[Bug 1499929] [NEW] Laptop turns off while it shouldn't

2015-09-25 Thread Patrik Bubák
Public bug reported:

[SUMMARY]

I've configured power management so that when the laptop is connected to
a power source and the lid is closed it SHOULDN'T suspend, yet it does.

This is a very old and very annoying bug present in earlier versions.

[IMPACT]

Imagine you are working in an environment where you are regularly
down-/uploading bigger files. You would need to leave the computer
running over night for this purpose but cannot with the lid closed.

[REPRODUCTION]

Open Gnome Tweak Tool > Power settings > set to do nothing after lid is
closed when connected to AC > close lid > watch it suspend while it
shouldn't

[Bug 1443456] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in fbBltOne()

2015-09-21 Thread Patrik Bubák
I hope Vivid, although EOL in January AFAIK, could get the fix. Users of
Ubuntu GNOME like myself would particularly benefit from it, since I
wouldn't have to be stuck at 3.10 on the LTS.

[Bug 1474254] [NEW] Microphone doesn't record any sound in VoIP apps like Skype

2015-07-14 Thread Patrik Bubák
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

I am unable to perform any sort of communication involving VoIP on this
Lenovo computer.

[Test case]

I've tried apps like Skype, Hangouts (web), Telegram Desktop, no sound
is recorded, the other side cannot hear me or if they can, then silent
and distorted.

Recording voice via Audacity works flawless.

Previous kernel versions were unaffected at some point, then the bug
appeared I believe in k3.16.*, k3.13.* should not be affected.
Everything from 3.19.* upwards is.

[Troubleshooting]

This has been discussed via Ubuntu Forums in suspicion it might be
related to recent BIOS upgrades/changes, but was concluded it should
have no impact http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2285503

[Bug 1468664] Re: Whole session crashes after opening LibreOffice in 15.04

2015-07-08 Thread Patrik Bubák
Chris, I don't understand what could I possibly do wrong, since I did
exactly what was asked of me - right after the crash I opened /var/crash
via Nautilus as root, found one error report that was a huge file (5 MB)
and uploaded it here.

The settings for automatic bug reporting via Apport are always the first
thing I set up on my Ubuntu system for immediate upload to Launchpad -
it's the way this bug report was uploaded.

I will do what is asked of me and open Libreoffice for it to crash again
and have Apport collect the data and generate a new one. I wanted to
skip this step initially not to flood Launchpad with duplicates.

I will file a new bug report soon.

Thank you.

[Bug 1471672] [NEW] Setting image as wallpaper uses Wallpaper mode by default, not the default specified

2015-07-06 Thread Patrik Bubák
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Setting the wallpaper scales it down incorrectly, not accepting defaults
in system settings.

[Test case]

Open up Gthumb select an image right-click and choose set as
wallpaper image will be scaled incorrectly to wallpaper mode instead
of the specified zoom mode.

This makes it very annoying to set an image via Gthumb but then having
to open the tweak tool every time to correct the display mode.

Using other image viewers such as EOG doesn't produce this error.

[Bug 1468664] Re: Libreoffice crashing the whole session in 15.04

2015-07-05 Thread Patrik Bubák
So Chris, I did as you said, had to re-install the computer for Windows
and go back to Linux (safest way) went through the trouble of almost
breaking my computer due to what seemed as a broken update for my BIOS,
but luckily was only a config reload failure, which I managed to
restore.

The output of the command suggested is:

A2CN36WW(V2.04)
04/30/2015

That's my current (latest) BIOS version, no additional ones provided.

I again attempted to launch any part of Libreoffice, but the same
happens, i.e. I launch Libreoffice dark screen system crash I am

[Bug 1468664] Re: Libreoffice crashing the whole session in 15.04

2015-07-02 Thread Patrik Bubák
Björn, I cannot do any such debugging, because the moment I open any
part of the Libreoffice suite the system completely crashes. This
happens only with Libreoffice, no other program.

Christopher, I have tried to update my BIOS, but I am not running a copy
of Windows on this machine and when I turned to Lenovo they just said I
should install Windows. I opened up this thread at Lenovo's official
boards https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Ubuntu-14-04-2
-BIOS-update-for-G50-45/td-p/2083148 asking for guidance on how to
update my BIOS safely, writing down exactly what I've tried and without
success, as the BIOS update for my laptop doesn't come with a flashing
utility, just a standalone .exe file that cannot be run from a Live
Session of FreeDos.

There is no Linux tool to help me with the upgrade and as we all know
flashing BIOS is risky, especially if there is no specific tool. I have
asked also via AskUbuntu if flashing via Windows 7 LiveCD would work, to
this day I haven't received a response.

If there is a safe and easy to do method of upgrading my BIOS I will
gladly do it, because currently I can't enable virtualization among
other things.

I found my old legit copy of Win 7 Ultimate, installed, wanted to update
BIOS to the latest version, update failed and now the computer needs to
be serviced.

I will report after I get it fixed.

[Bug 1468664] Re: Libreoffice crashing the whole session in 15.04

2015-07-02 Thread Patrik Bubák
There were people responding on AskUbuntu having the same issue with the
same configuration as me, and a couple of others as well.

I will try again once I get my laptop back and in the meantime perhaps
more people will be able to reproduce the issue.

The issue was spotted even in kernel 4+.

Thank you so far.

[Bug 1470130] [NEW] Modifier keys don't change keyboard layout

2015-06-30 Thread Patrik Bubák
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

I am unable to change keyboard layouts with the help of modifier
shortcuts assigned from the list. Most frequently I used to use only
Right Shift for layout switching, but tested also all the other options
from the menu and none of them work.

This has major impact on users using multiple keyboard layouts (myself
using up to 5 typically) and switching between them quickly is
important.

Though there are bug reports for earlier versions also, some of them
marked as Fix Released, the issue persists in Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 w/
GNOME 3.14.

all the known workarounds, the only one working is forcing an upgrade
via terminal.

[Bug 1323593] Re: Unattended upgrades crash

2014-07-17 Thread Patrik Bubák
No can do Alex, sorry. Xubuntu 14.04 went progressively too slow on me,
was barely usable after latest changes (additions to Xubuntu with
version 14.04) and as I needed something productive quick I went with
default (Unity) and don't have that error report anymore.

I'll keep that in mind and will post any additional error logs for the
future. The reason I haven't was I had hoped that by using ubuntu-bug
package everything gets attached.

SUMMARY: What happens is that the laptop often loses connection on a
local wireless network that is properly set up. Other devices are
connected to the same network without any issues even when the
connection drops on my device. Even my Android phone maintains the
connection nicely.

This occurs with random devices and random networks and is an ongoing
issue that has lasted throughout many kernel cycles and needs to be
addressed.

[Bug 1334721] [NEW] Multicore rendering causes performance issues

2014-06-26 Thread Patrik Bubák
Public bug reported:

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games/issues/1739

I've had an issue on my system with most games with the Multicore
Rendering feature, even though disabled in most cases the performance
for the same game on Windows 7 was significantly lower, the game was
unplayable.

The current version I'm running is 10.1.3 on Ubuntu 14.04 x64.

I'll provide the necessary logs just post the commands for them. It was
difficult for me to trace the exact package via ubuntu-bug.

[Bug 1334716] Re: FATAL ERROR: Unable to initialize display

2014-06-26 Thread Patrik Bubák
What happened was that everything from the screen disappeared - the
panel, launcher - only the wallpaper remained. It was impossible to
launch any application, the only possible solution was to enter TTY
(standard mode by hitting CTRL+ALT+F1).
