[Bug 1647007] [NEW] overlayfs no longer supports nested overlayfs mounts, but there is a fix upstream

2016-12-02 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

Hi

When you mount an overlayfs in an overlayfs, you get really issues about files
not being found on the lower overlayfs
However a fix for this appears to have been merged into the kernel in master
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/c4fcfc1619ea43a8a89ad2f83ff23905eee088bd

In
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/c4fcfc1619ea43a8a89ad2f83ff23905eee088bd
there is a simple script to replicate this issue, where currently, it
returns "No such device or address"

Is there any chance that this fix can be backported into Ubuntu's
kernel?

but there also says something about 4.8 in the commit log, does that
mean that it is going to be backported to 4.8?

[Bug 1330785] [NEW] Weston on Nouveau displays black screen on Nouveau due to page flip issues

2014-06-16 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

Hi.

On Ubuntu 13.04, it seems that Weston displays a black screen, and the
screen stays black, due to page flipping issues in the Nouveau driver as
reported here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75761

It seems that these two patches do apply to 3.13, and fix the pageflip
issues, and it worked on my NV36 card: (One file I had to slightly alter
myself)

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied...751f25ebe60f28
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied...5b438629d6858a

I haven't been able to test on newer Nvidia cards because I don't have
any, but I might be hearing back from others that do have newer caard.

Is it possible that these can be officially backported in Ubuntu 13.04?

[Bug 1206760] [NEW] Zenity text windows too tall with long text

2013-07-30 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

It seems that with many versions of zenity 3.60 and below, 3 of the text
type dialogs ( --info --warning --error ) have significant sizing issues
with text wrapping enabled. Long strings of text seem to cause extreemly
tall dialogs

such as this first example
zenity --info --text Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there
friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas
dfas dfas df a adsfasfas

one workaround might be to turn off wrapping
zenity --info --text Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there
friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas
dfas dfas df a adsfasfas --no-wrap
but this can cause dialogs to be too large vertically

I noticed that by forcing the minimal width as so, (I pass 1, but it seems that
zenity uses a hardcoded minimum)
zenity --info --text Hello there friends. Hello there friends. Hello there
friends. Hello there friends. d d d d d d d d d d d dd asdfsadf sdf sad fas
dfas dfas df a adsfasfas --width=1
the height of the dialog seems to be the same as the first example. However,
with the skinny dialog, the full dialog is used, and the text is wrapped much
better.

Therefore, my guess is that when text wrapping is enabled (which it is
by default) for --info --warning and --error Zenity is wrapping the text
with the hardcoded minimal width, and calculating the needed height for
wrapping the text with the minimal width. However, zenity usually later
on uses a different much wider width when the dialog is displayed, which
therefore causes the text wrapping to use less height.

However zenity still ends up setting the height of the window to what it
would need to be to fit the text if the window was the minimal width, in
cases causing excessivly large and tall zenity windows.

This is just my guess from what I can see.

dialogs with --question seem to be sized a bit more sanely.

[Bug 1162511] [NEW] Allow Lightdm to lock the screen on automatic login

2013-03-31 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

Feature request.

Light DM's automatic login should allow the option that it locks the
screen as well.

KDM used to have this functionality, and it was great because it cuts
down the startup time without requiring user interaction, without
sacrificing the security of the automatic login being open to everyone
that has physical access.

[Bug 979066] Re: Wayland support

2013-02-02 Thread Nerdopolis
This still exists in precise when using the latest GTK git, somehow
these paticular apps don't detect the existing Wayland backend, unless
they are started with gdb, strace, or ltrace.

AND interestingly enough, for example if I copy gnomine out of
/usr/games into /usr/bin, and start it directly with /usr/bin/gnomine,
it works with the Wayland backend, but if I run it as
/usr/games/gnomine, it fails to find the Wayland backend...

[Bug 663033] Re: KDE RANDR KCM does not support two separate displays, most of the time

2010-11-14 Thread Nerdopolis
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
+ It seems to be the multiple monitors KCM for KDE that is not working for
+ some cards. Most of the time, dual screens only revert to a display
+ clone on my i915 box, but last I checked it works with Nouveau on my box
+ with an older NVIDIA card.

- It seems that the modesetted version of the i915 driver does not support
- two separate displays, I can get only a display clone, no matter what I
- try in systemsettings. However in the non modesetted version it works
- fine.
-
- I am trying this with the LVDS display, and a VGA cable monitor. (I
- have no displayport on this laptop, so I can't test the display port
- its showing.)
+ I tried ARANDR on my box with the i915 driver, and it was able to set an
+ expanded desktop.

Wait. Put this against the KCM... I got it to work with arandr, which
would mean that its not a bug in the driver.

[Bug 663023] Re: Display doesn't update, and sound gets distorted

2010-10-19 Thread Nerdopolis
I tried the 2.6.36 mainline build as suggested, and it seems to be non-existent
in that Kernel.
I could not test virtual box, as it did not have the virtual box drivers
I could not fully test it with network access, the w1 driver was not
installed, and I did not have time to use my wired connection
the firefox issue seems to be an issue with firefox, ( I tested it with some
HTML files on my drive)

The wierd thing is that it happens randomly, and does not have to be
under high load when it freezes, so I can not test a particular action

[Bug 663023] [NEW] Display doesn't update, and sound gets distorted

2010-10-18 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

My symptoms seem to be caused by what might be a timing issue, I think,
(but I could be wrong). They are the following:

This is on a new box with maverick, and I did not get to test it with
older versions.

The display goes through times where freezes, and does not update until
after a few seconds, or until the mouse is moves. It will continue doing this
for a short while, and then return to normal, and then after a longer time,
come back
the whole display, including the cursor freezes for a few seconds
sounds pause, and jump around, playing fragments that where already
played (and I can't be sure, maybe parts that come after). I had one time where
it was only sending sound from an app in short bursts where I was updating the
display.
scrolling in Firefox is weird, and I had it happen once in Konqueror too,
where it will not update when scrolled, but hover able elements, like links
would appear over the old display.
I once updated a virual box window by activating the window, and moving
the cursor across it. It acted like the scan line was attached to the cursor.
This happens with the i915 driver with and without modesetting

[Bug 663033] [NEW] Modesetted i915 driver does not support two seperate displays

2010-10-18 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

It seems that the modesetted version of the i915 driver does not support
two separate displays, I can get only a display clone, no matter what I
try in systemsettings. However in the non modesetted version it works
fine.

I am trying this with the LVDS display, and a VGA cable monitor. (I
have no displayport on this laptop, so I can't test the display port
its showing.)

[Bug 648324] [NEW] Flash installer fails if there is network.

2010-09-26 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

It seems that when there is no network connectivity when upgrades are
running, (and all the packages have been downloaded), the flash player
installer uninstalls the previous version of flash, and then tries to
download the new one, seemingly from a different server.

If it can't, it quickly dumps some output to the terminal, and the
upgrade continues.

When a web page with flash is loaded, firefox asks to install flash, but
the agent reports that the flash package is already installed

This kind of breaks the usage of apt-get dist-upgrade -d...

[Bug 515837] Re: wave files in Karmic cliped while playing

2010-04-29 Thread Nerdopolis
apport information

** Description changed:

It seems that in my Kubuntu karmic system, I am unable to play some wave
files, particularly short ones. Other formats seem to play just fine
such as .ogg files. This happens in the two computers I try it on (and
if I can remember correctly perhaps even a third). (one has a M5451 PCI
AC-Link Controller Audio Device from ALi Corporation, and the other has
  an integrated Intel one)

When I try to play a wave file, such as the k3b burning complete wave file
(/usr/share/sounds/k3b_success1.wav) (reproductivity of that file has been
100%, and it gets clipped in almost the exact place) some wave files I am able
to play completely, some aren't, and it seems that the shorter and smaller wave
files have a higher chance of getting cut short.

[Bug 515837] Re: wave files in Karmic cliped while playing

I found out that this is in phonon-backend-xine or one of its libraries.
I switched the phonon backend to gstreamer, and wav files play
correctly.

I discovered that there is one program that plays waves correctly. That
program is the 'aplay' command. I don't know how aplay defers from the
other programs I use to play wavs like amarok and the part of kde that
plays system sounds.

Its still doing it in Kubuntu Lucid. I tried a live CD from 2/26/2010.

I don't think this should be under pulseaudio, it seems Kubuntu doesn't
use pulse audio, and seems to me to be more of a codec thing.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

[Bug 512010] [NEW] Lucid needs to be run in safe graphics mode on a Radeon Mobility U1 card

2010-01-24 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

I tested one of the later Lucid builds off a live CD (one from
1/22/2010), and in order to get anything to display on the screen, I
need to go into safe graphics mode. otherwise it only has a blank screen
for the entire boot process, and even when it finishes loading, it stays
blank

My laptop is a Compaq presario 2100 with a Radeon Mobility U1 card.

I am reporting this within Karmic as my WiFi card requires additional
drivers. (in case if Launchpad automatically attaches logs this time)

[Bug 348776] [NEW] knetworkmanager dual wi-fi connection bug

2009-03-25 Thread Nerdopolis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

I have wi-fi cards one internal one (wlan0), which is too slow (broadcom
4306) and an USB one, that works fine with NDISWrapper.

In knetworkmanager version Candidate: 1:0.7svn864988-0ubuntu8 Qt: 3.3.8b
KDE: 3.5.10, Ubuntu Jaunty, I want to only use WLAN1 because WLAN0 is
too slow.

knetworkmanager always defaults to wlan0 on startup. I can enable WLAN1
easily, but whenever I try to deactivate WLAN0, it always retries to
reconnect WLAN0 again as soon as I click deactivate.

It only tries to reconnect WLAN0 when WLAN1 is activated. Whenever I try
deactivating WLAN0 with WLAN1 ioff/i however, it listens.

Also it seems to always send all network traffic over WLAN0 once its
activated, (my connection slows down), and seems to totally ignore
WLAN1.
