2018-07-11 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Well, the patch, and an updated version has been submitted to the linux-usb
list, but sadly most it is not getting much attention. This is the link to the
most recent discussion on each patch:
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg170611.html,

https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg170567.html and

I don't know how should I proceed at this point.

[Bug 1779173] [NEW] Dell D6000 dock lacks multicast Ethernet functionality

2018-06-28 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Dell D6000 exposes a CDC_NCM device for Ethernet traffic. However,
multicast Ethernet traffic is not processed making IPv6 not functional.
Other services, like mDNS used for LAN service discovery are also
hindered.

The actual reason is that CDC_NCM driver was not processing requests to
filter (admit) multicast traffic. I provide two patches to the linux
kernel that admit all Ethernet multicast traffic whenever a multicast
group is being joined.

The solution is not optimal, as it makes the system receive more traffic
than that strictly needed, but otherwise this only happens when the
computer is connected to a dock and thus is running on AC power. I
believe it is not worth the hassle to join only the requested groups.
This is the same that is done in the CDN_ETHER driver.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

driver_info"

Hi. I'm also experiencing the mentioned freezes, usually during boot.
I have tried the proposed kernel (3.19.0-29 up to commit 44d2345), and I'm
still experiencing freezes with it.
Also, 3.19.0-28 is working fine for me too.

I can help with the bisection, but probably, only one kernel a day :(

[Bug 801153] [NEW] Cron starts too early and does not work for user accounts when using NIS

2011-06-23 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

In oneiric, and as fasr as I can tell also in lucid, cron starts before
nis in the boot sequence, and thus cron jobs of users with nis accounts
are ignored. The problem is fixed if cron is manually restarted after
boot is finished.

[Bug 673302] Re: appmenu-gtk breaks dynamically created Emacs Gtk+ menus

2011-03-24 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Ok. I don't have access to a natty box right now, but this is what I've
done to reproduce the problem:

a) Launch the alpha-3 natty live-cd inside Virtualbox (with plenty of RAM)
b) Open a terminal and install both emacs and auctex (sudo apt-get install
emacs auctex)
c) Launch emacs and open a new Latex file.

Expected results:
Three new menus should show: Preview, Latex and Command

Results:
None of the three new menus appeared.

Extra info:
If I remove the menubar from the panel and repeat the procedure, the three
menus appear inside the emacs window menubar, but they are empty (they should
not). Maybe this is the root of the bug.

Hope this helps.

The bug is still valid in natty.

Some dynamically generated menus, like those added by auctex when
editing LaTeX files fail to appear.

[Bug 641259] Re: grub does not appear to load after maverick post-beta install

2010-10-06 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
@Mark, I posted my comment as a suggestion to improve the release notes
so as people with affected computers can downgrade grub-pc to grub
*before* updating to maverick, so that they are not affected by the bug.

In any case, you can fix your installation using the lucid alternate
image, select recover system and run a shell in the maverick
installation. From that shell you can replace grub-pc with grub. Then
you exit the shell and select install boot manager (or something like
that) in the menu. Not simple for the average user, but it is faster
than installing lucid in the disk again.

HTH.

[Bug 641259] Re: grub does not appear to load after maverick post-beta install

As the old grub package works good with this systems, maybe it should be
mentioned in the release notes that installing it before the update can
prevent this bug from happening.

[Bug 405223] Re: Can not record sound with the internal microphone

2010-03-17 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

This is on a Sony Vaio P21Z with codec Realtek ALC262.

The sound from the internal microphone is not routed properly as it only
records amplified static noise. As there is no specific info for this
model in hda_intel, I have tried forcing all the models listed in
  http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt
for this codec. However, none of them were able to route sound
  correctly.

I have verified that the microphone works properly under Windows in the
  same computer.

[Bug 512673] Re: firefox: since 3.6 replaced 3.5, haven't been able to start it more than once

2010-01-27 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
After much trial and error disabling extensions I'm able to use firefox again
after disabling the 'Weave' extension.
No matter if I use the 1.0r2 or the 1.0r4 version, firefox does not start for
me if I have it enabled.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 405197] Re: Globetrotter HSUPA Modem not detected unless warm boot from Windows

2009-12-17 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Is there any chance for this patch to be added to the lucid kernel? I
realize that there is little hope for it to be released in a karmic
update, but it is not such an invasive patch for it not to be tried in
lucid.

[Bug 405197] Re: Globetrotter HSUPA Modem not detected unless warm boot from Windows

2009-12-16 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
This patch from upstream author fixes the problem. I have tested it
against Ubuntu's kernel version 2.6.31-17 in karmic and seems to work
properly.

commit 4c5de8050042e80799b86d346a29f5cc0f7438ce
Author: Mattia Dongili malat...@linux.it

sony-laptop: enumerate rfkill devices using SN06

SN06 makes sure we get back a longer buffer which seems to be necessary
going forward as the SNC devices describes more and more devices (or
features more precisely). Moreover SN06 should be called with only the
descriptor offset to make sure we hit the rfkill controlling function
(F124 or F135) with a 0 argument to get a full list of features.

[Bug 405197] [NEW] Globetrotter HSUPA Modem not detected unless warm boot from Windows

2009-07-27 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

This bug is similar to #364678, but the fix in kernel 2.6.28-14 does not
work here.

Also, the hardware is slightly different. In this case this is on a Vaio
P21Z with a Globetrotter Modem with product id 7601. This device
incorporates not only a HSDPA modem but a GPS device. They appear
correctly as serial devices, but only after warm booting from windows.
If you cold-boot the device does not appear in a lsusb listing.

[Bug 405223] [NEW] Can not record sound with the internal microphone

2009-07-27 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

This is on a Sony Vaio P21Z with codec Realtek ALC262.

The sound from the internal microphone is not routed properly as it only
records amplified static noise. As there is no specific info for this
model in hda_intel, I have tried forcing all the models listed in
http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt
for this codec. However, none of them were able to route sound
correctly.

I have verified that the microphone works properly under Windows in the
same computer.

[Bug 321485] Re: Motorola E770V does not show up in Network-Manager 0.7 as a GPRS modem

2009-01-28 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
This is the diff to 10-modem.fdi.

Please note that I know almost nothing about its syntax. I just added my
model where it looked the right place.

In any case, I tested that it works and that I can connect to the
Internet with this configuration.

[Bug 321485] [NEW] Motorola E770V does not show up in Network-Manager 0.7 as a GPRS modem

2009-01-26 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-info

Motorola E770V is not recognized by nm as a 3G/GPRS capable modem.
Adding its product id to 10-modem.fdi fixes this issue and makes it
work.

This is dmesg output (I'll attach lshal output too)

[Bug 147540] Re: Should recommend installing imagemagick

2008-10-28 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Sure it is. The package is still lacking a proper dependency on
imagemagick, that it needs to work correctly.

Maybe imagemagick is being pulled in a default install by another
dependency, but this is not a reason to not make libgsf-bin explicitly
depend on it.

HTH.

Please, disregard my previous comment. I feel embarrassed.

Problem was I was not aware of the top menu in the xnest window with the
option to save the profile.

Sorry for the noise.

[Bug 138846] Re: ioprio_set shouldn't need CAP_SYS_ADMIN to lower IO priorities

2008-08-29 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
It seems that under kernel 2.6.27 ioprio_set no longer required admin
privileges to set the IDLE class.

I'll close this bug now as fixed.

[Bug 138249] Re: trackerd should be run with ionice -c 3

Well, just FWI. In Intrepid this will no longer be an issue, since
IOPRIO_CLASS_IDLE does no longer need CAP_SYS_ADMIN capability.

See #138846.

[Bug 59616] Re: keyboard not working after logging in via gdm

2008-02-12 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
I have found the reason for the bug in my machine.

Somehow the slow keys feature of the keyboard was activated. I don't
know how that happened, but that was the reason why disabling the a11y
plugin did work around the problem. Sorry for the noise.

Maybe the rest of the people should recheck their keyboard accessibility
settings.

[Bug 59616] Re: keyboard not working after logging in via gdm

2008-02-01 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
The problem seems related to the a11y plugin. Deactivating it manually

gconftool-2 -s /apps/gnome-settings-daemon/plugins/a11y-keyboard/active
-t bool false

fixes the problem for me. If I reactivate it, the keyboard stops working
again.

This is happening here too since the latest gnome-settings-daemon
update. In fact, removing gnome-settings-daemon solves the keyboard
problem (dpkg --purge --force-depends gnome-settings-daemon).

[Bug 185098] dellBiosUpdate tries to open nonexistant file /sys/class/firmware/dell_rbu/loading

2008-01-22 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

When trying to update a Dell Bios image the dellBiosUpdate command fails
with the following error:

Supported RBU type for this system: (MONOLITHIC)
Using RBU v2 driver. Initializing Driver.
Setting RBU type in v2 driver to: MONOLITHIC
Prep driver for data load.

An Error occurred. The Error message is:
No such file or directory
(...)

Running the command under strace shows the following error repeteadly ocurring
access(/sys/class/firmware/dell_rbu/loading, F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file
or directory)

That file does not exist, but /sys/class/firmware/firmware-
dell_rbu/loading does. So I think the path used in libsmbios should get
updated.

This is with latest hardy kernel.
