[Bug 1169244] [NEW] Thinkpad ethernet unavailable after undocking
Public bug reported: I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s with a MiniDock Series 3. In Ubuntu 13.04, the ethernet connection is not available after undocking. The output of 'ip link show dev eth0' shows NO_CARRIER status if a CAT5 cable is plugged into the ethernet port after undocking. The link light comes on, but it's impossible to use the connection. It seems as if the system still thinks it's in the docked state, so the onboard ethernet port is overridden by the now-disconnected docking station ethernet port. [Bug 996906] Re: periodic audio skips with Intel HDA
I'm experiencing the same behavior as berend in post #22. My Bluetooth headphones work great, but the HDA Intel device in my Lenovo ThinkPad T420 gives me fits. My solution for right now is to use an external USB audio device or Bluetooth headphones to work around the problem. It's interesting that so many people could potentially be affected by an issue affecting the HDA Intel hardware, yet this thread is quite small. There's got to be a specific combination of hardware and software that causes this issue. At this point I guess we know that snd-hda-intel and pulseaudio are required to reproduce the issue. Re: [Bug 937522] Re: rdp clipboard sync doesn't work anymore.
I've arrived at the rdesktop solution too. Sure, it's deprecated and all that, but it's more stable than remmina or xfreerdp. It has other, more minor issues with the clipboard and mouse cursors, but for someone who manages lots of Windows systems it's really the only way to do it since the remmina/xfreerdp regressions occurred. [Bug 879047] [NEW] Child windows invisible in Unity scale mode
Public bug reported: The scale plugin called by Unity does not render child windows of applications such as Firefox, Pidgin, and Empathy after the child window is minimized. It is impossible to use the Unity launcher to manage these types of applications when minimized. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Firefox, select Tools - Downloads from the menu. This will spawn the Downloads child window. 2. Minimize the Downloads window. 3. Double left-click the Firefox launcher at left. 4. Main Firefox window will render when the scale plugin is activated, but the child window is invisible (screenshot attached). Other observations: This doesn't affect multiple windows of the same application - e.g. two Chrome browser windows. You can left-click in the area of the scale mode where the child window should be to restore it. [Bug 792849] [NEW] Lenovo ThinkPad T420 random hardlocks with Sandy Bridge graphics
Public bug reported: I would experience 1-2 hardlocks per day when running 11.04 on my T420. System was completely unresponsive and required a hard reset. I kept an eye on syslog and Xorg.0.log, but not once did I ever get any messages during the time of the lockup. I was not able to find a correlation between any particular type of usage, nor could I reproduce the problem other than just using the system for a full day. With little information to go on other than reports of incomplete support for Intel Sandy Bridge graphics in 11.04, I started experimenting with newer packages. After more than a week of testing, the stability of my system has greatly improved after installing the xorg-edgers PPA and the following kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next- proposed/current/ I apologize for the incompleteness of this report, but I just wanted to make a record of what works and what doesn't work for the T420 on Ubuntu 11.04. [Bug 764574] Re: Maximized window overlaps unity launcher when compiz setting launcher_hide_mode is set to Never
Yesterday I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04. Technically 11.04 was beta at that time, but there really haven't been any package updates since then, so I pretty much went from Maverick to Natty final. When I did have the issue I was testing from a live USB using 11.04 beta 2. Obviously since I was running from USB I had only the packages included with beta 2 and none of the updates after it was released. From a video standpoint it should be noted that I'm using Intel Arrandale integrated graphics. As discussed, Natty puts the Unity launcher on the leftmost monitor by default, and obviously this is not ideal for approximately half of dual monitor users. Anyways, to move the launcher to the right I used this xrandr command: xrandr --output DP1 --primary -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764574 Title: Maximized window overlaps unity launcher when compiz setting launcher_hide_mode is set to Never -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 764574] Re: Maximized window overlaps unity launcher when compiz setting launcher_hide_mode is set to Never
I'm able to reproduce this behavior on Natty beta 2. In my case the right monitor must be set to primary, as my desk has far more space on the right, so the larger monitor goes there. We can't unconditionally put the Unity launcher on the left. Supporting never hide for the launcher on the right monitor makes Unity usable for what is likely 50% of multi-monitor users. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764574 Title: Maximized window overlaps unity launcher when compiz setting launcher_hide_mode is set to Never -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 303595] Re: Gsynaptics loses settings on resume
It's cool to see that my script has continued to be useful to some, but as pointed out earlier it does have a major limitation in that if you're not on tty7 the script won't work. I've attached a new script which might be a small improvement, but it's completely untested. It's based on my assumption that in the output of the who command, the (:0) denotes DISPLAY 0, which should be the logged-in X11 user. How this will interact with multiple X11 users on DISPLAY 0 (Gnome switch user feature?), I have no idea. Since I no longer own the troublesome laptop in question, I haven't needed this script, but if anyone wants to test this new script I'd like to know if it works. ** Attachment added: 90-gsynaptics-init http://launchpadlibrarian.net/44268789/90-gsynaptics-init -- Gsynaptics loses settings on resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303595 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 447695] [NEW] Nautilus cannot write to shared Vista/Win7 folders with desktop.ini file
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Expectation: To be able to share a folder on a Vista/Win7 PC and have full read/write access to that folder from a Ubuntu PC via the Nautilus file manager. Actual result: Nautilus cannot gain write access to shared Vista/Win7 folders that contain a desktop.ini file. Steps to reproduce: 1. Right-click a newly created folder on a Vista/Win7 PC and select Share with. 2. Use the following dialog to grant network users write access to the folder. At this stage the folder is empty and Nautilus can successfully write to the folder. 3. Right-click the same Vista/Win7 folder and navigate to the Customize tab. 4. From the Optimize this folder... drop-down menu pick any of the available options. This will add a Windows system file called desktop.ini to the folder. 5. Go to a Ubuntu 9.04 PC and browse to the Vista/Win7 PC using the Network option in the Places menu in Nautilus. 6. Double-click the Vista/Win7 folder you shared to mount it. 7. Attempt to create a new folder or file within the shared folder. Access will be denied. Interesting notes: If you go to the ~/.gvfs path via command line and browse to the same mounted network share you will have write access via command line. This same issue occurs with the smb4k program in KDE4, but not the built-in Samba server browser in Konqueror. Newly-created shared folders on a Vista/Win7 PC that do not contain a desktop.ini file can be successfully written to with Nautilus. [Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX
Was using Marcelo's workaround until I upgraded the system in question to Intrepid. I could not create a new session after upgrading. [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
This bug is more severe than the title implies. This affects not only Active Directory networks but also any standalone Windows XP (possibly all Windows versions) machines that share files with authentication turned on. By default, Windows XP shares are configured in simple file sharing mode which has no authentication. If you need write access to your shares and leave the default simple file sharing mode enabled (which it seems most everyone does), then any computer on your network can access and delete all the files in your share. It may be thought of as a bit overkill to require authentication on a small LAN that is in your control, but consider all the laptops that are set up with unprotected shares and then are taken to a public network such as at a coffee shop. -- nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
