[Bug 1880541] [NEW] package udev 245.4-4ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: podproces zainstalowany pakiet udev skrypt post-installation returned error code 1

2020-05-25 Thread Sebastian "Nait" Kacprzak
Public bug reported:

During the Dist upgrade from 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS udev failed to
configure interrupting the upgrade.

dpkg complained that kvm already exist but it is not a system group.

>From what I saw my user was the only member of kvm group
I don't recall installing kvm manually but I do have Android emulator installed
so it is possible that it is related.

Removing kvm group via
groupdel kvm
allowed
dpkg --configure -a
to succeed

[Bug 1879054] [NEW] No sound after 20.04 update

2020-05-16 Thread Sebastian "Nait" Kacprzak
Public bug reported:

After update from 18.04 to 20.04 sound stopped working.
KDE does not display Xonar sound card at all.

$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
does not make any sound

Alsamixer displays Xonar set at full volume but changing anything there
does not seem to have any effect.

Moving/deleting the pulse config ( ~/.config/pulse/ ) and restarting
machine did not have any effect.

Running:
$ sudo alsa force-reload
fixes the issue (until restart sound is back, and is displayed properly in KDE)

(data arecord and cards display same data before and after restart)

Ok I tested it on pl locale. Looks like in newer version it looks
better, because I got

the removal blacklist

proposed fix for DistUpgradeCache was invalid
since error was still shown in apt.log :
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u0119' in position
51: ordinal not in range(128)
Logged from file DistUpgradeCache.py, line 661

(\u0119 i ę character which probably appeared in polish version of blacklist
line:
Dist-upgrade failed: 'Pakiet update-manager-kde jest oznaczony do usunięcia,
lecz znajduje się na liście pakietów, których nie należy usuwać.'
I do not know why it try to encode this line when it shown english version in
main.log)

I attach patch that fixes apt.log issue for me.

I might add that u'xab' appears to be character « according to
http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8859-1 (and my test with python2.7).

2014-04-22 Thread Sebastian Nait Kacprzak
Well I can confirm that line 661 was the one that tried to log error, but
changing
logging.error(Dist-upgrade failed: '%s', e)
to
logging.error(Dist-upgrade failed: '%s', unicode(e))

only results in correctly printing 'Dist-upgrade' failed error to log
file:

2014-04-22 20:06:46,539 DEBUG The package 'update-manager-kde' is marked for
removal but it's in the removal blacklist

należy usuwać.'
2014-04-22 20:06:49,345 DEBUG abort called

and does NOT fix the root cause. (Meaning that this change only adds
one line to logfile).

In what version was it fixed? I tried again (open qbzr, commit changes

like in old version. That said I got used to it in the meantime so if no
one cares about it then maybe lets call it a feature and close it ;)

[Bug 964674] [NEW] update-manager fails to update to precise beta

Running update-manager with sudo did help with this issue, but it failed later
and prompted me to report a bug.
Using

gives same result as sudo update-manager

I did tried manually turning off any non standard repositories but it

[Bug 862146] [NEW] LightDM don't reacts on keyboard when cursor is on second monitor(which is default position)

2011-09-29 Thread Sebastian Nait Kacprzak
Public bug reported:

I have usability problem with LightDM. When Ubuntu boots I see LightDM
on primary(left) monitor and black screen on secondary(right) monitor.
Cursor is few pixel on right monitor(and was in previous Ubuntu release
since I remember). In GDM that was not a problem since input was
accepted anyway, but to enter password in LightDM I must move my mouse
to the left monitor before I start typing password(otherwise there is no
reaction). This slows down boot because user must move hand from
keyboard to mouse and back again, but more importantly is confusing(does
my keyboard work?).

Both monitors are 1280x1024 and I use proprietary nvidia driver.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10

[Bug 341677] Re: timed login logs default user in, even though somene already logged as non default user

2010-07-03 Thread Sebastian Nait Kacprzak
Lucid's GDM automatic timed login works only on boot-there is no count
down to log default user again after he logs out making this bug not
reproducible. I wonder if that means that in for example live-cd if user
logs out force him to restart to log in again, but that would be another
issue

[Bug 441210] Re: boot and gdm wallpaper is not dithered

2009-10-31 Thread Nait
I still easily see banding, especially on left/ride sides in the middle.
It can be even more visible if you bump digital vibrance (for example in
nvidia-settings),but I see it without vibrance. I have to zoom out the
picture to ~20% of original size to make it unnoticeable. My monitor is
Samsung 2443BW 1920x1200. My friend says that he also clearly see it on
22'' 1680x1050, but this image look good on some cheap 19'' 1280x1024
office monitor. That says this bug don't bother me much, because I made
my xsplash background completely black and I like it better(it fits to
usplash, break between usplash and xsplash, and to desktop loading where
there is black background before the wallpaper and icons loads up)

[Bug 411264] Re: tty corruption on press Ctrl+Alt+F1

2009-10-10 Thread Nait
I got this problem after yesterday update of usplash and nvida packages. Screen
look similar to this from initial report(although colors are diffrent, but they
change each time I'm going from X to tty). I don't have vga=791 in grub2 boot
line, but changing splash to nosplash fixes it for me. I think that I could
have this bug from begginig of Karmic, but yesterday update just turned on
usplash by default so I just recently notieced it.

[Bug 148659] Re: scrot can't save files

2009-05-04 Thread Nait
Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 RC or later?
yes it is reproducible on ubuntu 9.04 64, but this happens because file have no
extension. scrot accepts files with extension like .png .jpg .tiff .bmp
(haven't found any other but may be more) to decide type of the file. I think
that we could:
-save as png if not extension is given
-don't save but write an error in more friendly way like: Saving to file foo
failed. Please type a file name with correct extension( .png .jpg .tiff .bmp)

[Bug 341677] [NEW] timed login logs default user in, even though somene already logged as non default user

2009-03-12 Thread Nait
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

First time it happened to me on Ubuntu 8.10 64bit on some HP laptop with
c2d and intel GPU, but I don't remember what I've done exactly .

I managed to reproduce it this later on my computer this way:
Preparations:
-Enable timed login (I'll call this account defUser, I used 10second login
offset but it shouldn't matter)
-If you don't have any other account create it. (I'll call this account ndUser)

1.Log in as defUser.
2.Log in concurrently as ndUser using fast user switch
3.open some window(this step is not needed, but its easier to know latter which
session it is)
4.switch back to defUser
5.log out defUser
At that moment you should see GDM with counting seconds not a blocked screen of
ndUser
6.login as ndUser, it will unlock his screen(you will see app from step 3
...wait
you will be autologged to defUser(login counter probably wasn't stopped by
login). You can switch to ndUser using fast-switch-applet without being asked
for password(your app from step 3 should be still there). Separate Xservers
maybe?

Tested on vmplayer Ubuntu 9.04 alpha 5 32bit with all current
updates(virtualized on ubuntu 8.10 64 c2d e4...@2.4), and on ubuntu 8.10
64(natively, same machine, nvidia 8600GT GPU). There was a small
difference in my configuration however. On my native installation I set
GDM to autolog me to KDE4.2, so I had to choose gnome manually on
startup, rest of the steps was same, but in the end I only heard KDE
welcome sound and I could switch to it by alt+f10).

[Bug 106427] Re: keyboard timing is broken

2009-01-18 Thread Nait
handy - I don't have such an option in my BIOS(anyway thank you for response I
have read it just after you wrote it but I thought that answering to it then
would be kind like a spam)
I haven't had that problem for a while, I don't remember when was last time
when it occured, but hopefully it was solved by 2.6.27 kernel in ubuntu 8.10

[Bug 106427] Re: keyboard timing is broken

2008-06-26 Thread Nait
I have similar issue on Ubuntu 8.04 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18
14:15:37 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

restarting X, or falling to console don't help(alt+ctrl+f1 did work
after about a minute).

It's not only laptop problem.
My motherboard is Abit IP-35e, and keyboard is PS/2 Logitech Internet Pro
Keyboard
It first appeared about 3weeks ago, I didn't have this issue earlier, and I use
it with Ubuntu since Ubuntu 6.10, and even earlier I didn't have this problem
with Mandriva 2006.
Lag occurs about two times a week, but I don't have idea how to trace
it...using console with on screen keyboard is quite hard for me. Could you tell
me how can I trace it?(because as far as I know it's almost impossible for
programmers to fix a old bug which isn't reproducible, without any extra info)
