[Bug 910940] Re: Please convert package to Multiarch (to be used with dosbox)
A check within the Ubuntu Package archive shows that libsdl-sound1.2 has been converted to Multiarch on Ubuntu 12.10. Since I am not running 12.10 for x86_64 at the moment, it would worth if someone tests this. The aforementioned test with DOSBox can be repeated, applying the following steps: 1. Install DOSBox, x86_64 architecture: sudo apt-get install dosbox 2. Remove DOSBox, but not the dependencies: sudo apt-get remove dosbox 3. Attempt to install DOSBox, i386 arch: sudo apt-get install dosbox:i386 Assuming all relevant dependencies have been converted to Multiarch, no package should get removed on step 3. P.S. As of 12.10, the libsmpeg0 package (which has also been converted to Multiarch) is not a dependency of libsdl-sound1.2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/910940 Title: Please convert package to Multiarch (to be used with dosbox) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsdl-sound1.2/+bug/910940/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 980663] Re: Compiz won't start if "unredirect fullscreen windows" is enabled
I may confirm the bug, although the behavior is a bit inconsistent. Here is what I've had for today. "Unredirect fullscreen windows" has been toggled on during that time. - On the first boot for today, Unity with Compiz has started as expected. - Upon a reboot (applied after a kernel update), it hasn't. A crash dialog has appeared ~20 seconds after loading the desktop (without Unity and Compiz). I've chosen to relaunch Compiz in the dialog, resulting in Unity and Compiz loading and working. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980663 Title: Compiz won't start if "unredirect fullscreen windows" is enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/980663/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint with Nvidia after upgrading to 11.2
I confirm this too now. What's strange is that I've noticed this only today, less than a hour from now. However, this may be a bit irrelevant as I'm using an unofficial NVidia driver, version 295.33-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1 (version of nvidia-current and nvidia-settings packages). [Bug 910940] [NEW] Please convert package to Multiarch (to be used with dosbox)
Public bug reported: While not a portion of ia32-libs on Ubuntu 11.10, the package is a dependency of DOSBox (installable via the dosbox package). Here is why would one like multiarch support: Some users may prefer to install the dosbox:i386 package, even on an x86_64 OS installation. The reason being that, with the right settings, DOS games can be run with a better performace on the i386 variant of DOSBox, taking advantage of i386 specific code. Most of DOSBox' dependencies have already been converted to Multiarch. Here is a way of finding out which aren't yet fully converted: 1. Install DOSBox, x86_64 architecture: sudo apt-get install dosbox 2. Remove DOSBox, but not the dependencies: sudo apt-get remove dosbox 3. Attempt to install DOSBox, i386 arch: sudo apt-get install dosbox:i386 That way, we can ensure that no potential collision is missed. Here is the important portion of the third step's output (as of now): " The following packages will be REMOVED: libsdl-sound1.2 libsmpeg0 " So, once libsdl-sound1.2 and libsmpeg0 are converted to Multiarch, dosbox:i386 should (theoretically) be installable, with no conflicts with the respective x86_64 variants of all libraries. The report itself is only relevant to libsdl-sound1.2, though. (libsmpeg0 is in ia32-libs, which might make a difference.) One minor potential issue: libsdl-sound1.2 comes with two executables installed to /usr/bin: playsound and playsound_simple). It could be that these executables should be split into their own respective package, if Multiarch is desired. Public bug reported: In case an OpenAL application is being run and the following conditions are met: * OpenAL Soft is configured to use an ALSA device. * Using this device, the output is expected to get redirected to PulseAudio. On quit, the application may hang, at least for about 30 seconds. Another update: It looks like I was wrong, regarding Epiphany and the sound with the PA backend. In the past I had stuttering sound in Epiphany while using the PA backend. Without being even aware of that, it disappeared thanks to a workaround suggested in some forum topic; It might be this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4928900 In the file ~/.pulse/daemon.conf (possibly based on /etc/pulse/daemon.conf), I've added the following lines: default-fragments = 8 default-fragment-size-msec = 5 More lines can be added. [Bug 211698] Re: ia32-libs missing SDL with ESD backend for PulseAudio; And many other libraries too as it seems like.
A few updates: * In the past, it looked like the ESD backend of SDL worked better than the PulseAudio backend in a few cases, like in the Epiphany game. Now the PA backend seems to work fine with that game. * Using the ESD backend, there have been a few times when I've just heard loud "pink noise" (term mentioned in speaker-test --help). I remember it has happened with some application talking to ESD directly and not SDL as well (not sure which app). It could be related to the following bug, although I'm not fully sure about that: http://www.pulseaudio.org/ticket/322 * Finally, EDuke32 is now available as a 64-bit binary, so all of this stuff can be considered irrelevant to EDuke32. It may still be useful to replace the 32-bit SDL sound backend, and maybe with the PulseAudio backend and not ESD, since it at least works probably with Epiphany this time. -- ia32-libs missing SDL with ESD backend for PulseAudio; And many other libraries too as it seems like. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216322] Re: SDL applications auto-leave fullscreen if set to native 1280x1024 or higher resolution and Compiz is enabled.
Regarding a recent post in bug report #157759, I agree with Adam that it isn't a duplicate of bug #216322. #216322 - The app auto-switches to windowed mode if it's fullscreen and uses the desktop resolution. #157759 - If I understand that correctly, the app goes windowed after some time and the controls may not respond. I remember I've got that as well a few times in the past. On a side-note, it looks like Corsaire's report in the Bug #157759 page actually refers to this bug. I've selected System -> Preferences -> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (I think it's available from a compizconfig-backend-gconf package; Otherwise, I guess e.g. gconf-editor can be used), selected "General Options" and then unchecked "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows". Afterwards I've re-enabled Compiz via System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects. With EDuke32, icculus.org/duke3d and DOSBox, all running at the desktop resolution of 1280x1024, problem solved! What I guess is that, assuming that option was enabled from the moment I install Hardy, it should maybe be disabled by default. I say "maybe" because there could be other issues which I'm currently not aware of. I could be wrong, but I guess that what this feature means is to render fullscreen apps on top of Compiz. A TEMPORARY WORKAROUND FOR GETTING 32-BIT SDL TO USE ESD: Before using that, I should probably give two warnings: 1. THE ALTERNATIVE SDL LIBRARY GETS EXTRACTED MANUALLY TO /usr/lib32. That should also be made with the SDL library in ia32-libs, which is currently the one with the ALSA backend. ok, maybe what I've reported here is some kind of a duplicate of this? (if we're talking about SDL only) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ia32-libs/+bug/211698 -- libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio must be installed as default by libsdl1.2debian https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203158 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 216322] [NEW] SDL applications auto-leave fullscreen if set to native 1280x1024 resolution and Compiz is enabled.
Public bug reported: After recent updates, a few of them are to Compiz-related packages, it seems like SDL applications can't work probably with fullscreen mode in the native resolution of 1280x1024. What happens is that they simply switch to windowed mode. That doesn't happen with lower resolutions if they're set from the beginning, nor when Compiz is disabled. Tested applications: DOSBox, EDuke32, JFShadowWarrior, my own (sort of) Snake game. I guess it would occur with (almost) all of the SDL applications, but tell if someone wants a link to one of the above specific games, tell me. [Bug 207902] Re: On time set, "/sbin/hwclock returned 256"
Right now it seems like it doesn't happen, after trying to change by a whole hour (like in the last time); I've always tried to change using the clock applet on the panel, in that case. -- On time set, "/sbin/hwclock returned 256" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207902 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 211698] [NEW] ia32-libs missing SDL with ESD backend for PulseAudio; And many other libraries too as it seems like.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ia32-libs The title says it. In the case of SDL, if someone has set ALSA to use the pulse device, that means 32-bit SDL applications are expected to work without sound and crash on quit (at least according to my experience with a few of them). Now I know that it could be too late to add new libraries for Hardy, but if, say, libvorbis and libvorbisfile can be added, that'd be one more improvement. Anyway, a more general problem is that such requests may be done for every single library available (e.g. libSDL-image, libSDL-sound, and in fact almost everything missing); That makes me think that maybe, as long as we don't have some kind of multi-arch support, we should (also) use names like: lib32sdl1.2debian, lib32sdl1.2debian-all, lib32sdl1.2debian-esd, lib32vorbis0a, etc (based on lib64 package names used in Mandriva). Now I know that there are already a few packages like lib32asound2 and lib32ncurses5. If that's too much now for Hardy, maybe just the addition of a few libraries to the existing ia32-libs can be made. ** Affects: ia32-libs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ia32-libs missing SDL with ESD backend for PulseAudio; And many other libraries too as it seems like. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 180478] Re: pulseaudio support, broken nspluginwrapper/flash
On a side note (tested with a 64-app and SDL but may be related to the 32-bit variants as well): I've noticed that the sound in the Epiphany game (epiphany package) works better with SDL->ESD than with SDL->PulseAudio; Which means that maybe the ESD variant of SDL should be provided by default, although there could be a game which works better with SDL->PulseAudio than with SDL->ESD. -- pulseaudio support, broken nspluginwrapper/flash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180478 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 180478] Re: pulseaudio support, broken nspluginwrapper/flash
Regarding 32-bit SDL which William has mentioned in brackets, one possibility is to add multiple packages like ia32-libs-sdl-alsa, ia32 -libs-sdl-pulseaudio and optionally make ia32-libs depend on at least one of them (and e.g. the pulseaudio variant by default). -- pulseaudio support, broken nspluginwrapper/flash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180478 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 154883] Re: Unusable libsdl_mixer as a part of ia32-libs or ia32-libs-sdl
Great to hear that. Now, we may wait for the stable release of Hardy, or get an alpha right now. However, is that maybe possible to make the 32-bit SDL_mixer functional for 64-bit Gutsy users? (via solution 2 or solution 3; 3 seems to be the better choice) Technically SDL_mixer can also be removed from ia32-libs for now, as it's unusable. -- Unusable libsdl_mixer as a part of ia32-libs or ia32-libs-sdl https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154883] Unusable libsdl_mixer as a part of ia32-libs or ia32-libs-sdl
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 7.10 (64-bit), ia32-libs* comes with libSDL_mixer (currently /usr/lib32/libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0.2.4 and the symlink libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0). However, it's unusable because it depends on the following unresolved dependencies: libvorbisfile.so.3, libvorbis.so.0, libogg.so.0, libsmpeg-0.4.so.0. While it's not a new issue, maybe at least one of the following can be made: 1. Remove libSDL_mixer (I prefer to not). 2. Include the missing libraries. 3. Recompile SDL_mixer so it doesn't depend on those extra libs. If someone chooses solution 3, maybe the same should be done with the ordinary libsdl-mixer1.2 and libsdl-mixer1.2-dev packages (32-bit and 64-bit). * In Ubuntu 7.04, the relevant package might be ia32-libs-sdl, but the issue is the very same. ** Affects: ia32-libs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Unusable libsdl_mixer as a part of ia32-libs or ia32-libs-sdl https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
