2021-05-01 Thread osman d
According to "https://blog.bramp.net/post/2012/04/29/failed-ubuntu-
update/" I have found Broken package is "python-is-python2". I have
tried "apt-get remove python-is-python2" but couldnt find the package
and decided to run "apt-get remove python2*" it removed "python-minimal,
python2.7, python2.7-minimal" it looks like solved.

Public bug reported:

I have upgraded from 16 to 18 LTS on azure. While upgrading I did
change /boot/grub/menu.lst with the newer version and
not change /etc/ssh/sshd_config but the port number with the custom one.
Used these commands after reboot:
sudo su
apt update
apt upgrade
apt dist-upgrade
apt autoremove
apt autoclean
do-release-upgrade

Hello,
After installing the kernel and patches, my WiFi speed fluctuates up and down.

[Bug 1875354] Re: No more smb access after migration to UBUNTU 20.04 from UBUNTU 19.10

2020-05-16 Thread Mustapa Osman
I just found how to solve it but not the same as ubuntu 19 which has no
issue at all.

I have to rename my file from e.g

from for e.g master.event.200420.hdf.tvs-sv

to for e.g master.event.200420

Then only it works. but it did ask whether you want to merge the files (
even though it is a fresh or new file to be copy to the NS). Whats is
going on guys ?? I miss my Ubuntu 19. please help to fix this.

[Bug 1875354] Re: No more smb access after migration to UBUNTU 20.04 from UBUNTU 19.10

2020-05-16 Thread Mustapa Osman
Hello, I can transfer files to my NAS. Always error why copying. before
this I cant even access the smb server until i follow your
recommendation, edit smb.conf and add NT1. Even after the changes I can
transfer any files. I am using ubuntu 20.04 which i just upgraded it
from 19 which was working perfectly. All the people above bugs
reporting are , there some issue on Ubuntu 20 on accessing NAS server.
Please i am using for my office. we have 50 desktop here!!!..

So overall issues is

a) can access after editing smb.conf to NT1 but all my video file becomes a
folder name.MP4, avi, mkv etc.
b) I can't copy any of my files to my NAS. all error copying.

Urgently please solve this asap or I have to downgrade all my company
desktop.

2016-04-24 Thread Nathan Osman
Thanks for reporting a bug! In order to process this report further and
help pinpoint the issue, I'll need you to answer a couple of questions:

1. What release were you upgrading from? 12.04 or 14.04?
2. Where did you install NitroShare from? The stable PPA? The dev PPA? A DEB
package?

Once I understand exactly what happened, I can take a closer look at
what might have caused this and hopefully get it fixed.

[Bug 1542758] Re: Missing Ubuntu-specific build-dep: libunity

2016-02-06 Thread Nathan Osman
Just to confirm, the package should have a build dependency on
"libunity-dev". The CMakeLists.txt checks for the presence of the
package in order to enable customizations specific to Unity (though the
binary produced will work without Unity installed at runtime).

[Bug 871133] Re: Volume Step not changeable in Unity and GNOME desktops

2015-12-15 Thread Nathan Osman
"...just attached the patch done by Nathan Osman"

I didn't create the patch either, though I did need to tweak it a bit to
fix some compilation errors.

"First I see reports (mostly in the upstream report) that people are
getting 10-30% steps in volume instead of the defined 6%."

I know this isn't going to carry a lot of weight but I've been running
the modified package on my desktop for a couple weeks now and it has
worked flawlessly. Volume always changes by the percentage I choose. One
important question worth answering is whether the users observing the
10-30% jump modified the value from its default. If users leave the
setting at its default value, is behavior any different? If not, then
the issue only affects those who change the setting - users who are
likely willing to accept the issues anyway.

"Second using a linear scale for a volume slider is really not ideal,
pulse audio uses a cubic scale to define volume, but from a quick glance
at the source code it may be that g-s-d is plugging linear values into
these structures."

The patch doesn't change the expression used for calculating
norm_vol_step. It merely replaces VOLUME_STEP with the value from the
new setting.

I've linked my branch containing the patch and uploaded a Xenial build
of gnome-settings-daemon to the PPA mentioned in my earlier message with
the same patch. If the patch is accepted and merged, I will do the same
thing for unity-settings-daemon - but I don't want to take the time to
do that now if there isn't any chance of this getting accepted.

[Bug 871133] Re: Ubuntu Oneric Volume Step Can Not be Changed

2015-12-01 Thread Nathan Osman
I decided to take some initiative and apply the patch myself. Naturally,
it needed to be applied to both gnome-settings-daemon and unity-
settings-daemon. The new setting is exposed at "org.gnome.settings-
daemon.plugins.sound.volume-step" and can easily be changed with dconf.

I've uploaded the packages to ppa:george-edison55/gnome-settings-daemon

More information about my fix (and instructions) can be found here:

Since the patch attached in the bug report hasn't been accepted upstream
(and probably won't ever be), can we please add it to the Debian
packaging?

[Bug 1511628] [NEW] invoke-rc.d uses incorrect exit code

2015-10-29 Thread Nathan Osman
Public bug reported:

I am using invoke-rc.d on Vivid and have observed what appears to be
incorrect behavior. I have a systemd service installed that is masked
and I am attempting to use invoke-rc.d to obtain its status.

However, the exit code is 0, which falsely suggests that the service is
running. If I run "systemctl status myservice" directly for the masked
service, the exit code is 3, as expected.

This makes it impossible to determine if the service is in fact running
without resorting to systemd commands. I'm developing a package that
runs on releases that use init and releases that use systemd. The
packaging includes an init script and a systemd unit file. I need an
"init-agnostic" command for restarting the service in the .logrotate
file.

I dug a bit into the source code and found that line 407 contains "exit
0". I don't understand why anyone would want the return code for a
running service and a masked service to be identical. I assume this is a
bug.

[Bug 1441961] Re: dataChanged signal cannot be used on ARM under certain conditions

2015-04-09 Thread Nathan Osman
Aha! I have found the Qt bug that corresponds with this issue:
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-36129

This was fixed in 5.3.0 (which is the version Utopic ships with).
However, this doesn't help Trusty users since existing applications will
fail to work. Is there any chance that this fix could be backported to
Trusty? This is the patch that would need to be applied:
https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/81095/2//ALL,unified

[Bug 1441961] Re: dataChanged signal cannot be used on ARM under certain conditions

2015-04-09 Thread Nathan Osman
The old connection syntax appears to work fine. Also, I finally managed
to get Utopic up and running on the device and surprisingly, the problem
with my example has disappeared. However, it appears to be a compile-
time issue since anything compiled with Qt 5.2.1 in Trusty still fails
to work when run in Utopic. It must be recompiled in Utopic.

[Bug 1441961] [NEW] dataChanged signal cannot be used on ARM under certain conditions

2015-04-08 Thread Nathan Osman
Public bug reported:

This is probably the strangest bug I have ever observed, but it is
completely reproducible. When running the attached Qt application, I
receive the following error:

QObject::connect: signal not found in Test

This error is 100% reproducible on my Raspberry Pi 2 running Ubuntu
14.04.2 (Trusty). This device has an ARMv7 CPU (Broadcom BCM2836). I
cannot reproduce this error on any other hardware (x86 and amd64 have
been tested). This does not appear to be a compiler bug since both g++
and Clang produce an executable that prints the above error.

Here's the thing that really confuses me: the error disappears (and
everything works correctly) if I comment out the "dataChanged(...)" line
in test.cpp. This is completely bizarre because the line is never
executed by any code.

I've tried digging through Qt's headers and buried myself neck-deep in
macros, templates, and MOC-generated files. I can't make any sense out
of this. Therefore I am reporting it as a bug. To compile the example,
enter the source directory, run "qmake", and then run "make" to build
the executable. Remember, the bug only manifests itself on an ARM CPU.

2015-03-20 Thread Nathan Osman
I am seeing this exact problem with Ubuntu 14.10. I began with a clean
installation of ubuntu-desktop and later installed ubuntu-gnome-desktop
and kubuntu-desktop. After removing all but ubuntu-desktop, I am unable
to restore Firefox and Thunderbird's original font. I've tried removing
configuration files in ~ but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also,
creating a new Firefox profile didn't help.

[Bug 1410470] Re: ubuntu sdk reports that email domain is too long

2015-03-17 Thread Nathan Osman
I did some digging in the source code to try and figure out what was
going on. The relevant section seems to begin at
clickreviews/cr_lint.py:430. It appears that the maintainer email is
linked to the package name. Consider the following example:

Name: testapp.nathan-osman
Maintainer: Nathan Osman

On line 443, the number of components in the email address domain is
compared to the number of components in the packege name. If the former
is greater or equal to the latter, an error is generated. Keep in mind
that the number of components is used for determining if something is
"too long" so the number of actual characters is irrelevant.

I'm still assuming this is a bug, however, since this page clearly
states that we are using the correct format for the maintainer field:
http://askubuntu.com/a/417352/5

Public bug reported:

I have just performed a completely clean installation of Utopic from the

[Bug 848072] Re: [oneiric] net-installer dhcp client fails with a DHCPDECLINE

2014-07-02 Thread Metin OSMAN
Hi all,

sorry to reopen this old ticket (maybe I should open a new ticket, I
don't know the correct workflow), I am facing the same issue on Ubuntu
14.04.

I am trying to netboot using cobbler + PXE + TFTP, everything works fine except
that DHCP auto configuration fails.
I can see on the logs that every DHCP offers is rejected with DHCP decline.

I have tried to modify /sbin/dhclient-script as initially proposed by
Jacob Strauss without success.

Please let me know what relevant data you need to help me.

Thanks

[Bug 1317947] [NEW] Please update StackApplet to v1.5.2

2014-05-09 Thread Nathan Osman
Public bug reported:

The current version of StackApplet uses version 1.x of the Stack
Exchange API. Unfortunately this version will soon be shutting down in
favor of v2.x. I have issued a new release of StackApplet (1.5.2) that
switches to the new version and I was wondering if it would be possible
to have this new version uploaded. Essentially nothing else has changed
in this release, so this is a "future bug fix" release.

[Bug 1294940] [NEW] Text.AlignJustify does not properly justify text

2014-03-19 Thread Nathan Osman
Public bug reported:

Consider the following QML scene:

import QtQuick 2.0

Rectangle {
width: 200
height: 200
color: "white"

Text {
anchors.fill: parent
anchors.margins: 10
horizontalAlignment: Text.AlignJustify
text: "aa aa aaa aaa" +
"aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa " +
  "aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa"
wrapMode: Text.WordWrap
}
}

Attempting to run the file in qmlscene results in the attached
screenshot. Clearly the text is not justified (as one would expect) and
is instead left-aligned.

The offending commit is in somewhere between v2.6.35 and v2.6.39. I have
used these commands.

git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
cd linux
git checkout v2.6.35
git bisect start
git bisect good v2.6.35
git bisect bad v2.6.39
cp /boot/config-`uname -r` .config
yes '' | make oldconfig
make menuconfig
make clean
make -j `getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN` deb-pkg LOCALVERSION=-custom

Finally the .deb files did not created. Last lines of the output:

[Bug 1078068] Re: Video blinking blue during incoming call

2013-09-18 Thread Nathan Osman
I am having this problem as well with an old Dell notebook running
Xubuntu 12.04.

'lspci' output:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)

This only seems to happen with the latest version of Skype (4.2.0.11-1).
Installing an older version of Skype (2.2.0.35-1) solved the problem
(although it introduced some others).

The webcam is a Microsoft LifeCam VX-2000 connected via USB if that
helps at all.

[Bug 264336] Re: pgsql fails to start due to shared buffer setting greater than kernel allows

2013-08-26 Thread Nathan Osman
This is still not fixed. I just installed postgresql-9.1 on a brand new
installation of Ubuntu 13.04 (64-bit) and received the following error
when attempting to start the server:

 * Starting PostgreSQL 9.1 database server
 * The PostgreSQL server failed to start. Please check the log output:
2013-08-26 11:40:41 PDT FATAL: could not create shared memory segment:

2013-08-26 11:40:41 PDT DETAIL: Failed system call was shmget(key=5432001,
size
=41263104, 03600).
2013-08-26 11:40:41 PDT HINT: This error usually means that PostgreSQL's
reques
t for a shared memory segment exceeded your kernel's SHMMAX parameter. You
can
either reduce the request size or reconfigure the kernel with larger
SHMMAX. To
reduce the request size (currently 41263104 bytes), reduce PostgreSQL's
shared
memory usage, perhaps by reducing shared_buffers or max_connections.
If the request size is already small, it's possible that it is less than
your kernel's SHMMIN parameter, in which case raising the request size or
recon
figuring SHMMIN is called for.
The PostgreSQL documentation contains more information about shared memo
ry configuration.

[Bug 1215734] Re: GDM ignores keyboard input in lock screen

2013-08-23 Thread Nathan Osman
After some further investigation, it appears that the keyboard input is
actually captured by the application running in the foreground behind
GDM. So if I leave a text editor open, lock the display, come back later
and try to enter my password, whatever I type on the keyboard is entered
into the text editor and not the password entry box in GDM.

[Bug 1215734] [NEW] GDM ignores keyboard input in lock screen

2013-08-16 Thread Osman Çaylak
How can I reverse commit bisect the mainline kernel? Am I mistake good
and bad revs?

Maybe you mistake good and bad revs?

[Bug 1080308] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad Y560p] Micro freezes without noapic

2013-08-14 Thread Osman Çaylak
The freezes are not appears on Maverick.

I have Raring installed on my HDD. And I have tested this kernel:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.11-rc5-saucy/
The freezes are not appears on this kernel without noapic.
But I noticed a sound issue. I have tried a game named Limbo. After playing a
few minutes sound has muted. This thing is running with Wine.

If I see any issue, I will write here.

Thanks.

[Bug 1180196] [NEW] qmake -query is reporting the default Qt version as 4.8.4

2013-05-14 Thread Nathan Osman
Public bug reported:

I have installed the qt5-default package. However, running "qmake
-query" results in the following output:

...
QMAKE_VERSION:2.01a
QT_VERSION:4.8.4
...

It would appear as if the default Qt installation is improperly set to
Qt 4.8.4 (which I happen to have installed). Running "which qmake"
confirms this:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/bin/qmake

I am currently running Kubuntu 13.04 (64-bit) which I upgraded to from
Quantal. When using Quantal, I had installed Qt5 from the Qt5-Edgers
PPA. However, I have removed the PPA from my system (although that was
really unnecessary since there are no packages for Raring in the PPA). I
have reinstalled the qt5-defaults package a number of times but nothing
changes.

[Bug 1179997] Re: stackapplet 1.4 broken, please bump the version in the Ubuntu Software Center

2013-05-14 Thread Nathan Osman
@Andrew
Sadly, there were a lot of major changes made to the source code between those
two releases. These include:

* Switching from a GTK+ dialog for configuring the applet to an AJAX-based
webpage.
* Moving all blocking network calls to a separate thread.
* Support for the Messaging Menu.

That being said, I looked through the commits that were made immediately
after the 1.4 release and revision #63 seems to be the most significant
- particularly where I corrected the URL that opens when an item is
selected. The old URL was retired a long time and leads to a 404 page.

Hope that helps.

[Bug 1129517] [NEW] blueman package missing dependency on gnome-icon-theme

2013-02-18 Thread Nathan Osman
Public bug reported:

The blueman applet is not functional without the gnome-icon-theme
package on KDE. Running the 'blueman-applet' command results in the
following error message:

Icon 'gtk-missing-image' not present in theme
