[Bug 575452] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
After some hours of trying, I managed to get to an very nasty work- around for people not needing mysql, but needing apt-get to work. In my apt-get, it hung over the error as the first package, and just wouldn't continue. I couldn't find a way to disable it, but removed mysql with: sudo dpkg --force-remove-reinstreq --remove mysql-server-5.1 sudo apt-get upgrade hung at some packages of postgresql with a similar error, so I used the same way to remove those. errors with a package called man-db dissapeared (and it installed properly). I have to say tough, that I didn't check if the mysql files were removed completely, this could cause security issues, minor disk space issues, and huge issues when re-installing the packages, but it got my apt-get working again and that's all I'm concerned about. If you're an experienced ubuntu user owning a test server, I ask you to test the severity of the risks of this (temporarily) solution, since I don't have the knowledge to do this, and my server is a part-hobby part production server. -- package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575452 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 218529] Re: Gstrreamer problem
I do still not know if the problem I had is related to the problem that is described here, but I can supply you with a load of info from the last few hours. To answer your questions: The problem still exists in the newest version of ubuntu (intrepid ibex). Thus it is not solved. My sound hardware specification: Intel HD Audio and ALC880 googleing my hardware specification I found out that the hardware is a real pain in the ass for ubuntu. Other users experienced the same problem, and one even made a workaround. I solved my problem by following the first two steps of this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=195434 (after being redirected about 20 times), the guy thinks it is solved by upgrading the kernel, but since my kernel is newer than the one in the post (2.6.27 vs 2.6.16) I only followed the first two steps, and got my sound working again (after changing some of the volume levels in the volume manager). I hope this works out for some of you! ** Changed in: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- Gstrreamer problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 218529] Re: Gstrreamer problem
Hardy still opposes sound problems, can't try on intrepid since Ubuntu is my main os, and I don't change to the next one untill the stable comes out (30/10). All I can find out about my hardware in linux is that i use a realtek sound card, configuration doesn't matter (still gives the same errors), the configuration I use is standard. Gstreamer is a real pain in the ass, since many sound and video programs give errors blaming Gstreamer. I didn't have this issue with ubuntu versions before hardy. Sebastien Bacher schreef: what soundcard and audio configuration do you use? could you try if that's still an issue in hardy or intrepid? ** Changed in: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Status: New = Incomplete -- Gstrreamer problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 218529] Re: Gstrreamer problem
I probably have , more or less, related issues: 1. Sound volume is to low. I run a dual-boot system in Windows XP and sound is ok there, so don't play me the the maximum level is the maximum you can get out of your sound card-card, because it's simply not true. 2. I am unable to change the sound level by either the volume panel or the shortcut on by keyboard. The system shows that the sound level is changed, but I have no (noticable) change in sound. Lowering the master- volume untill it is muted, does actually mute the sound. Setting the volume with a player-integrated volume changer (for instance the one of rhthmbox) does change the sound level, but never above a certain very low maximum. All errors started with the introduction of ubuntu 8.04, and are rather annoying.
