[Bug 1785434] [NEW] VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode

2018-08-04 Thread Ondra Žižka
Public bug reported:

Duplicates #1720901 VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode
As per advice in the original bug, I am cloning that one as a new bug.

Ubuntu version: 18.04 (most recent updates as of October 3rd)
VLC version: 3.0.3

What I expect to happen: When playing a video in VLC and switching to
fullscreen mode everything should work fine. Also when changing to a
different position of a movie in fullscreen I expect the player to just
switch to that position.

What actually happens: It seems to depend a little on the file type of
the video, mostly I get problems when going to fullscreen mode and then
switching to a different position with the playback position bar. With
some videos it was even enough to just open the fullscreen mode. The
video freezes just displaying a frame while the audio keeps playing. The
computer does not react any more to mouse or keyboard input, I have to
perform a hard reboot.

This problem only appears under the Wayland session, in the Xorg session
everything works fine as expected.

[Bug 1720901] Re: VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode

2018-08-04 Thread Ondra Žižka
I have Ubuntu 18.04 and VLC 3.0.3 and I am affected by this bug.
I also think that no matter what GUI API is called, the system should allow
quitting the app at worst. But not even Ctrl+Alt+Fx functions work to switch to
terminal.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-12-03 Thread Ondra Žižka
My observation: I tried to set the shortcut. Didn't work - didn't appear
in the dialog. However, after that, I am able to switch the layout, but
the icon at the top doesn't reflect that. It stays although typing is
affected. Changing the layout manually works too, and the icon reflects
it properly then.

I just wonder why is the system changing like this. I wonder why there
just can't be a distro which doesn't ever change it's UI dramatically,
and just updates the packages. There's either dinosaurs like debian or
red hat, or unstable experimental test beds like Fedora or Ubuntu. Or
extreme stuff like gentoo.

[Bug 1074866] [NEW] Wrong javaws alternatives setting after installation of OpenJDK 7

2012-11-04 Thread Ondra Žižka
Public bug reported:

I've installed openjdk-7-*.
After that, javaws complains:

$ javaws
/usr/bin/javaws: line 66: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java: No
such file or directory

The culprit is that alternatives had this setting.
After I've installed galternatives (BTW where's alternatives?) and changed
javaws to OpenJDK 7, it works.

[Bug 1071041] [NEW] Add Notification Area to Gnome shell top panel by default

2012-10-24 Thread Ondra Žižka
Public bug reported:

After installation of gnome-shell and switching to Gnome Classic, there's no
notification area (tray icon bar).
This is very confusing.
In combination with not-so-user-friendly way to edit panels*, it makes this
quite annoying.

For some apps the tray icon is critical (Pidging / IM in general,
printing icon, music players etc).

Hence, I suggest to add the Notification Area by default.

* `Alt+Win+Right click`. Took me a while until I struck this by accident.
Before that, I thought it's simply not possible.

[Bug 1053211] [NEW] Unfixable Package is in a very bad inconsistent state

2012-09-19 Thread Ondra Žižka
Public bug reported:

can't upgrade from 11.04. I've disabled all apt sources, but still I
get: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/6680/snmekobrazovkyg.png

The only option I am capable doing is to format and reinstall whole system,
which I don't prefer as I have tuned a lot of apps settings, etc.
After restart, when trying to update all packages, I get this error:

installArchives() failed: dpkg: error processing flashplugin-nonfree
(--remove): Package is in very bad, inconsistent state - before trying
to remove rather reinstall it.

Reinstalling it results in the same error.
I found a solution at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1485250 :

sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/flashplugin-nonfree.prerm

sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq flashplugin-nonfree
sudo dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq flashplugin-nonfree

But after doing that, the result is still the same.

The attachment.zip contained a file named:

The ellipsis is almost unnoticable and people can accidentally forward it to

Note that this has nothing to do with Firefox or Totem - none of them were
running.
But since I've seen forum posts stating that this is related to various
video-playing applications, it comes to my mind that it can be caused by some
screen-saver that tries to play video - if the screen savers rotate somehow (I
have set random screensaver).

Hi Chris,

I'll try to get the backtrace ASAP, however I am not able to reproduce on
demand.
All of requested information is in the atached zip, see my first comment.
