This as been fixed upstream. Reason is thread management change in glib2 2.31. Same problem for me with the 32bit game installer that use Gtk. The sleep 1 in kdm.conf also fix the problem for me. The fix for 544590 (kernel 2.6.32-23.37) do not change anything for me, the bug is still there after upgrade. Kubuntu 10.4, ATI 5770, fglrx I have the same problem since I upgrade to Lucid. It occur randomly only one or two time a week, other boot are fine. It stuck at the Plymouth screen and need to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot. It always boot normally the second time.
