[Bug 365570] Re: apt-get http_proxy overwrites Acquire::http::Proxy settings
@Eric Angell, Respectfully, I disagree. I am in the process of setting up 10 Ubuntu servers for various tasks. My company has a site wide proxy, and this is the ONLY way to get a connection into or out of the building for all protocols and ports. (There are various reasons for this, and it isn't something I can change or even recommend changing. I have to deal with it). As such, to provide a convenient environment on my servers, I have configured them with the http_proxy environment variable, and everything works great. The only thing that does NOT work the way that it should is apt. I have 10 servers. Each of which are configured to pull updates daily. While that isn't a huge amount of data to download, it is enough that I'd much rather have a local mirror. Towards that end, I've installed apt-cacher-ng. I set the proxy information in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d, as this is the only program out of all the dozens of programs on the machine that I DON'T want talking to the company proxy. The environment variable should be for the general purpose usage of the system. In the general case, all programs should direct their web traffic through the server listed in the http_proxy environment variable. However, any program that has been given a specific proxy to follow in its own local configuration system should do so. So since apt overwrites its internally configured proxy with the global environment proxy, and apt clearly ignores the no_proxy environment variable (I have tested this throughly. Apt is clearly ignoring no_proxy), I am left few options (suggestions welcome here...) other than to configure each application on each server to use the corporate proxy, and then configure apt to use the apt-cacher-ng proxy, as opposed to configuring the system wide variable and then apt. In effect, this behavior is causing me a lot of unnecessary work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365570 Title: apt-get http_proxy overwrites Acquire::http::Proxy settings -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This also affects me. It should be fairly simple to fix, but I don't know off the top of my head how to do so. I dont know. I haven't had a reason to reinstall any of my machines, and i haven't seen a grub 2 update for a while. [Bug 341006] Re: ease cloning of virtual images by disabling mac address rules
Just my two cents here: I ran into this issue last week. I was attempting to clone a virtual machine on a remote server to create a new VM. The lag between my location and the server is big enough to make doing installations remotely a pain, but the commandline clone functionality is superb. When I cloned the template (which is so named because it is the template for new virtualmachines on this server), and booted the new vm, there was no network connectivity. I logged into the machine through the Virtual Machine Manager utility and removed the udev rules for the network card, but it was still a good half hour searching around to find out why it didn't work by itself. Thanks for making such good tools, though. -- ease cloning of virtual images by disabling mac address rules https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341006 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 353833] Re: HP NW8440 does not resume from timed suspend, will wake on manual resume.
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 307090 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/307090 I'm not sure that its correct to say that I can manually suspend my machine. When I issue the suspend command, my monitor and sound turn off, but my machine is clearly still running. I installed the kernel mentioned above. Same results for the testing script. [Bug 353833] Re: HP NW8440 does not resume from timed suspend, will wake on manual resume, jaunty beta testing
I ran the script again, this time, the first test fails to have any results. The second test turns off my monitor, and sound, but my machine is clearly still running. The only way to bring it back to a usable state is to hold the power button until it shuts off and then boot again. So, I don't know if I still have this issue or not. [Bug 509919] [NEW] Hundreds of packages depend on libthai and libthai-data
Public bug reported: I live in the United States and speak only English and Spanish (somewhat). The recent update to libthai and libthai data due to arbitrary code execution via long strings prompted me to try removing libthai and libthai-data. Given that I don't speak the language, and know with high certainty that no one who uses my machine will speak it, there is no reason for it to be on my machine. Its not the space that it takes that bothers me (Though, it would be nice to reclaim the space regardless), but that a package I don't need on my machine has a security flaw that would enable an attacker to compromise my machine. I recognize that people who do speak the Thai language need this library, but given that I chose my language as English at install, isn't there anyway to remove language packages that I didn't select/don't need? [Bug 480210] [NEW] Connect to server password dialog does not indicate which server is being connected to, which username is being used, or which folder will be accessed.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gvfs Consider the use case where a user is attempting to connect to two different servers, with two different accounts, and two different passwords. The duplicate bug is on a second laptop that has the same configuration as the origional bug. Difference being that the hanging pidgin was installed through the install disk, while the crashing pidgin was upgraded inline from jaunty.
