Typically, in applications that attempt to do vsync, there are two complete, correct buffers. The app then swaps the inactive (back) buffer to screen when the monitor is doing its vertical sync, (ie, not drawing to the screen) so that screen updates aren't visible to the user. If there's a problem with that code, it swaps the buffers in the middle of drawing the screen, and you see the tearing effect. So there's really nothing to check in the buffers, as they'll likely always be correct. The problem is a matter of timing: when is compiz or whatever window manager you're using swapping the buffers? [Bug 151674] Re: compiz+nvidia: tearing in xvideo (totem/mplayer/VLC/XINE)
I have something to add... I have done testing with compiz disabled... i move a dark window against a light background rapidly, and i get tearing... http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2005/vsyncbrokenlatesti386.png perhaps tearing is always occuring even with compiz off, but it is far less obvious. when you turn compiz on any existing tearing gets severly exxagerated. tearing also seems to occur with the open source nv drivers. something must be done. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2005/vsyncbrokenlatesti386.png -- compiz+nvidia: tearing in xvideo (totem/mplayer/VLC/XINE) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
