I'm actually on a ThinkPad z13 Gen 2, and arecord -l reports: ALC287
Analog. Only guessing that it's the same bug.

[Bug 1970116] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04 not installing on md partition

2022-04-24 Thread Oscar
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 22.04 server edition, using /boot and / as
separate partitions, both as md array, but it fails.

Looking at log seems that the installer is looking for a device that not exists:
 ValueError: Specified md device does not exist: /dev/md/md127p1

 but to me seems that it is looking for a malformed device name: from
the logs it finds correctly

   "device_path": "/dev/md127p1"

and in the shell I can look at it:

root@ubuntu-server:/# ls -la /dev/md*
brw-rw 1 root disk   9, 125 Apr 23 18:03 /dev/md125
brw-rw 1 root disk 259,   1 Apr 23 18:17 /dev/md125p1
brw-rw 1 root disk   9, 126 Apr 23 18:03 /dev/md126
brw-rw 1 root disk   9, 127 Apr 24 08:12 /dev/md127
brw-rw 1 root disk 259,   2 Apr 24 08:12 /dev/md127p1

Instead, in the /dev/md/ I find a "descriptive" name of the array, but
is not the name the installer is looking for:

root@ubuntu-server:/# ls -la /dev/md/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x  2 root root  140 Apr 24 08:12 .
drwxr-xr-x 20 root root 4860 Apr 24 08:12 ..
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root8 Apr 23 18:03 oscar-backend:41 -> ../md126
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root8 Apr 24 08:12 ubuntu-server:73 -> ../md127
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root   10 Apr 24 08:12 ubuntu-server:73p1 -> ../md127p1
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root8 Apr 23 18:03 ubuntu-server:82 -> ../md125
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root   10 Apr 23 18:17 ubuntu-server:82p1 -> ../md125p1

Also /proc/mdstat looks good:

2021-03-29 Thread Oscar Pérez del Campo
I guess this bug has been solved. As stated in
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues/776 by @rmeissn,
from gnome-settings, when the headset is connected, you can switch from HSP/HFP
to A2DP.
Once changed this setting my headsed sounds perfectly.

[Bug 1887592] [NEW] virsh list hangs because of qemu-system-i386 defunct so libvirtd has to be restarted

2020-07-14 Thread Oscar Alias
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

choix:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release:20.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'

choix:~$ dpkg-query -S /lib/systemd/system/libvirtd.service
libvirt-daemon-system: /lib/systemd/system/libvirtd.service

choix:~$ dpkg -l libvirt-daemon-system
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name  Version  Architecture Description
+++-=---==
ii  libvirt-daemon-system 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.1 amd64Libvirt daemon
configuration files

3) What you expected to happen

Have a manageable and usable libvirtd service after every boot of
Ubuntu.

4) What happened instead

After the installation of libvirt in Ubuntu, and following the reboot of
Ubuntu. Every virsh command or virt-install or virt-manager were
hanged.

5) Diagnostic

It is necessary to restart libvirtd so the programs like virsh can
interact again with the service.

Checking the process list, I found that qemu-system is defunct 'qemu-
system-i386 defunct'.

If I restart libvirtd, then it becomes responsive but if I reboot the
machine, then libvirtd hangs again.

I enabled the debug flag for libvirtd in /etc/libvirt/libvirt.conf

log_level = 1
log_filters="1:qemu"
log_outputs="1:file:/var/log/libvirt/libvirtd.log"

And found that qemu was not finding the kvm device when invoked by
libvirtd during the startup of the service.

qemu-system-x86_64: failed to initialize KVM: No such file or directory.

I could not replicate this on a laptop but happens every single time in
my PC with a Ryzen 3700X, X570 chipset, an NVMe and 32 GB of RAM.

6) Resolution.

There is a race condition happening between qemu-kvm.service and
libvirtd.service. Becase the debug flag of libvirtd pointed that qemu
was not findinf the kvm device, and it is created by qemu-kvm.service.

Therefore the solution was to create a drop-in for the libvirtd.service
to add an After key as follows:

```ini
$ sudo systemctl edit libvirtd
[Unit]
After=qemu-kvm.service
```

This will make the `libvirtd` to wait for `qemu-kvm` to complete before
starting.

Went ahead and enabled proposed updates, updated the machine and
rebooted, fractional scaling and display arrangement was remembered.
When logging into x11 there was a "big" flicker and display fragments
but cleared up once shell loaded. on wayland I dont get the options for
frac. scaling even when its enabled. I think thats a separate issue
though.

[Bug 1874559] [NEW] Fractional Scaling resets after reboot

2020-04-23 Thread Oscar Parada
Public bug reported:

During the 20.04 development fractional scaling will not stick after a
reboot, and display arrangement reset as well. Bug persisted in the
Beta, and now in the final release. I know fractional scaling is
"experimental" but i would think that it would persist after reboots.

[Bug 1869066] [NEW] says python3-debian isn't installed when it is

python3-debian is already the newest version (0.1.36build1).
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  fonts-mplus fonts-roboto fonts-roboto-unhinted libretro-core-info
retroarch-assets
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.

[Bug 1449495] Re: Meld hangs (waiting for DBus?)

2019-03-18 Thread Oscar Campbell
Can confirm I've had this for a long time now:

- Meld seems to work fine until I suspend the computer and resume. I'm
not two-thousant-percent-sure that is the exact cause, but... Then it
gets the DBus hanging problem.

- Sometimes shows diff after half a minute, most times I've aborted
because "nothing happens".

- Note, I use meld solely through a small wrapper script in my home-bin,
called by git diff: "git-meld" => `meld $2 $5` — but that shouldn't be
important for the issue.

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2018-04-07 Thread Oscar Parada
I was reading everything and I want to make sure this is the same issue.
When i install the nvidia driver everything runs, installs all good.
when i reboot, under the login i dont have an option for "ubuntu" and
"ubuntu xorg" im able to log in, theres screen tearing but ive managed
to fix that. however, when i select the intel option under nvidia
settings, i log out, then i get the choices. im able to log in under
"ubuntu" however, when i try to log in under "ubuntu xorg" it crashes
and i have to force it shut is this the same issue yall are having?

[Bug 1715552] Re: VMWare does not start

2017-10-26 Thread Oscar Fuentes
I confirm that the recipe listed by Patrick (thanks!) works.

Some additional notes:

It is necessary to re-run `sudo vmware-networks --start` if you reboot
the host machine.

I used the code in https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules.git
for vmnet/vmmon (checkout the branch vmware-workstation-12.5.7). This
includes the latest fixes to those modules, just in case.

The directory /lib/modules/4.13.0-16-generic/misc didn't exist on my
machine and I had to create it. Most likely this is due to uninstalling
vmware 12.5.7 and reinstalling it. The reinstall was not complete
because the problem described on this bug report.

[Bug 1715552] Re: VMWare does not start

2017-10-25 Thread Oscar Fuentes
Upgrading to vmware workstation 14 is inconvenient because:

1. You have to pay for the upgrade.

2. Version 14 only works on "modern" cpus. It rejects my cpu, which
otherwise ran 12.5.7 fine until I upgraded to ubuntu 17.10.

[Bug 1715552] Re: VMWare does not start

2017-10-25 Thread Oscar Fuentes
Patrick: are you sure you fixed the bug described on this report? The
commit you mention is for fixing a problem with memory handling, which
is a different issue altogether. This bug is about VMware WS 12.5.7
failing to start on Ubuntu 17.10. AFAIK WS 14 starts fine on 17.10.

Furthermore, the file hostif.c is different for 12.5.7 and 14.0, so
people shall take care of using the right one. Plus, IIRC, 12.5.7
requires changing two source files for fixing the memory handling bug.

[Bug 1665322] Re: LDAP-based sudo roles stopped working in 16.04

2017-06-01 Thread Oscar Carlberg
I reported the same problem in #1682104, another way to work around this
is to use the sudo version in the release version of 16.04,
1.8.16-0ubuntu1. Would be very nice to get this resolved since we cannot
patch the sudo package right now in our systems.

[Bug 1682104] [NEW] sudo rules based on group membership from freeipa does not work

2017-04-12 Thread Oscar Carlberg
Public bug reported:

When upgrading sudo package in xenial from version 1.8.16-0ubuntu1 to
1.8.16-0ubuntu1.3, our FreeIPA-based sudo rules suddenly stopped
working. We have setup a group in FreeIPA called ldap_nopass, and
configured hbac rules to allow users in this group to run sudo (without
password / nopasswd). This have been working fine up until now when we
upgraded the sudo package. Downgrading to 1.8.16-0ubuntu1 resolves the
issue. It also work with 1.8.16-0ubuntu1.3 if we set
use_fully_qualified_names = False in /etc/sssd/sssd.conf, but this is
not an option for us.

This led me to believe this issue is related to upstream bug:
https://bugzilla.sudo.ws/show_bug.cgi?id=757

And most likely is caused by the patchset from 1.3
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sudo/1.8.16-0ubuntu1.3

Unfortunately, 1.8.16-0ubuntu1.2 binaries seems to be deleted from
mirrors, so I cannot try this version.

I've included the auth.log file showing the difference using sudo
1.8.16-0ubuntu1 vs 1.8.16-0ubuntu1.3. Real username and domain has been
redacted to user.name and example.com

Please let me know if any additional information is required.

[Bug 1658401] [NEW] keyboard layoyt chart does not scale

2017-01-21 Thread Oscar Tiderman
Public bug reported:

The keyboard layout chart that can be seen when running gkbd-keyboard-
display, or through System Settings -> Text entry -> (Keyboard icon)
does not scale very well when scaling the display (System settings ->
Screen display -> Scale for menu and titlebars), I have it on 1,5
normally. Chars are cut off and not every one is displaying at all.
Resizing the window does nothing for the scale, and is very laggy,
freezing the entire dekstop for several seconds. It loooks really ugly.

[Bug 1587674] Re: [HP Pavilion dm1-3205au Entertainment Notebook PC] Wifi intermittently connects to router on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - Ralink RT5390

2017-01-15 Thread Oscar Carrillo
This is still broken. Lots of dropped packets, bandwidth is very low.
Works perfectly when dual-booted into Win7, and was working in 14.04
prior to 16.04 install.

I have had this working by compiling another driver in 11.04, 12.04,
13.04, and 14.04

Again it's broken in 16.04, but now there's not away to compile a
driver.

[Bug 1328260] Re: mighty mouse bluetooth not pairing

2015-12-15 Thread Oscar Xavier
I was getting this same thing with a Microsoft Designer Mouse but after
running `bluez-simple-agent` and using pin the mouse pairs and the
'New Device Setup' says "Succesfully set up device 'Designer Mouse'" but
it doesn't work. In the Bluetooth devices it says 'Paired Yes' but the
'switch' on Connection is set to OFF and is disabled.

[Bug 1461386] [NEW] pm-powersave is not triggered when unplugging charger

2015-06-02 Thread Oscar Tiderman
Public bug reported:

Not sure at all which package to file this bug against, hopefully
someone can help me tag the right package. There is no pm-powersave
event triggered when plugging or unplugging my charger, none of the
powersave scripts are therefore triggered. I'm on a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro.
This must be a regression in Vivid, has worked fine in both Trusty and
Utopic. I can manually run sudo pm-powersave true to trigger the scripts

[Bug 1450985] Re: NetworkManager crash when connecting to openvpn server

This only happens when IPv6 routes are pushed to the client, as soon as
we removed the IPv6 routes I could connect without any issues again.

[Bug 1434226] Re: infinite recursion makes kded5 use excessive memory

2015-03-28 Thread Oscar
How exactly? Sorry, I'm new here... Also, please notice that this is a
bug in kubuntu-notification-helper (kded_notificationhelper.so), not in
kded5.

[Bug 1434226] Re: kded5 suddenly grabs all the available memory and crashes

2015-03-27 Thread Oscar
Confirming this, after some minutes of use kded5 starts using all
available RAM and makes the system unusable.

I decided to do a quick debugging and used cgroups to limit kded5 memory
usage (to prevent it from freezing everything) and started paying
attention to the memory usage on KSysGuard, when memory usage started
increasing without control I sent an interrupt signal to the process and
attached gdb, and well, there it was, over 2000 calls to Hook::getField
from kded_notificationhelper.so which is provided by package kubuntu-
notification-helper. I took a look at the source, and I noticed that
after appending part of the locale to the field name it calls itself
again and again. I made a quick patch to the source code and now the
problem seems to have disappeared, however, I still don't understand why
this problem didn't happen before, I only started experiencing this 3
days ago...

** Patch added: Gets rid of recursion by calling another function to actually
search for the field in m_fields

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kded/+bug/1434226/+attachment/4358439/+files/hook.cpp.patch

** Package changed: kded (Ubuntu) = kubuntu-notification-helper
(Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- kded5 suddenly grabs all the available memory and crashes
+ infinite recursion makes kded5 use excessive memory
