Did you try to add those two lines to the Device section :

Option AccelMethod EXA
Option MigrationHeuristic greedy

It worked for me (I have an ATI driver).

Making my driver use EXA didn't work immediately for me.

I had to add another line in  Device section of xorg.conf to make it
work :

Option AccelMethod EXA
Option MigrationHeuristic greedy
