[Bug 1809117] Re: Screen corruption on "Lock Screen" or "Switch User" command
Further to comment 5, I've had a further look in the live environment and it appears the screen isn't locked out when I switch user - so I can use Ctrl-Alt-F{1..8} to switch between things. This suggests to me that the screen-locking code path isn't getting tested when I try this from the Live USB. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1809117 Title: Screen corruption on "Lock Screen" or "Switch User" command To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1809117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1809117] Re: Screen corruption on "Lock Screen" or "Switch User" command
Not a problem on live USB stick I installed from. I booted the live medium for Cosmic, set a password for the live user, created 'anotheruser' from the Settings panel, logged out and back in as the live session user. Clicked the User Menu -> Live Session User -> Switch User, and I was taken straight to the GDM login screen, where I could switch user to anotheruser. And I was able to switch back and forth between the live user and anotheruser without any issues. An oddity is in the live session the 'Lock screen' icon isn't offered even though the accounts are password-protected - only Switch User is present - which makes me wonder if I'm activating the same code path this way.
Despite my not selecting the option when I raised this, I do think this is a security issue because it can reveal on-screen data in a mode where it's expected it's all locked away. [Bug 1809117] [NEW] Screen corruption on "Lock Screen" or "Switch User" command
Public bug reported: Click the user menu (top right) and choose either the Lock icon or $username -> Switch User. I expected to be sent to a lock screen (possibly via a blanked screen or a screensaver - I don't know what normal behaviour is for Ubuntu 19.04). What happened was most of the Gnome shell was left up on screen, including all my apps that were running, along with the user menu with greyed-out Lock button. If I click the menu again, I get the cut-down version I would expect from GDM with only the option to alter volume and network connections. If I click the top bar again, I get a sort of shimmering version of the cut-down user menu superimposed on the original full version of the user menu that never went away. The favourites icon on the left dock are also clickable and hoverable, but they don't actually do anything and any tooltips are left imprinted on the screen. I can unlock the screen again by manually pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 to return me to the original GDM login screen, clicking my user picture and entering my password. I have an unlisted youtube video of most of this behaviour, except there's no recording of me switching to VT1 to unlock again (the recorded screen goes blank for that part). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjocsxBLUpE My assignment of 'gnome-shell' is a guess. As far as I know it could be related to gdm3, the X intel driver, X itself or even the kernel, or some nasty interaction between those. [Bug 1031350] Re: [quantal] no network resolution after latest upgrade of network-manager
I also had this issue after an upgrade from Precise, but /etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d was there. [Bug 381017] Re: Cannot drag attachment from mail attachment pane to desktop
A solution might be to implement the Xdnd Direct Save (XDS) protocol: http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/XDS Doing the job via XDS means Thunderbird can keep control of the saving process, can react and do extra things if a file of the same name already exists (e.g. prompt the user for a different filename and allow them to cancel), and it doesn't have to create a temporary file to pass to the file manager via a uri link. The following file managers, at least, support XdndDirectSave0 as drop targets: * Nautilus * Thunar * xfdesktop4 * rox-filer I imagine dolphin in KDE4 would support it too. The file-roller code ( apt-get source file-roller ) and 'gtksavebox.c' in ROX-CLib ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/rox/files/ROX-CLib/2.1.10/ ) are examples of how to to it in C. I can be more specific on request. In response to comment 88 (by karlt), explicit support isn't needed in GDK: see the source code examples I link to above. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde-baseapps in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381017 Title: Cannot drag attachment from mail attachment pane to desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/seamonkey/+bug/381017/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 858392] Re: Creative Live! Cam Video IM Image Corrupted
Sorry, it does seem to be OK now in Ubuntu Oneiric, in that it now starts off dark but then brightens into colour without corruption in about 30 seconds - I guess I should put that down to the camera adjusting itself to light levels rather than a kernel bug. [Bug 882710] Re: Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. NVRM: GPU at 0000:01:00.0 has fallen off the bus.
Ditto here - both screens go blank in Unity if I try to enable external monitor from the Nvidia settings dialogue box. I've also noticed that any windows that are minimised at the time I attempt to activate the second monitor won't restore when I click their Unity launcher icons or alt-tab once the display has returned back to normal. Presuming you can still log into the machine, it's worth first becoming root: sudo -i As asked in comment #2, please post the output of: df -h Then, look at the sizes of the directories in your root filesystem: cd / du -x --max-depth=1 . | sort -nr That will give you a summary of the disk usage in the directories directly under /, sorted with the largest first, in a file named du.out in /tmp. Please post that output. This should give you some idea of what's using the most of the space on /. Of course, you should check that /home is in fact on a separate filesystem with the command: mount If your /home directory is in fact in the root partition, look out particularly for large .googleearth directories (if you have it) and .xsession-errors files in users' home directories. Please report back your findings. Definitely don't go deleting files anywhere unless you are 100% sure they're not needed. [Bug 272457] Re: By default, firefox won't open some txt files
Some further debugging if it helps... Perhaps the below is unrelated - it appears more of a side effect or another bug uncovered by the presence of the original. I can open and read the file downloaded to /tmp in vi or gedit. If I double-click the entry in Firefox's Downloads manager (which is marked as Failed by the way), the file attempts to re-download and then I get a different error: /tmp/UbuntuCodeofConduct-1.0.1.txt could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location. So checking permissions... /tmp has drwtrwtrwt. /tmp/UbuntuCodeOfConduct-1.0.1.txt is, for some reason, read-only: -r 1 nick nick 4606 2009-02-21 17:50 /tmp/UbuntuCodeofConduct-1.0.1.txt A chmod u+w /tmp/UbuntuCodeOfConduct-1.0.1.txt, and double-click on the file entry in the Downloads list again, a new entry appears in the Download list, not marked as failed this time, and if I then double- click that the file opens in gedit, as I would have expected. [Bug 332868] Re: Conflict in Terminal result
It looks from the wvdial output like you're connected. If you are having trouble browsing, it could be that Network Manager isn't noticing the connection made by wvdial and is setting Firefox to offline mode. If this is the problem you are trying to describe, if you connect using wvdial as you have been doing, then open firefox and make sure that Work Offline on the File menu is *not* checked, you should be able to browse. The DISABLED ethernet interface is nothing to do with your wireless broadband interface, and can be ignored. That is related to your wired network port. If you haven't paid linuxant for the hsfmodem driver, the speed will be limited.
