[Bug 1891463] Re: HP network printer auto-found, two printer instances created, neither work

Text gives the game away:

grep: /etc/cups/ppd/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8720_AE46BB_.ppd: Permission denied.

Found to be security issue with ppd file. Changed to 644 and print works
fine.

Does beg the question though why the ppd file had the wrong permissions

[Bug 1088244] Re: No Full-Disk Encryption unlock screen on some boots

2013-03-13 Thread Misoldgit
I have a problem with the unlock screen - it doesnt randomly not appear but it
does appear as corrupted (screenshot attached). This is consistent. I've seen
it appear OK once but predominantly it's corrupted. This may be a different bug
in which case I'm happy to raise a new one.
Looks like a video mode problem but have tried adjusting monitor with no joy.
Monitor is a BenQ GL2250 which works fine once Ubuntu has booted.
I should point out that if I type in the password the system seems to work
fine. While booting the screen stays corrupted until the login screen appears.

[Bug 920964] Re: system crashed during install inside Virtualbox VM

2012-01-25 Thread Misoldgit
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 894768 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894768

Not convinced this is dupe with 894768.
The kernel here was the Precise kernel from 12.04 alpha1.
The problem is repeatable every time and is exhibited when installing the
alpha1 in a Virtualbox VM and selecting 'download updates while installing' -
install will crash every time during copying files and displaying the map.
Note - I'm running VM guest under Virtualbox NAT - will try when bridged to see
if this causes it.

Re: [Bug 158481] Re: IPv6 causes wireless to disconnect/reconnect often

2011-05-04 Thread Misoldgit
OK thanks for your help.

wrote:

Misoldgit, please file a new bug instead of adding information here.
What you're seeing is most likely a totally different issue.

FWIW, I've been running NM in wifi only with IPv6 set to Automatic for
the past few days with no issues at all; and previously for a few months
with both wired and wifi with IPv6 enabled and Automatic, with no
issues either. I'll set this back to Invalid because IPv6 does not
appear to cause an issue with wireless itself and because this bug was
filed a long time ago, when NM didn't even really support IPv6 so much.

If you're still seeing issues, please don't hesitate to file a new,
separate bug so that it can be looked into. The easiest way to do this
is with the command: ubuntu-bug network-manager

 Title:
IPv6 causes wireless to disconnect/reconnect often

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

I have had the following bug since Ubuntu 6.10:

  - I connect to a wireless network with Network Manager (doesn't matter
whether it's hidden or has any type of encryption)
  - After a few minutes my connection goes down (usually around 10-30
 minutes)
  - I can immediately see nm-applet trying to reconnect or connect to
 another network

My computer is a Thinkpad T60 with an Atheros-based internal wireless
interface (more specifically, AR5212 802.11abg NIC) using the default
MadWifi drivers that are shipped with Ubuntu.

This is a big problem when doing long downloads, or using SSH or VNC.
At times, nm-applet would even fail to reconnect to any of the
available networks, requiring me to restart the NetworkManager process
  by hand.

This does not happen on the same machine when running Windows, so
malfunctioning hardware and anything external to the computer are
obviously not the underlying cause. Other (Windows) computers on the
same wireless networks operate without any problems.

Also, the problem survived through clean installs of Ubuntu 7.04 and,
later, 7.10. So this is not an issue related to my specific settings.

After a while looking for a solution for almost 1 year, I finally
found a temporary fix: to disable IPv6. I'm not sure *why* this works,
but the fact is that it *does*. I've been happily using my WiFi now
for 20 days without a single reconnect. This is how I disabled it:

  - edit /etc/modprobe.d/aliases
  - change line alias net-pf-10 ipv6 to alias net-pf-10 off ipv6
  - reboot

I explained these steps on another bug report
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-
manager/+bug/64173), but since I'm not sure whether the original
poster's bug was related to mine, I figured it would be better to open
  a brand new one.

[Bug 158481] Re: IPv6 causes wireless to disconnect/reconnect often

2011-05-02 Thread Misoldgit
I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop.
I have an HE IPv6 tunnel connected to the external address of my home gateway
which is an Ubuntu server 10.04.2 LTS.
I have IPv6 enabled on my internal network via radvd on the Ubuntu server. The
radvd config is below (sanitised):

interface eth1
  {
 AdvSendAdvert on;
 prefix x/64
   {
  AdvOnLink on;
  AdvAutonomous on;
  AdvRouterAddr on;
   };
 RDNSS 2001:470:20::2 {};
};

radvd responds to IPv6 NDP (Network Dicovery Protocol) router enquiries
by supplying the router address and network prefix information. This
allows the wireless NIC to auto-discover it's v6 address network prefix
then generate a unique address using EUI-64.

Very regularly my wireless connection disconnects then immediately
reconnects - normally it's 10 minutes almost to the second but sometimes
it doesnt disconnect at all.

The default time for MaxRtrAdvInterval in radvd is 600 seconds -
coincidence?

If I set my IPv6 network-manager settings to 'ignore' the disconnect
doesnt seem to happen.

Let me know if there is other information you need.

[Bug 330383] Re: MTP is preferred over UMS/MSC

Can I ask if anyone is actively working on this?

I'm not a coder by any standards but I'm willing to have a go if someone
can guide me. Of course, I'm happy to undertake any testing required as
guided to fix this problem.

I have a Sony NWZ-A829 MP4 player which suffers from this. I'm currently
using a workaround i.e. killing hlad to allow Nautilus access to the
player as this is the only way I can get videos onto the player.

Let me know...

[Bug 347902] Re: Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-06-03 Thread Misoldgit
I thought I'd just tell you about the workaround I'm now using until the
real fix.

Using a workaround previously discussed, I have put a line entry in my
fstab:

/dev/sdb1 /media/disk vfatuser,noauto 0 0

I created a folder:
  sudo mkdir /media/disk
  sudo chmod 777 /media/disk

Then I have a very simple script I run before I connect the player:

-- start --
#!/bin/bash
sudo killall hald
echo connect mp3 player
read -p Press enter to continue
ls -lah /dev/disk/by-label
read -p Press enter to mount drive
mount /media/disk
-- end --

The device that the player appears as is likely to be different on a
different system so a change may be needed there.

Then I need to restart hald using 'sudo hald' when I've finished. Note
things like battery level detection dont work while hald isnt running.

Oh and reload when you've finished - not good to have hald not running.

Very clunky but it does give me usb storage access to the player so I
can load videos etc.

2009-05-31 Thread Misoldgit
Just thought I'd confirm I see the same symptoms too. My player is a
Sony NWZ-A829 and I'm running Jaunty on a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop.
Exactly the same symptoms as previously described - player automounts
but no access to files - Nautilus reports same error as reported at
start of this bug

Tried killing the gvfs-photo2-volume-monitor - doesnt seem to change anything.
Installed usbmount as recommended but nothing seemed to change then later while
using laptop for something else noticed that palyer was appearing as a storage
device in Nautilus and I could then access all files etc. Managed to move all
MP3s etc onto player.
As of now, unfortunately, cant replicate whatever I did to get access.

[Bug 347902] Re: Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-31 Thread Misoldgit
Here's the problem as I experience it step-by-step (hope this helps)

(with usbmount installed)
reload
connect player
Sony Walkman icon appears on desktop as Sony Corp. WALKMAN
Rhythmbox starts
Rhythmbox has no Walkman icon
Click on desktop icon and the following occurs:
 - opens Nautilus at Location:gphoto2://[usb:002,002]/
 - WALKMAN icon is highlighted
 - gives the error:
'The folder contents could not be displayed. Sorry, could not display all the
contents of Sony WALKMAN: Failed to get folder list: -1: Unspecified error'

As recommended, I kill process gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
Walkman icon disappears from Nautilus but remains on the desktop
If click on desktop icon again, Location gphoto2://[usb:002,002]/ is opened
again but Walkman icon is not in list and no item is highlighted, empty window
is displayed
remove player - desktop icon immediately vanishes
re-insert player
Walkman icon now appears in Rhythmbox and can access music etc
desktop icon does not re-appear

If I kill gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor before connecting player as suggested by
Jean (above), I get TWO desktop icons appear, one labelled 'WALKMAN' and the
other labelled 'Sony Corp. WALKMAN', the first disappears within a few seconds
and everything continues as above.
I then checked and it seems that gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor has restarted.

[Bug 347902] Re: Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-31 Thread Misoldgit
Your English is far far better than my Italian, Roberto ;-)

You are correct, I hadnt noticed but if Rhythmbox is already running then the
player will immediately connect to Rythymbox as WALKMAN and there is access to
music etc. No icon appears on the desktop. Interestingly if the player is
unplugged then Rythymbox shuts down.
I checked and gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor is running.

If I connect the player without Rhythmbox already running, then the
desktop icon appears first then Rythymbox autostarts but does not
connect to the player. Everything continues as two comments back.

Re: [Bug 215120] Re: The Evolution calendar has quit unexpectedly

2008-07-30 Thread Misoldgit
Hi Sebastien

Tried to run the backtrace but it wasnt successful. I put the results on
the bug but I must be doing something wrong?

I have loads of problems wih Evolution - so much so that I no longer
bother using it with Exchange - is this just me or are there lots of
issues.

[Bug 215120] Re: The Evolution calendar has quit unexpectedly

2008-07-29 Thread Misoldgit
Tried to obtain a backtrace but got the following response from gdb:
(gdb) backtrace full
No stack.
(gdb) info regsiters
Undefined info command: regsiters. Try help info.
(gdb) info registers
The program has no registers now.
(gdb) thread apply all backtrace
No registers.
(gdb) quit

I suspect I'm doing something wrong.

Correction - this HAS stopped me using evolution completely. I'm now
back to Outlook in a VirtualBox VM. Not as seamless but at least it
doesnt crash as much.

[Bug 215120] Re: The Evolution calendar has quit unexpectedly

2008-05-28 Thread Misoldgit
I'm suffering from this bug too.

It's almost guaranteed that if I open an item in an exchange calendar I
will get the dreaded The Evolution calendar has quit unexpectedly. Your
calendars will not be available until Evolution is restarted dialogue.
I'm using version 10.22.1 running under Ubuntu 8.04 . This almost stops
me using Evolution completely.

Version 10.12.x under 7.10 used to do this too but no where near as
badly. I was under the impression that upgrading to Hardy would bring an
upgraded version of Evolution with this fixed but that doesn't appear to
be the case.
