Ubuntu Mate 20200709 iso still has the issue when trying to install with BIOS. Can confirm on clean install of Ubuntu MATE daily 2020-04-07. Believe typo in orginial bug desciption. Should be sudo smbpasswd -a in order for command to work. Only until sudo apt install samba does the issue resolve. Not found anymore .crash files. But I have found a workaround. To reproduce the fix: - Boot up the xubuntu machine in QuickEMU (Martin Wimpress QEMU script) - Get to the login screen - Change the session from Xubuntu to Xfce - Type in password and Enter and the desktop appears as normal.
