[Bug 1759899] [NEW] RNDPLUS USB Touchscreen appears and disappears constantly

2018-03-29 Thread Satheesh Narayanan
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 14.04 (kernel 3.9.0-31) this was perfectly functional. After

observed.

1. Linux may not boot sometime when the USB touchscreen is plugged in.
2. If it did boot, see the below message repeatedly with the 'device number'
incrementing.

[Bug 1573454] Re: Mouse pointer disappear after suspend in Xubuntu 16.04

2016-05-20 Thread Anish Narayanan
I have a similar issue on xubuntu 16.04 whenever I lock the screen or
suspend the monitor. When I log back in the mouse cursor is missing.
However, when I hit alt-tab to switch applications, the mouse reappears!
I am not sure why this works, but it does for me. Can anyone else
confirm if this works for them? The tty switch (with ctrl-alt-f2 and
ctrl-alt-f7) mentioned in other comments works for me as well.

Thanks! I used the Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator from the corrupt drive to
create a new boot media and was able to install quantal.

This is likely the result of corrupt media. I'd try recreating the disk
or using a tool other than unetbootin to create the boot media.

[Bug 898870] Re: Grid placed window overlaps the adjacent viewport

2013-01-17 Thread Anish Narayanan
I noticed that the degree to which the overlap is present on the next
workspace is based on the width of the window borders listed in the
user's theme. I edited the metacity-theme-1.xml file for my theme to
resolve this problem. Simply go to the section of the file listing
frame_geometry name=frame_geometry_normal ... and underneath that,
set left_width and right_width to 0 (set bottom_height to zero for
visual consistency). This gets rid of the overhang, but I think the
shadow is still present in the adjacent workspace. Setting the width to
anything other than zero leads to an overhang that is twice that width
on the next workspace.

I could access the 'Monitor Preferences' application to perhaps try

The above line (in paragraph 6 of Bug Description, after
connecting the external monitor / broken display) should read

I could not access the 'Monitor Preferences' application to

[Bug 905128] [NEW] Unity 3D test failed when attaching external monitor

2011-12-15 Thread GS Narayanan
Public bug reported:

Installed Oneiric Ocelot on an Alpha 32 bit laptop with 16gB memory,
Omega 3D Video controller, 4gB Video memory and
Omicron screen display with a 640 X 480 native display resolution.
Display during installation and post- installation operations went OK.
Monitor preferences were adjustable.
Then started the system tests.
Connected an Epsilon external monitor to the VGA port of the laptop.
This resulted in a broken display, which is shown in
the attachment problem1.png
I could access the 'Monitor Preferences' application to perhaps try
different display settings.
Power cycled the laptop. The problem persisted.
Disconnected the external monitor and power cycled the laptop. The
operations were normal in the single monitor mode.
Connected the Epsilon monitor to a Zeta 32bit desktop, running Oneiric
Ocelot, with Video controller and memory
similar to the laptop. The display was OK.
No problems were seen with Unity 2D or Nattie Narwhal either. The
external monitor could be connected OK.

In addition to problem1.png, I have attached the following
logs.

   syslog
   dmesg
   kern.log
   Xorg.0.log
   messages
   gconfd.log

   Note:

   1. In the screen capture image, it may be noticed that the width of the
offending wide, narrow and dark grey rectangle
equals the width of the 'Monitor Preferences' application. So a horizontal
shift somewhere in the driver code may rectify
the problem.

2. problem may be related to Bug # 830949

[Bug 842303] Re: graphthing menu does not appear in non-unity interface

2011-11-10 Thread Narayanan N
I think more than the application itself, the problems with the
incompatibility of the two interfaces gnome and unity should be
dealt with. There does not appear any attempt in that direction.

[Bug 690546] [NEW] ibus-m17n package is not selected even enabling language support for other languages

2010-12-15 Thread Narayanan N
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ibus

When I tried to enable language support for some indic languages
(malayalam, sanskrit, tamil etc), by selecting Admin-Language Support
and added these languages, the system prompted and installed many
packages. This however does not install ibus-m17n package which is
necessary to enable writing support using ibus. There is no option to
enable this other than manually installing the said package. This is
clearly a bug as users are not expected to know which package they need
to enable writing support.

[Bug 652915] [NEW] mutter restarts when closing Java application (Jin chess client)

2010-10-01 Thread Narayanan N

The earlier unity related issue of mutter restarting while closing some

This does not happen in gnome. There is also a difference. When in
gnome, the menus of java programs and mouse pointer is aligned, but in
unity interface, these java program menus does not correctly follow the
mouse pointer, but rather about a cm difference vertically.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: unity

I reported a problem with mutter, in
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/638662, but i got a
crash of unity as well. So reporting with a gdb trace.

Just after today's update, I am no longer able to use the unity interface
to login. I only get a blank screen after logging in.
When I logged into gnome session and started mutter, no more X events were
handled neither the display got refreshed. I even tried to open some
programs from the console by typing xterm, firefox, gv etc. All these were
executed, but no change in the display screen. Only mouse pointer can be
 seen moving.

Later I tried to use gdb. But there is no crash of mutter whatever I tried.
When I started unity (unity -s or unity -p) from terminal after mutter was
started, I could see the mouse pointer change to I if I open a terminal or
back to default if I move it away. Then if i used the mouse to click at some
random places, it ends up in a crash of unity.

Re: [Bug 645724] Re: Ibus applet in unity does not allow selection of menu entries by mouse.

2010-09-22 Thread Narayanan N
It was always the case with me if the daemon is automatically started. I
had migrated from lucid, so to make sure that the problem is not with old
account settings, I created a new account to check. The same problem is
there also.

Then I though of using strace to get some info. Strangely enough when I
start strace ibus-daemon, it works fine. Then I tried ibus-daemon on the
terminal without strace. It does not work then. If I try strace ibus-daemon
-d, the strace info is not displayed after it goes to daemon mode.

So i am at loss of what can be done to get to the problem. I can always
reproduce it. But I am not sure how or why. If you have any ideas that I can
try, I would be happy to try it out.

thanks
narayanan

[Bug 638662] [NEW] mutter hangs the desktop refresh

2010-09-14 Thread Narayanan N
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mutter

Just after today's update, I am no longer able to use the unity interface to
login. I only get a blank screen after logging in.
When I logged into gnome session and started mutter, no more X events were
handled neither the display got refreshed. I even tried to open some programs
from the console by typing xterm, firefox, gv etc. All these were executed, but
no change in the display screen. Only mouse pointer can be seen moving.

Later I tried to use gdb. But there is no crash of mutter whatever I
tried. When I started unity (unity -s or unity -p) from terminal after
mutter was started, I could see the mouse pointer change to I if I open
a terminal or back to default if I move it away. Then if i used the
mouse to click at some random places, it ends up in a crash of unity.

I am reporting bugs of unity as well as mutter. I have a gdb trace of unity
crash.

[Bug 636743] [NEW] mutter restarts when any application is closed, also kills the terminal which starts the app.

2010-09-12 Thread Narayanan N
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mutter

This is even more serious than the previous problem. Earlier, mutter
used to restart when an application was closed. That temporarily
disappeared after one upgrade. Now it has comeback with the following
addon!. If an application, (like gv, firefox, xpdf) is started from a
terminal, when it is closed, the terminal also dies and mutter restarts.

If there is any specific information I could provide, please let me know
what to do. Since there are no dbgsym pack for mutter, I am not sure
what need to be done.

[Bug 633711] [NEW] grinvin crashes before loading workspace

2010-09-08 Thread Narayanan N
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grinvin

This bug seems to have been for there for some time now. I could not
find any report searching the launchpad with grinvin.

The problem seems to be with incompatibility of java version. If I
download the grinvin from the homepage that includes JRE, it works. The
latest version released in august supports the later version of Java.

Re: [Bug 632200] Re: Mutter restarts when applications button in the unity interface is clicked

2010-09-07 Thread Narayanan N
Hi,
thanks. How can I backtrace mutter or unity, since it is restarted
automatically by the system. Is there a way to suppress the restart and use
gdb mutter or gdb unity so that the program actually takes control of the
window runs under gdb?

This sounds like an unity bug, can you get a backtrace to ensure it's not a
 dup of bug #629692?
 The procedure is at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace

 Thanks a lot.

[Bug 625533] Re: weird window management behavior

2010-09-07 Thread Narayanan N
There are other similar problems. The top unity bar applets are not
clickable immediately after login unless the ubuntu icon on the top
left is clicked, selects the rightmost power button/ some other palace
to change focus and then click it. This also happens sometimes during
while we work. It is like it is losing the ability to focus.

[Bug 592716] Re: Dual Monitor support

2010-09-07 Thread Narayanan N
An even bigger problem that I noticed is that on dual monitor mode, the
windows which are on the right display, the buttons, menu etc. appear on
the left/main display. This happens when the applications are in
fullscreen mode/maximized.

[Bug 632850] [NEW] Menu item selection does not follow mouse pointer

2010-09-07 Thread Narayanan N
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I am not sure if this is a bug of unity or not. but I cannot pin point
it to a single package.

It sometimes happen that when I select a menu and use the mouse pointer
to select an item, I need to keep the pointer way below the item to get
it selected. This makes it difficult to use (especially for the entries
at the end of menu).

This used to happen to even menus in the panel in earlier versions of
unity. After some upgrade it is not so common in the panel. Where it
consistently occur now is when I use the jabref package. There was one
more application caused this, which I cannot recall now.

sorry for the lack of information. If there are any suggestions to get
more specific information, I would be glad to be of use.
