[Bug 1194351] [NEW] CU_basic_show_failures() fails to properly run tests
Public bug reported: When I am building a test for my own library, I notice that the test binaries generated linking against the version of CUnit in the main repo doesn't actually run any tests, but does give an error code which is apparently detached from error messages. [Bug 244721] [NEW] Evolution will only synchronize contacts to Palm Centro
Public bug reported: With a Palm Centro smart phone, I have enabled conduits for files, contacts, calendar, todo, and memos, yet only the contacts actually synchronize. [Bug 211809] [NEW] Tilda changes current workspace when opened under Compiz-Fusion
Public bug reported: So I start tilda, and after a while I notice that when I hit F12 to open tilda, it changes which desktop I'm on. Here's my config: * Compiz-Fusion set up with 2x2 workspaces on a single virtual desktop. * Tilda opens from the left side instead of the top. (I'll try to attach my tilda config) When opened, tilda forces the current workspace to be switched to a left-most workspace, regardless of whether it's on the top or on the bottom. [Bug 104182] Re: Adept allows removal of essential packages without warning
Actually, this article is kinda wrong on two fronts. First, the assumption is made that removing a package shouldn't remove all of the packages that depend on that package. If you remove ALSA, sorry, but everything that depends on ALSA should also be removed. That's not a bug, that's the package manager trying to make sure that it's keeping your system in good working condition. Second, the assumption is made that just because kubuntu-desktop is being removed that every package included in that meta-package is also being removed. This assumption is false, as if you remove kubuntu- desktop as a side-effect of removing another package (e.g. kdm) only kdm and the meta-package kubuntu-desktop will be removed. Everything else stays put. This is nowhere near the issue that it is being made out to be in this forums post. Also, if the user doesn't understand what they're removing, they shouldn't be removing it. Our alert to the user should probably say something to this affect so that it would remind users of sane system management practices. Adept is not the Add/Remove Programs functionality that you see in Windows, adept is a package manager that can manage *all* of the packages on your system. If a user wants add/remove programs functionality, they should be in Add/Remove Programs (e.g. adept_installer) and not in the Adept Manager. Using adept_manager is a system management task that needs to be taken seriously like any other system management task (e.g. configuring a firewall, backing up data, configuring user access and system services). It might be a good idea for us to stress that users only use adept_manager for things where they're managing their system, not when they're just trying to check out and/or remove software. -- Adept allows removal of essential packages without warning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104182 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Here, have a patch. This was being caused by markInstall and markRemove being called on invalid packages. The simple fix is to add a conditional around the calls to markInstall and markRemove to determine whether or not the package is valid so that the mark* methods aren't being called on invalid packages. [Bug 104182] Re: Adept allows removal of essential packages without warning
Agreed, this is an issue that needs some sorting. I'll see what I can do over the next week to get this one rolling. I'm also wondering if this should be considered somewhat long the lines of a security issue. It's not a big security issue, but I could see how someone could present a user with a simple shell script telling them that their script would do something like install multimedia codecs, only to find out that it removed libc or something ridiculous like that. -- Adept allows removal of essential packages without warning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104182 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155681] python-mode seems broken in emacs22
Public bug reported: Okay, so if I just load emacs22, and I type `M-x python-mode` I get Cannot open load file: python-mode. If I `M-x load-library^Mpython` then I can get a python-mode that seems to be drastically limited when compared to what folks know and love in python-mode under emacs21. All that python-mode seems to include is font-lock-mode (syntax highlighting) functionality... whereas emacs21's python-mode had scope helpers and such built in. [Bug 58790] Re: kmix: dcop calls to adjust volume should affect user-set master channel
** Description changed: When the user sets a channel as the master channel in KMix by using Right Click - Select Master Channel, kmix's dcop calls for changing volume and muting should respect that. Currently, no matter what, those dcop calls affect the left-most channel in kmix's display. This is a problem for some sound cards, where the left most mixer is not a master control. For example, my left-most is PCM, which does very little. I have to set kmix to my Front mixer, which is equivalent to master. However, my laptop volume keys still control PCM instead of Front, because (after investigation) the kmix dcop calls kmilo uses are ignoring my selections. - This affects both Dapper and Edgy. + This affects both Dapper and Edgy and Gutsy[1]. + + ~ + 1. [Bug 139701] Under Gutsy on System76 Darter, battery state information is often incorrect.
Public bug reported: Sporadically throughout the day I'll notice eratic behavior from the power-management software under Kubuntu (and I've noticed the same issue on GNOME as well as KDE). Per the advice of #ubuntu-kernel folks, I looked into /proc/acpi/battery and found that the battery is showing information that does not seem correct. I've also noticed that in syslog (soon to be attached) there is a keycode error message that I'm getting whenever I unplug and plug in the A/C adapter. Other things I've noticed that may or may not be related is that coming back from suspension does not seem to work--it did work before--and the temperature that is also in /proc/acpi seems to bounce back and forth between a temperature that sounds about right, and a temperature that doesn't seem very right at all. I have noticed that this bug seems relatively similiar to bug #129388 and bug #116185. I do not know which version of the kernel started this problem, it has been consistent since I got the machine and upgraded it to gutsy (around very late August). I'm attaching several files per the requirements of the Kernel Bug Team, and also some advice from folks in #ubuntu-kernel. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Under Gutsy on System76 Darter, battery state information is often incorrect. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139701 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 117363] Re: Kontact/KMail recieved SIGSEGV while deleting message...
I've noticed some additional patterns here. First, this seems to happen only when kmail is telling me that there are more messages in a folder than there are on the filesystem. Second, if you delete the messages on the filesystem and then restart kontact/kmail, when you try to view the folder it seems to correct itself. My guess is that the bug is actually happening before the crash when the index first gets out of whack, and then afterwards it's just crashing because it's not able to handle an index that disagrees with the filesystem. -- Kontact/KMail recieved SIGSEGV while deleting message... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for kdepim in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 136381] Re: Adept doesn't show changelogs.
We need to compare how adept gets the changelog to how synaptic gets the changelog. Currently Adept actually just constructs the URL on the fly and then fetches it via HTTP. It seems like Gutsy has a lot of issues where this is showing up blank, but I don't know if that's because of how the changelogs are organized on the server differently for development versions, or if it's because the URLs are being constructed incorrectly. It shouldn't be too hard to troubleshoot this one. Okay, so I found a pattern, and a TERRIBLE UGLY HORRIBLE workaround. Here are the steps to replicate this problem: 1) Make sure basket is installed. If basket is installed and normally started up with kontact, I would guess that it would crash if you tried to start kontact now. 2) Start basket 3) Start kontact 4) Kill basket 5) Click the Baskets icon inside of kontact. 6) Crash and burn. My work-around is to simply start basket before kontact, and leave it running. Here's a patch for this issue. After investigating the work necessary for this fix, I've discovered that it would be just as simple to call dpkg directly rather than using another script to do this. I know this seems like duplication of work, and I greatly apologize for this, but in the interest of reducing dependencies and keeping things simple, I've got this working in C++. [Bug 123635] Re: Please sync adept (2.1.3) from Debian (unstable)
As a contributor to adept, I would second a serious use of caution in any sort of syncing. If we have a new version of apt-front to work with, I would urge an approach of a very supervised and tested merge more than a sync. We do have extensive changes to adept including crash bug fixes with the upgrader, the inclusion of the kubuntu logo for supported packages, changelog viewing support, and quite a few more grab-bag bug fixes. Some of these bug fixes have greatly changed how some things happen in adept. The feature I'm working on now for fixing the dpkg locks is one of the most complained about bugs and it requires some serious tinkering in how adept opens the dpkg database for use with the adept UI. Let's please make sure we've got a good reason for why we need to do this. As I stated previously, if an apt or apt-front change requires some updating of adept, I'll see if I can put some time into helping after I'm done with the bug I'm currently on. [Bug 119089] Re: Unable to fetch the Developer Changelog
Here's a patch to fix the proxy bit. In order to fix this bug I also had to fix bug #85056. This patch fixes both this bug (119089) and the bug where we had one package fetching the changelog for another package (85056). [Bug 112068] Re: Feisty: Konqueror stops working when switching network interfaces
I've been trying to get my suspend/resume to work again for some time. I recently discovered that linuxant's driverloader (version 2.36) was the problem for me on this 2.6.20 kernel. I tried just switching back to bcm43xx driver in 2.6.20, and it seems like I can suspend/resume again, but there are other issues. All this to say that when I came back from suspend, konqueror wouldn't talk over the network. Pinging worked, telnet to port 80 worked, Firefox (both 64 and 32 bit) worked, konversation worked, kopete worked, but konqueror did not work. I didn't even change interface names. When I was under driverloader it was eth1, and now that I'm under bcm43xx it's still eth1. ** Changed in: knetworkmanager (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- Feisty: Konqueror stops working when switching network interfaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112068 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
