[Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-07-11 Thread Pau Oliva
Mathieu: ¿Can you revert the patch? it's breaking everyone else's wifi,
I will think of a different approach to try to workaround the specific
issue on BCM4353 with wl driver (maybe it's better to submit a patch to
the wl driver itself).

[Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-21 Thread Pau Oliva
This is a better patch, which fixes the driver_wext in wpasupplicant
when using broadcom's wl driver and shouldn't have effect when using any
other underlying wifi driver, this is adapted from here to the current
version of wpasupplicant in ubuntu:

http://lists.shmoo.com/pipermail/hostap/2011-March/022891.html

With this patch, the time to wait after a suspend when using
networkmanager is around 12 seconds, i think it's an acceptable
alternative if the patch gets included in ubuntu's wpasupplicant
package.

[Bug 638303] Re: Don't give up scanning so easily

2012-05-21 Thread Pau Oliva
I have adapted the v4 patch above to the current version of
wpasupplicant (0.7.3):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpasupplicant/+bug/994739/comments/13

Please consider integrating this, as the wl driver is being used in a
wide variety of hardware.

[Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-21 Thread Pau Oliva
Thanks Andrea, I have gone through the wiki steps and pushed the branch
to Launchpad:

https://code.launchpad.net/~poliva/ubuntu/precise/wpasupplicant/fix-
for-994739

I have not contacted upstream directly, as the development of
wpasupplicant 0.7.3 is stopped (wpasupplicant stable is now 1.0) and a
very similar patch to this was not accepted upstream when Kalle Valo
(kvalo) submitted it in March 2011.

[Bug 994739] Re: wireless takes several seconds longer to connect from standby

2012-05-17 Thread Pau Oliva
Finally found the root reason of the problem! :-)

Both wl (broadcom proprietary driver) and brcmsmac (the open source
driver) are installed, in 11.10 this wasn't a problem since the
brcmsmac was not blacklisted, and even if the wl driver was loaded, it
failed silently and brcmsmac was used instead.

In 12.04, the wl driver has been updated to version 5.100.82.38+bdcom-
0ubuntu6.1 which includes the following fix:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/873117/comments/36

that basically blacklists the brcmsmac module, forcing the wl
proprietary driver to be in use.

When the wl driver is in use, resume takes 30 seconds to associate to
the network, but when the brcmsmac driver is in use, it just takes 5
seconds.

I just blacklisted the 'wl' module, and happily using the brcmsmac now
in 12.04, without any issues. Problem solved!

I have the same issue here, MacBookAir4,2 with a Broadcom BCM43224
802.11a/b/g/n using 'wl' driver.
It takes around 30 seconds to connect to the wireless network after suspend in
12.04, while in 11.10 it was barely 5 or 6 seconds.

2012-05-15 Thread Pau Oliva
I've attached log of network-manager with debug enabled on both 11.10
and 12.04, notice the differences between both logs.

I don't know if it's related, but on ubuntu 12.04 the 'iw' command is
broken and complains about missing nl80211.

The issue is not related to nl8021: modprobing 'mac80211' makes 'iw'
command work correctly, but the issue with network-manager taking too
long to re-connect still exists.

Any help fixing this would be appreciated.

[Bug 873787] Re: Banshee does not start

2011-11-16 Thread Pau Oliva
The crash is produced when the gconf key
/apps/banshee-1/interface/panes/albumartist/browser/top/position is set
to 0.

When this key is set to 0, banshee will not start anymore.

To reproduce the bug:

1. drag the window separator to the most upper side possible.
2. Banshee will start consuming a lot of CPU, and should be killed.
3. After dragging the window it will show the output pasted below.
4. When you try to start banshee again, it will not start.

Please see the attached screenshot showing how to reproduce it.

[Bug 229229] Re: Right mouse wheel tilt kills xorg

2008-06-04 Thread Pau Oliva
The bug is in xserver-xorg-core, not in xserver-xorg-input-devdev as
reported originally.

I got it to work by rebuilding this package from source, and applying
the patch from Adam Jackson from 25 Mar 2008.

[Bug 210839] Re: missing marvell sd8xxx driver

2008-04-19 Thread Pau Oliva
To properly fix this bug, please add the Marvell modules to the debian
config file and recompile the binary package.

CONFIG_MMC_SD8686=m
CONFIG_MMC_SD8688=m

Then add the marvell firmware too, which can be downloaded from marvell website
here:
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=200pId=38

It should be placed in /lib/firmware/mrvl/ directory.

I have tested the SD8686 module on HTC Shift UMPC and it works like a
charm, I know there are only 5 days left, but it would be nice if you
can fix this bug before 8.04 final is released.

[Bug 210839] Re: missing marvell sd8xxx driver

2008-04-11 Thread Pau Oliva
Ok, tired of waiting I have compiled the package from source and found
what is missing:

1) In ubuntu-hardy-lum/debian/config/i386 add the line CONFIG_MMC_SD8686=m
2) Then compile it using 'dpkg-buildpackage', the resulting module will be in
ubuntu-hardy-lum/debian/build/build-386/wireless/marvell/8686_wlan/sd8686.ko

[Bug 210839] [NEW] missing marvell sd8xxx driver

2008-04-02 Thread Pau Oliva
Public bug reported:

The Marvell M-WLAN Driver is missing in linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24.

In Ubuntu 8.04 beta, this package does not have the /lib/modules/$(uname
-r)/ubuntu/wireless/sd8686/sd8xxx.ko module, found in previous version
(ubuntu 7.10).

However after extracting the source package I can see that it is in
/ubuntu/wireless/marvell/ directory, but for some reason not included in
the binary release of the package.

[Bug 93914] Re: Tilda X crash

2007-11-19 Thread Pau Oliva
I had the same problem on Ubuntu 7.10 (fresh install) and tilda
0.09.4-4:

$ tilda

(tilda:10582): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_set_geometry_hints: assertion
`GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
The program 'tilda' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'.
  (Details: serial 11 error_code 10 request_code 33 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Then I launched tilda as root using 'gksudo tilda' and it started
properly but I couldn't use the default keybinding (NONE+F1) to launch
it. So this made me think the problem was caused because I had the F1
key customized in System - Preferences - Keyboard Shorcuts.

The solution is to change the tilda key binding on ~/.tilda/config_0 or
to remove the custom key binding in Gnome settings that uses the same
key binding as tilda.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more testing to reproduce the
bug.
