I have a similar problem with tex-common in Ubuntu 20.04.
I tried to install a babel language, and got as result (part of the text is in

[Bug 1712052] [NEW] indicator application menu freezes irregularly

2017-08-21 Thread Nelly
Public bug reported:

I have written a python program with an application indicator. Sometimes
(about 1 over 3 times the complete program is started afresh), but not
regularly, the indicator menu shows, the items are getting focus, but
nothing happens when clicking.

I started the program from a terminal window, and expect that on
clicking on any of the 4 buttons, output is printed to the terminal
window, and at clicking on button 4 the program is also ended and the
application icon removed. After most starts of the program, that
happens, but sometimes (about 1 in 3) the buttons appear correctly, but
nothing happens when they are clicked.

A simplified version of my program is:

import gi
gi.require_version('Gtk', '3.0')
from gi.repository import Gtk as gtk
gi.require_version('AppIndicator3', '0.1')
from gi.repository import AppIndicator3 as appindicator

def maken_indicatorscherm():
   APPINDICATOR_ID = 'ID_App_test'
   indicator = appindicator.Indicator.new(APPINDICATOR_ID, "whatever",
appindicator.IndicatorCategory.APPLICATION_STATUS)
   indicator.set_status(appindicator.IndicatorStatus.ACTIVE)
   indicator.set_menu(build_menu())
   gtk.main()

def build_menu():
   menu = gtk.Menu()
   item_open = gtk.MenuItem('Test 1')
   item_open.connect('activate', laat_EA_zien)
   menu.append(item_open)
   item_overzicht = gtk.MenuItem('text 2')
   item_overzicht.connect('activate', overzicht_EA)
   menu.append(item_overzicht)
   item_start = gtk.MenuItem('text 3')
   item_start.connect('activate', verberg_EA)
   menu.append(item_start)
   item_quit = gtk.MenuItem('Quit')
   item_quit.connect('activate', quitGTK)
   menu.append(item_quit)
   menu.show_all()
   return menu

def quitGTK(source):
   print "Quit program"
   gtk.main_quit()

def laat_EA_zien(source):
   print "show text 1"

def overzicht_EA(source):
   print "show text 2"

def verberg_EA(source):

2013-03-11 Thread Nelly
This bug is also regsitrated as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/1048657
It is not solved there.

I have the same problem.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and Gimp 2.6.12

A new GIMP image can be save under a given name with save as. When I try to
save an already named file under a new name with save as, GIMP crashes. The
file is saved under the new name before crash, and can be opened again and can
be edited.
If I use save as, but do not change the name, no crash occurs.

[Bug 1053783] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 - Stalled shutdown after having had KAlarm opened; with package info.

2013-02-18 Thread Nelly
Answer to Bladud (#10 + #12)

I have tried to run the command ps -el | grep nepomuk as long as
possible after the shutdown command (given with the GUI logout button)
using a BASH function giving that command every 2 sec and saving the
results in a file. After 20-30 sec. the termninal window disappears and
the function stops. I don't find differences in the result just before
giving the logout command and during these seconds hanging. I have
performed the test twice, once with the nepomuk functions working and
programmed to start in the next logon, and once after I had prevented
the starting of some nepomuk services at start-up (see #6). Surprisingly
the results of these two tests differed slightly.

The first test gave:

I first tried ps -e0 stat | grep nepomuk during normal run-time to see
what kind of results I might expect. It did not work.

0 S  1000  3520 1  0  80   0 - 14441 poll_s ?00:00:00 nepomukserver

The nepomukserverrc file had no effect omn the akonadi processes
running)

I added again the extra lines in ~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc and
removed the nepomukcontroller.desktop from in the map
/usr/share/autostart/. Shutdown was slow (all nepomuk processes were
still running) and the pop-up stating that an unknown process was still
running appeared again. After this restart the shutdown was OK again
(within a few seconds).

[Bug 1053783] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 - Stalled shutdown after having had KAlarm opened; with package info.

2013-02-11 Thread Nelly
I also have this bug.
I use KAlarm and my computer with Ubuntu 12.04 (Gnome desktop) took several
minutes to shutdown.

Link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1764048 gave me the hint how to
solve this problem. This link contains methods to prevent te starting up of
nepomuk and akonadi in 3 steps.
If you don't want to use KAlarm, it might be safe to apply all three steps.
However, doing so, KAlarm could not be used. It asked to start-up akonadi
first. So I tried what would happen if I only used the two steps preventing the
(complete) start-up of nepomuk, and that worked great. KAlarm works and Ubuntu
12.04 shuts down within a few seconds. The steps to apply are:

1. Add the following lines to ~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc (and
their sections if they don't exist) (change the value from true to
false if they do exist and are set on true;

[Basic Settings]
Start Nepomuk=false

[Service-nepomukmigration1]
autostart=false

[Service-nepomukstrigiservice]
autostart=false

2. Remove the file /usr/share/autostart/nepomukcontroller.desktop, if it
exists.

[Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare

2010-06-23 Thread Nelly
Hello,

I have the same problem.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04
VMware player 3.0.1 build-227600
I have had the problem now twice, so I cannot say much about the regularity.
setxkbmap works.
I am using this configuration for several months. The problem with non-working
SHIFT, CTRL and ALT keys occurred only in the last week. The only change in the
configuration (except for the usual updates) is: a new keyboard and a new mouse.
I have now a keyboard without a numeric keyboard (to minimize RSI problems, the
new keyboard is only 30 cm width instead of 45 cm, so that the right hand is in
a better position to hold the mouse).
And the second time I had this problem (I cann't remember about the first one),
the virtual PC had crashed, and when started again, it said it could not grab
the keyboard. I have had this message before (before and I believe also after
the keyboard change), without any consequences for the SHIFT etc. keys.

Hello,

In addition to my previous remarks (#218):
I had another occurrence. Just before, my Virtual PC crashed. It had some
message, but that disappeared before I could read it.

Re: [Bug 186883] Re: jockey-gtk crashed with NameError in install_package()

2008-04-04 Thread Nelly
I had this problem on an IBM thinkpad R31 when I tried to install b43
wireless drivers using the proprietary hardware driver alert on toolbar
after install.

I solved the driver problem by using synaptic to install b43-fwcutter -
perhaps it was something in the 260mb download of updates waiting after
install!
