[Bug 653327] Re: f-spot crashes when image has wrong date
FWIW I'm also getting this crash with *all* of my photos taken from my camera. Attached is one image that causes a problem. Shotwell seems to open the images fine though. This crash has made f-spot completely and totally unusable for me. ** Attachment added: CRW_2607.CRW https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot/+bug/653327/+attachment/1737131/+files/CRW_2607.CRW -- f-spot crashes when image has wrong date https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/653327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 653327] Re: f-spot crashes when image has wrong date
Oh, one more thing. My problem is that F-spot crashes on *import* as opposed to importing fine and crashing later (as outlined in the gnone- bugs #633020 here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=633020 ) Basically, I open f-spot, click import, select the directory on the hard drive the photos are in and it crashes before it can even display one thumbnail in the import window. Interestingly, if I try to import directly from the camera, it will display lots of 'blank' thumbnails in the import screen, all with dates 01/01/0001 and not crash. I am hesitant to go ahead and import these though, in case it does cause f-spot to crash later as obviously f-spot is having a hard time handling these images. I checked that the import directory I was using that was causing the crash didn't have any strange characters or spaces, in case something wasn't escaped properly, but no dice, the crash still happens regardless of the directory name. Also, I was able to import jpg files from another camera with no problems, it appears to be confined to this camera/exif-set/file-format only. F-spot was working perfectly before I upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10. Is there some older version of f-spot i can downgrade to to restore functionality? [Bug 548992] Re: Wireless connection frequently drops [deauthenticating by local choice (reason=3)]
After a couple other folks said they had luck by getting rid of network- manager, I figured I'd give wicd another shot. I removed network manager, rebooted, manually configured a wired network, then installed wicd. I've been going on a few days now with no disconnects, so perhaps something is amiss with network-manager. That being said, wicd doesn't seem to work 100% either in that it never shows me other wireless networks. When I first installed wicd, it showed me a list of wireless networks and I picked mine and put in my WPA passphrase. After rebooting, wicd kept prompting me for my password. I got around that by adding exec wicd to /etc/init/networking.conf. Wicd always connects to my network on reboot without issue, but if I try to scan for other networks, it says none are found. As long as it connects to my network, I'm okay, but it's still not right. As a side note, as root if I do an iwlist scan, I get an error message about resource temporarily unavailable. If I do an iwlist scan as a non-root user, it returns my network, but no others. At least I have a usable wireless connection now. I may go back now and try to build an old otusdriver, as the ar9170usb driver still doesn't support n speeds. -- Wireless connection frequently drops [deauthenticating by local choice (reason=3)] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548992 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 569399] [NEW] internal mic does not work on Fujitsu P7120
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio On my P7120, running 10.04 final RC, my internal microphones (stereo mic) do not give any signal in sound properties, nor do they record in any application. They work fine in Windows, so the problem is software/driver related. This seems to be first reported in bug #62891 however that bug was marked invalid, seemingly due to a number of problems reported in the one bug report, many of which were resolved. This one was never resolved however. I *did* find the following on the redhat forums, I'm not sure how to implement it due to us using pulseaudio rather than alsa, but hopefully if someone could give me some tests to perform using this info, it would be most appreciated! From: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=471331 -QUOTE- Brad Rubenstein 2010-02-08 18:46:26 EST Workaround: I am using FC12 and its included alsa driver (1.0.22) on my Fujitsu P7120. I can use Skype with the built-in mic and headphones by using: In /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: options snd-hda-intel model=test Then before running skype: % amixer --stdin EOF sset LOUT2 0% mute sset LOUT1 60% unmute sset MIC2 60% unmute cap sset 'Input Source' 'MIC2 pin' sset 'MIC2 pin mode' 'Mic 80pc bias' EOF That seems to effectively mute the onboard speakers (LOUT2), unmute the headphones (LOUT1), and unmute/capture the onboard mic (MIC2). I don't know how to tell alsa to use this configuration by default, and I don't know how to have alsa automatically mute the speakers and unmute the headphones when I plug headphones in, and do the reverse when I unplug them. I bet it's possible (via .asoundrc?), and I'm just ignirrint. I'm not sure which pin complex the Mic jack is connected to on the P7120 (I suspect MIC1). -END QUOTE- ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: pulseaudio 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.32-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic i686 AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. [Bug 514158] Re: master ALSA volume slider does not affect actual volume
Thanks Eric, I followed the instructions to get pulseaudio just working on my PCM channel and it seems to have done the trick. I think the main problem is still in the ALSA driver due to the non-working ALSA master slider, however after stuffing around with ALSA conf files too long, it's good to see that pulseaudio can work around ALSA's shortcomings. I still wait for the day when we have a stable, unified linux sound architecture. [Bug 514158] [NEW] master ALSA volume slider does not affect actual volume
Public bug reported: I have a Fujitsu P5020 laptop running Karmic. When I adjust my pulseaudio volume, the output from either speakers or headphones if they're plugged in is constant, and not affected by the pulseaudio slider until it reaches around 80%. Further investigation reveals that the ALSA master channel does nothing, whereas the ALSA headphones channel is what affects volume in both headphones and laptop speakers. Since pulseaudio only plays with Master and PCM, only when pulseaudio slider is at 80% and it starts upping the PCM is when a change in volume is noted. Ideally, if there was some way to swap or tie together the ALSA master and headphones channels, this would hopefully fix the problem. Alternatively, if pulseaudio could be configured to play with the headphones ALSA slider rather than Master, that should also fix the problem. I feel the former solution is more elegant though. ALSAmixergui reveals the following hw info: Card: Intel 82801DB-ICH4 Chip: Realtek ALC202 rev 0 I don't know whether to file this bug under ALSA or the audio driver. And since you have tested your Panasonic under Karmic, could you install the old driver too? What is your advice? Karmic is available soon. I was planning to install it on the notebook. Don't touch Karmic until it's released. It's the same story there, you'll need to install the 2.4 drivers. I've been using linux for close to 10 years now and even I tend to stay away from development versions. For you, I'd suggest you wait for the actual release as karmic is currently in development/testing and things can and will go wrong. And I'm not just talking about your graphics driver. I would also suggest staying away from custom kernels if you're a newcomer to linux, as it's not very user friendly. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot better than what it used to be, but I'd suggest trying the other options first and only go to the custom kernel route if you really have to. Re: [Bug 370292] Re: [i855] X freezing on intel 855GM
Hi Nomnex, I'm no ubuntu bugsmith, so I don't know if you should be asking for advice or not here, but I'm happy to give it. :) If you follow that link you talk about, it will give you instructions on how to revert to the older version of the display driver. This older version is still fine and I haven't yet found any issues. It is, however, not very fast at 3D. If you're into gaming, I'd suggest having/keeping a dual boot with windows as you won't get very good performance out of the 855 under linux (well, under anything really, but windows will be better). I also suggest you turn off visual effects (system - preferences - appearance - visual effects - none) but you can try without and see if it's fast enough for you. It seems that this bug has been submitted upstream and for some reason, subsequently closed, even though the bug has not been fixed. rant It's the unfortunate state of affairs that some driver/software developers don't want to hear about bugs in their code and seem to react with derision towards anyone reporting. Possibly this is the case here, I don't know. I can understand their frustration though, as it seems that too many newcomers to linux don't understand how FOSS works and treat the developers as if they *should* or *have to* help them. It can be frustrating to both parties, however everyone needs to remember that the developers are putting in their own time and effort for free and have no obligation to do *anything* for *anyone*. /rant I have given up hope on this bug being fixed and will continue to use the 2.4 drivers until it's time to upgrade my laptop. Hopefully these older drivers remain compatible with future X changes until this time. If you want to take this bug further, I'm sure someone else subscribed to this bug report will be able to direct you in the right direction. Just remember the point above; in this community, the developers are considered gods and justifiably so. For a developer to fix this bug is to do you a favour so try to avoid getting angry or frustrated if they decline. I hope this helps. :) Mike On Thu, 2009-09-17 at 04:02 +, nomnex wrote: @Mike Rose and everybody on the thread. Hi, glad I found this thread. Re: [Bug 370292] Re: [i855] Jaunty - X freezing on intel 855GM - MTRR issue (UXA/EXA)
Have been running Karmic alpha 2 for approx 5 hours now. Good news is that the MTRR errors are gone. Bad news is the freezes are still happening. Two lockups. One occurred when I had firefox open, lots of tabs open, 'Normal' visual effects enabled. REISUB'ed. Decided to try turning off visual effects, but got another lockup, this time in terminal looking through kernel logs from the last lockup looking for clues :) I did notice that for approx a minute before the lockup, everything in the terminal went real slow. Like, scrolling via mouse wheel would take 2 seconds before it would start scrolling. Very laggy. It's quite probable that this has happened with past freezes without me noticing however, as I've found some websites slow my computer down to a crawl anyway (probably due to flash). Nothing in the logs showing anything. For what it's worth, I also got the lockup on the livecd too and I noticed before it happened I had a slight font corruption (every instance of 'e' had a line through it). Funnily enough, I also noticed this in terminal before it locked up (this time 'r' was missing a bit) so I don't know if it's related or not. I've reverted to intel 2.4 drivers ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4 ) and they've been stable as a rock, full compositing (albeit slowish, it's only intel 815 :) Let me know if there's any diagnostic tools I can run to give some more information. Maybe a version of the intel drivers with verbose debugging output or something. I don't mind it running a little slow while I'm testing, I just want this bug sorted. :) Mike Bryce Harrington wrote: suckertoo, no problem, hopefully Mike Rose can test. Sure thing Bryce, I'll get to testing when I can. I've got a thesis that needs finishing first, so it might not be for another few weeks though. I don't know if I originally commented on this bug, but I've been tracking the 955GM freeze bug too, and I've tried the intel 2.4 drivers which work a charm. UbuntuStudio gives some strange hangs, but I think this is more due to the RT kernel as standard ubuntu jaunty with intel 2.4 drivers is rock solid. I'll update the bug when I test Karmic.
