[Bug 990102] Re: /var/log/upstart is missing

2012-05-02 Thread Mike Conigliaro
For what it's worth, I only created this directory once, and it hasn't
disappeared yet. If some cron job or logrotate config was the culprit, I
imagine the directory would eventually disappear again.

[Bug 990629] Re: Init script missing

2012-04-28 Thread Mike Conigliaro
"For various reasons," eh? ;-)

Thanks, I already created my own init script. I guess I was just
surprised that I needed to do that, and I'm even more surprised that I
was the first person to report this as a bug.

[Bug 990102] [NEW] /var/log/upstart is missing

2012-04-27 Thread Mike Conigliaro
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure if this is the right place to submit this bug, but I
created a new EC2 instance last night using the official Canonical AMI
for Precise (ami-a29943cb), and I found that /var/log/upstart was
missing. This means Upstart jobs won't be able to log anything, and
results in the following daily error from logrotate:

/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:
error: error accessing /var/log/upstart: No such file or directory
error: upstart:1 glob failed for /var/log/upstart/*.log
error: found error in /var/log/upstart/*.log , skipping

The fix is simple:

mkdir /var/log/upstart

[Bug 562388] [NEW] Authentication failure on successful login when using LDAP authentication

2010-04-13 Thread Mike Conigliaro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-ldap

I've configured LDAP authentication for my ubuntu 9.10 clients using the
following (recommended?) method:

# /usr/sbin/auth-client-config -p lac_ldap -t nss
# echo libpam-runtime libpam-runtime/profiles multiselect unix, ldap,
consolekit | /usr/bin/debconf-set-selections
# /usr/sbin/pam-auth-update --package

Now LDAP authentication works fine, but I see authentication failures
like the following in my logs:

Apr 13 15:35:38 example01 sshd[15860]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication
failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=example.com user=mikec
Apr 13 15:35:38 example01 sshd[15860]: Accepted password for mikec from 1.2.3.4
port 49507 ssh2
Apr 13 15:35:38 example01 sshd[15860]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened
for user mikec by (uid=0)

As you can see, a failure message is always logged even though
authentication was successful. Is this the expected behavior?

I'm not a PAM expert, so I don't completely understand what's happening
in /etc/pam.d/common-auth, but since this only occurs for LDAP users, my
hunch is that local auth is attempted first (which fails and logs the
above error message), then LDAP auth is attempted and succeeds. If
that's the case, is there a way to suppress the failure from the local
auth attempt? This is important for packages like fail2ban which rely on
these log messages. At the moment, it's possible to get locked out of a
machine by having too many *successful* logins.

[Bug 505836] Re: Should create /usr/share/java/webapps ?

2010-03-05 Thread Mike Conigliaro
just to clarify, /usr/share/jetty/webapps is referenced by jetty.xml,
but /usr/share/java/webapps is referenced by jetty-shared-webapps.xml.
if both are configured, does one override the other, or do they both
work the same way?

[Bug 107706] need option to disable rich text by default

2007-04-19 Thread Mike Conigliaro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kopete

since rich text doesnt work with the spell checker (and i find the spell
checker a lot more useful than rich text), it would be nice if there was
an option to disable rich text by default. you can turn it off per chat
session, and kopete will remember this, but its annoying to have to do
it every time you get an IM from a new person.
