[Bug 50685] Re: Gfloppy will not successfully format a completely blank disk

2009-08-19 Thread Omar Shami
I can confirm this bug in Jaunty.

I cannot format floppies that have been erased by a magnet.

setfdprm -p /dev/fd0 1440/1440 does fix the problem, but it must by
done on every floppy that is inserted.

[Bug 355369] [NEW] Windows version of Firefox running under Wine won't minimize.

2009-04-04 Thread Omar Shami
Public bug reported:

When trying to minimize Firefox running under Wine, it just pops back
up.

It only does this if it is minimized while it is the foreground window, has
focus.
It will minimize if it is a background window, does not have focus.

It has been doing this on quite a few versions of wine.

Currently I am running version 1.1.18
I have had this problem on 2 64 bit and 1 32 bit machine.
All machines had the problem when they were running 8.10 and after they were
running 9.04.
Problem exists when desktops effects are enabled or disabled.

[Bug 350447] [NEW] Rythmbox cannot detect Meizu MiniPlayer

2009-03-28 Thread Omar Shami
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

After upgrading to Jaunty, Rythmbox no longer detects the Meizu MiniPlayer as a
media device.
Enabling the Portable Players - MTP or iPod plugin does not help.

Below is the lshal -m report when the device is plugged in.

Start monitoring devicelist:
-
11:23:02.363: usb_device_4e8_5a0f_00000 added
11:23:02.393: usb_device_4e8_5a0f_00000 property info.linux.driver =

11:23:02.912: usb_device_4e8_5a0f_00000_if0_scsi_host removed

It shows up in Nautilus as Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd MTP Device
I can read and write its files fine as a removable drive.

I get the same results on 3 different computers. All 3 computers were upgraded
to 9.04 from 8.10.
The player was working correctly in 8.10

Upon further tinkering, The Meizu MiniPlayer works correctly if I configure its
USB mode to be MSC instead of MTP
If anybody else has this issue, just go to Settings - USB Mode and set it to
MSC on the MiniPlayer

[Bug 287129] [NEW] 8.10 beta: Programs won't load shortly after first login.

2008-10-21 Thread Omar Shami
Public bug reported:

On the first login after a fresh reboot, the system will load programs
only for a short while.

For example:
If my IM is set to load on startup, it will load and work fine, but if I click
on Firefox or anything after that, it will not load.
Gives no error message.

If I log out and then log back in, it works properly from then on until
the next reboot.

I am having this problem on 2 out of 3 machines running Intrepid Beta.

The 2 machines are 64 bit and were originally installed with 7.10 then
upgraded to 8.04 and then upgraded to 8.10 beta.

The machine that is not having the problem is 32 bit and was originally
installed with 8.04 and upgraded to 8.10 beta.

I can provide any information you might need, just tell me how to get
it.

[Bug 260843] Re: Error Reading blist.xml with utf-8 characters in group-descriptions

2008-10-20 Thread Omar Shami
I found a workaround for this bug.

After reading the above comments about utf-8 characters, I looked at the
groups I had while shoeing all offline buddies and found a couple
groups that had special or weird characters in them. I moved all my
buddies out of them and then deleted the groups. The problem appears to
have gone away.

[Bug 216969] Re: Removable Drives and Media preference tool no longer contains preferences for drives nor media

Perhaps the Media tab from the Nautilus preferences can be mirrored in
the Removable Drives and Media Preferences exactly as it is preserving
the translations.

I can see good reasons for it to be located in both Removable Drives and
Media Preferences and Nautilus preferences as it is a function of
Nautilus, however it is a Removable drives and media thing as well.

[Bug 224384] [NEW] XMMS is missing in 8.04 repositories.

2008-04-29 Thread Omar Shami
Public bug reported:

XMMS is missing in 8.04.

In the 32 bit repos, it is not listed, however most of its plugins are listed,
some of the plugins will even install, but don't list xmms as a dependency.

In the 64 bit repos it is listed, but not available when you try to install it.
Many of the xmms plugins such as xmms-sid have the same problem.

In the 64 bit version, when you try to install xmms or one of its plugins, you
get the fallowing error:

xmms-sid:

Package xmms-sid has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and never
uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of
sources.list

[Bug 184226] Feature Request: Install all updates without confirmation.

2008-01-18 Thread Omar Shami
Public bug reported:

In the Software Sources under Updates and Automatic updates, it would be
nice to have a feature to install all updates without confirmation, not
just security updates.

This would be nice in a school or corporate environment or on grandma's
computer where you don't wan't the users to have admin access, but you
don't want to go around yourself and preform the updates.

[Bug 176889] Re: k3b 1.0.4 in KDE 3.5.8 doesn't verify disc after burning

2008-01-18 Thread Omar Shami
I am noticing the exact same problem. When it pulls the disk back in,
it just sits and doesn't detect it for verify even though it is mounted
fine.

Mine only has this problem about a third of the time.

I am using K3B version 1.0.3 in Ubuntu 7.10

I am not sure, but maybe it is an incompatibility with the gnome
desktop.

I would try a burning program for gnome, but there isn't any decent
burning software for gnome. (If it doesn't verify it is crap)

[Bug 72872] Re: Insert CD -- mounts with all file permissions -rwx------

2007-12-05 Thread Omar Shami
I have also noticed this problem. Also with disks burned on the Mac.

I have noticed this problem on thumb drives with files written by the
Mac as well.

It seams that Ubuntu is respecting the permissions that Mac put on the
disk.

It might be a good idea to ignore permissions on all removable media as
it is pointless to forbid access to something the user has physical
control over.

[Bug 164797] There needs an easy way to rename partition labels on removable media.

2007-11-23 Thread Omar Shami
Public bug reported:

There needs to be an easy way to rename disk labels on removable media
such as thumb drives and mp3 players.

Currently, they just show up as 'disk' or 'disk-#' unless I have renamed
them in another OS such as OS X.

The way OS X does it is by changing the volume name on the disk and in
the GUI, then the next time the volume is mounted, it gets the mount
point of the new name.

The gnome panel needs a feature that would lock the whole panel and
prevent it from being accidentally changed, moved or deleted.

A good way to implement this would be right click a blank area on the
