[Bug 1872212] Re: grub-install: Operation not permitted

2020-11-25 Thread Night Train
Yes, @Jack Christensen (jchristensen), it’s the same for me too.
I found it interesting to read the explanation given at this link:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1170347/what-does-no-nvram-do-while-installing-grub

I hope it’s useful to everyone.

[Bug 1872212] Re: grub-install: Operation not permitted

2020-11-24 Thread Night Train
I upgraded with synaptic.
A window warned me that the EFI partition was not writable and GRUB could not
be updated.
If I clicked "next" without checking the box, then I returned to the same
message.
I checked the box and clicked on "next", then the installation ended without
any errors.
I rebooted and everything seems to be working.
Maybe the message window is to ask permission to write to the EFI partition.
But this creates confusion and unnecessary apprehension.

Unity is no longer a problem ... and Gnome has its own!

[Bug 1179915] Re: synaptic terminal window too small

2018-08-29 Thread Night Train
Hi guys,
the problem no longer exists until trusty tahr.

I would like to reiterate that synaptic is a fundamental application for
Ubuntu, since it allows to obtain a lot of information on package
management that the software center does not give and is a valid
alternative to using the terminal.

If I can add, a very useful function is that of real-time search for
packages, which is obtained only by installing the apt-xapian-index
package (python3-xapian), so it should be installed as a dependency.

Thanks again for everything you do.

[Bug 1005174] Re: HUD Service high CPU usage with Firefox

2012-12-14 Thread Night Train
on ubuntu precise pangolin 12.04 lts 64 bit
kernel linux 3.2.0-35-generic
gnome 3.4.2
ram 4 GB
Intel® Core™2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz × 2
graphics processor GeForce 9800 GT
nvidia driver version 304.64 (ppa x-swat)
indicator-appmenu 0.3.97-0ubuntu1.2 (precise-proposed)
unity 5.18.0-0ubuntu1 (precise-updates)
compiz 1:0.9.7.8+bzr3121-0ubuntu1 (precise-updates)
firefox 17.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 (precise-updates)

combination of:
firefox
unity-panel-service
hud-service
cause temporary 100% cpu and occasionally the block of pc
(at times is sufficient ctrl+alt+f1, but in other moment not even this and the
only way is power off!!!)

thanks

2011-10-26 Thread Night Train
hi guys

i have the same problems with vlc (but no with calibre, installed from
script) on natty 64 bit

what solution I can adopt to resolve?

from repository:
libqtgui4 is 4:4.4.7.2-0ubuntu6.3
and
libgtk2.0-0 is 2.24.4-0ubuntu2+overlayscrollbar2

I can hope in a backport?

or the sole solution is use qt4-qtconfig?

many thanks

[Bug 237426] Re: xsane crashed with SIGSEGV in sane_avision_start()

2008-08-28 Thread Night Train
hi guys

here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=474706
there is Debian Bug report logs - #474706
xsane segfaults when trying a preview or scan

my solution:
uninstall and purge xsane, libsane, etc. with folder .sane in home
download and install:
libsane-extras_1.0.19.10_amd64.deb
libsane_1.0.19-17_amd64.deb
sane-utils_1.0.19-17_amd64.deb
xsane-common_0.995-4_all.deb
xsane_0.995-4_amd64.deb
from repository debian lenny

now xsane it's ok when click acquire, but not when click on acquire
preview

on my ubuntu hardy heron 8.04.1 64 bit this problem affect only scanner hp
scanjet 5370C (another scanner epson perfection was ok also before)
(now kernel is 2.6.24-21 and gnome 2.22.3)

thanks

Also i have the same problem on 64 bit Hardy Heron with nVidia drivers and
using proposed and backports repository as software sources.
OK the workaround, but that ugly interface!
At least I can continue using Open Office (without Gnome support).

[Bug 197321] Re: wengophone (qtwengophone) crash when start a call

2008-03-27 Thread Night Train
Hi Ludovico

I experienced the new version, but the result is identical:
... callProgress: callId=1 state=4 from=sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
(debug) 12:41:15 virtual void PhoneLine::setPhoneCallState(int,
EnumPhoneCallState::PhoneCallState, const SipAddress): call state changed
callId=1 state=PhoneCallStateDialing from=sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
sVoIP_phapi_handle_ok_in
incoming OK message 1 0 (nil) 0
rtp_session_new: LITTLEENDIAN
Jitter in ts units 480:
qtwengophone: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/wengophone/libphapi.so: undefined
symbol: img_resample_init
and wengophone is closed.

If i force the version, with synaptic, from libavcodec1d
3:0.cvs20070823-0.0ubuntu1~upure64+1 and libavformat1d
3:0.cvs20070823-0.0ubuntu1~upure64+1 to official gutsy repositories, It
tells me of uninstall a lot of other programs like: blender, cinelerra,
dvdrip, ffmpeg, vlc, wengophone, etc.

How can I do?

Thanks.
