-control crashed with SIGSEGV after removal of creative audigy 2 zs notebook pcmcia soundcard

2007-03-07 Thread Michael Bewley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I had removed the audigy 2 zs notebook pcmcia soundcard while the volume
control program was open. Switching between my laptop's inbuilt and the
zs caused a crash (the zs didn't disappear as a device, just showed an
empty volume control, then crashed).
