[Bug 223505] Re: update information is outdated displayed while Check has been performed lately

2008-11-19 Thread Nirmisgav
I believe that my problem is also connected to PackageKit, that was once
installed and removed (apparently impropriately).

When I run : apt-config dump | grep Post-Invoke-Success, I get :
APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success ;
APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success /usr/bin/dbus-send --system
--dest=org.freedesktop.PackageKit --type=method_call
/org/freedesktop/PackageKit org.freedesktop.PackageKit.StateHasChanged
string:'cache-update';

After I removed and purged all PackageKit packages like you said,
apt-config dump | grep Post-Invoke-Success returns :
APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success ;
APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success touch
/var/lib/apt/periodic/update-success-stamp 2/dev/null || true;

Which as far as I understand, is the correct command.

Thanks for solving.

Should this bug be filed against PackageKit ?

I have this bug lately in Hardy, and it was not fixed when I upgraded to
Intrepid Beta.

I minimized sources.list to 1 line,
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid restricted main multiverse
universe
and deleted everything in sources.list.d/

and that didn't fix the problem.
I always get the outdated message. Now it is 13 days, although I upgrade couple

Re: [Bug 240500] Re: brasero - error in burning audio files

2008-06-17 Thread Nirmisgav
Hi Pedro,

My wife wrote this bug-report and I failed to understand it from her
description, even though I was there when it happened :-)
So I believe you were not following either.
I will try to rephrase.

She was trying to write an audio disk couple of times.

First time, she filled the 80 minutes (and not more), than started to burn,
at some point she got an error message that the size is too big and in
consequence the burn failed.
Apparently the image size was 760MB instead of less than 700MB.

Second time, she decided to try with less songs, 70 minutes instead of 80.
Now the size was less than 700MB which is Ok, and the burning process ended
succesfully.
But, when she tried to listen to the songs with Totem, they appeared in the
list but unplayable.

Third time, we decided that there is something wrong with Brasero, and went
to burn with k3b.
k3b was also stating that the image size is 760MB, but surprisingly the
burning process completed successfully,
and all the songs were playable, so I started to think that the 760MB number
is just a bad calculation and the real size is inside the limit.

So I believe we found 2 separate bugs in Brasero,

1. Wrong calculation of the image size for some reason. (bug is shared with
k3b, but k3b finishes the burn while Brasero stops)
2. One burn that failed. Unplayable songs in the Disk.

I can try to reproduce the bugs, but which one of them ? (I already ruined 2
disks)

Thanks for listening.
Nir.

[Bug 240500] [NEW] brasero - error in burning audio files

2008-06-16 Thread Nirmisgav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

in brasero, I tried to burn an audio disk.
1) when choosing to burn a disk of 80 minutes, it allows more then 700MB of
data, where the disk is only 700MB (and then it fails when trying to burn).
also didn't find an option to change the settings of disk space for duration,
or see the disk space the file I choose will take up (only when it start to
burn).
2) after burning ended successfully according to brasero - the files on the
disk are not readable (no file name is shown and they can't be played).

2008-02-02 Thread Nirmisgav

~$ uname -a
Linux desktop 2.6.24-5-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 24 19:29:14 UTC 2008 x86_64

I do have a change in behaviour.
Now I do not have disconnections again,
Instead of that I just get random KERNAL PANICS!!! (all stuck and flashing
keyboard leds)

I have no idea if now it's related to the WiFi driver or not. (It's for
sure not related to Nvidia proprietary driver because I turned it off)

Please tell me what files I need to attach now, so we can find-out (core
dump?)

Thanks,

Hi, it took you some time...

Well, I have made some tests, the answer is Yes.
With the open-source nvidia driver, resume works fine.

Now I installed that ffmpeg package,
without the filename.srt, movie plays fine.
With the srt file, I get another error.
This time it is :

notes :
1. mplayer plays the movie with the subtitles just fine.
2. The subtitles are in Hebrew.

2007-03-23 Thread Nirmisgav
Public bug reported:

I have a filename.avi, and same filename.srt, that holds the subtitles.

When I try to load the filename.avi, I get the Error message :
GstPlayBin: A subtitle stream was detected, but no video stream.

When I remove the filename.srt, I get the Add/Remove application that
suggest me to install ffmpeg, and thats Ok.

In summary, the error happens when two conditions occur:
1. Subtitle file exists.
2. Movie codec does not exist.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
user-he: Depends: firefox-locale-he but it is not installable
Depends: hdate-applet but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

[Bug 59674] Re: gswitchit crash when logging in to GNOME

Happends to me too, but only when I choose Hebrew language in GDM.
With English language it works fine. In Hebrew language it collapses.

Attaching the backtrace.

Thanks.

I'm sorry if you see multiple messages. This is obviously bug in
launchpad because I uploaded messages (empty with file attached), they
were sent to me by email, but they are not shown in this site.

[Bug 61732] edgy knot 3, installer formated a partition I didn't asked for (windows ntfs)

2006-09-21 Thread Nirmisgav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I did manual partition,
gparted was opened, I used it to shrink my ntfs (windows) partition hda1 (20GB
to 16GB), and I deleted my ext3 partition hda2 (18GB), and created a new one on
all the free space that was created.
I didn't touch hda3 (extended partition) which inside has the swap partition.

After that comes the screen that ask what to mount where.
I changed /media/hda1 to /media/windows and verified that the check-box
'reformat' is unchecked.

I started the install, and the first thing I noticed is that the
installation is formatting the hda1 to ext3!!

I mounted the partition and it's empty indeed.

[Bug 59792] Re: Kernel 2.6.17-7-generic fails to boot, I get the BusyBox instead

2006-09-15 Thread Nirmisgav
Hi, I fixed the problem with dpkg, and did full dist-upgrade today.
But the boot has not changed. I get error messages, sometimes the 2 errors
about DMA, and I get a read-only filesystem.

[Bug 59792] Re: Kernel 2.6.17-7-generic fails to boot, I get the BusyBox instead

2006-09-12 Thread Nirmisgav
I have upstart installed.

in kernel 2.6.17-7 I get also these 2 errors lines :
[17179620.024000] hda: timeout waiting for DMA
[17179620.024000] hda: drive not read for command

and then (also in 2.6.17-6) :
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
#

When I chrooted to the file-system from dapper-livecd, the fs became read-only
every-time I tried to do dpkg --configure -a or apt-get -f install.
something went very wrong with my file-system...

2006-09-11 Thread Nirmisgav
I have also the error : /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
no more verbose than that.

The difference is that I get this error also in 2.6.17-7-generic and
also in 2.6.17-6-686 which was previously booting Ok.
