I also confirm that what excalibas mentioned at
http://openchrome.org/trac/ticket/302#comment:5 that just plugging in
another card (in my case Geforce 6200) will solve all of the problems
even when I use onboard K8M890.

I have the same problem, tested on ubuntu 9.04 9.10 10.04 xubuntu puredyne and
fedora.

A strange thing happened,(Ubuntu Lucid Lynx) I plugged in an nvidia card
(just plug on the pci-e) but still use the onboard vga. the resolution
is 800x600 but the problems are gone.

If I unplug the nvidia the problem comes back.

I also confirm this bug in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

2010-03-20 Thread Nelsson
vga 771 alone doesn't seem to help.. I tried with xorg.conf option
DefaultDepth 8 under Section Screen and rebooted with only 256 colors,
but the square cursor bug persists.

[Bug 377402] Re: [K8M890]Square cursor with Ubuntu 9.04 livecd, during VNC connection

2010-03-20 Thread Nelsson
I had some trouble with the new build r841 so I reinstalled the whole
thing again. All of the bugs persist and I got some more problems.

Reinstallation in detail: I downgraded back to ubuntu's xserver-xorg-
video-openchrome 0.2.903+svn758-0ubuntu1... Then rebooted to console
(recovery mode), uninstalled xserver-xorg-video-openchrome, compiled the
latest svn from source. The result is that computer restarts and shows
the login window background, I typed my name and password without seeing
anything and apparently logged in. After login I got square cursor and
only white background, nothing to interact with.

I tried with Option NoAccel true and got similar results (although
slightly different looking graphical glitches).

I tried with Option AccelMethod EXA with and without Option
ExaNoComposite true - result was unusable desktop because of random-
colored pixels all around the screen. This time I could clearly see
where the edges of the windows were though..

As Xorg.0.log hinted of wrong version of DRI-drivers, I also tried to
upgrade some DRM/DRI-packages to newer versions from Ubuntu Lucid's
repository, but... got no working results.

Finally I downgraded back to 0.2.903+svn758-0ubuntu1 and got back where
I started.

[Bug 503674] Re: [K8M800]Screen resolution used to be ok in Ubuntu 6, not in 8.04 and later

2010-01-08 Thread Nelsson
Attached my xorg.conf, which worked for my resolution problems. It's
quite basic and the HorizSync-line is set on a correct place. I'm not
sure about the correct vRefresh-rate though (not sure about the
HorizSync-rate either, as I understood, monitors have differences...) so
you might want to remove that line.

For you knowledge, if you will not set HorizSync and vRefresh in
xorg.conf, and the system doesn't recognize the correct values for your
monitor, the system uses default rates. I think HorizSync's default is
very limited, something like.. what was it.. 35.0-36.0?

2010-01-06 Thread Nelsson
Open Office's icons do not show up. In mine sweeper it only shows the
brown closed squares, but if Open Office is the active window and the
window is moved over minesweeper's window, the squares in minesweeper
show like they should. The cursor is the white box with random-colored
pixels on top of minesweeper's window.

[Bug 377402] Re: [K8M890]Square cursor with Ubuntu 9.04 livecd, during VNC connection

2010-01-06 Thread Nelsson
I've tried now several versions of openchrome-driver, including Jaunty's
0.2.903 svn 713, Karmic's 0.2.903+svn758-0ubuntu0 and 904+svn826 source
from openchrome.org. Currently using Lucid's xserver-xorg-video-
openchrome (1:0.2.904+svn812-1ubuntu1). All of the mentioned packages
give the same problems (square cursor missing graphics). I'm using
XAA, not EXA (I've heard EXA is more likely to have weird graphics
problems).

[Bug 377402] Re: [K8M890]Square cursor with Ubuntu 9.04 livecd, during VNC connection

2010-01-06 Thread Nelsson
I was also asked to try if the same problems appear with Fedora 12 live
cd - and they do. The mouse cursor was a weird square and exactly the
same graphical problems appeared in minesweeper. I couldn't try if the
graphics were missing in open office too, because Fedora 12 live cd
doesn't have Open Office installed as a default.

[Bug 377402] Re: [K8M890]Square cursor with Ubuntu 9.04 livecd, during VNC connection

2010-01-05 Thread Nelsson
More details for troubleshooting:

- resolution problem existed in 9.04 too and was solved by adding
following line to xorg.conf: HorizSync 30.0-100.0

- the rest of the problems came only after an upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10.
- - missing graphics in several programs, e.g .Open Office: tool icons are
missing, menu texts are missing
- - square mouse cursor was present when upgraded to 9.04, but was fixed by a
patch (don't know which one though). The bug came again after an upgrade to
9.10.

- downgrading to default openchrome driver version in Jaunty (9.04) did not help
- - 9.04 uses xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (1:0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1)
- - http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

- upgrading to openchrome svn 826 did not help

- I confirm #23 that xorg.conf Option SwCursor true leaves a mouse
pointer trail

- I confirm that xorg.conf options mentioned in #24 do not make a
difference

- I also confirm #29 that changing K8M890 memory settings from BIOS
(64mb to 256mb) do not make a difference

[Bug 474151] Re: [K8M800]max resolution of 800x600 on MSI k8mm-v

2010-01-02 Thread Nelsson
I'm using Asus M2V-MX -motherboard with K8M890CE, max resolution
800x600. Ubuntu 9.10. The Square Cursor bug (bug 377402) also affecting
the computer. Open Office and several other programs fail to display the
tool icons. The usability of the computer is therefore at minimum.

Option modeSwitch new or
Option modeSwitchMethod new

does not make any difference - the same bugs exist.

2010-01-02 Thread Nelsson
I'm running Asus M2V-MX motherboard with K8M890CE. Ubuntu 9.10. My
problems also came after an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. I haven't yet
tried a clean install of 9.10.

The patchfile mode_set.patch gives this error:

2009-12-25 Thread Nelsson
Confirming the bug with M2V-MX motherboard with K8M890CE (integrated
GPU). Mouse cursor is an ugly block with random colored pixels, the
desktop size is too big for the monitor, resolution max 800x600 and the
whole system is quite slow. Perhaps related to this bug - Open Office
icons (for different tools etc.) do not show at all. I've tried
different BIOS-settings, but problems still exist. It's a really
troubling bug and not only a visual annoyance. Vesa-drivers do not work
at all, so can't even use them at the moment.
