[Bug 1363785] Re: package icedtea-netx:amd64 1.5.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2014-11-02 Thread Paul Dooley
Remember when using the workaround in post #14 to change amd64 to
i386 if you are using a 32-bit installation...did this and dependency
fixed (running an old P4 system!).

[Bug 595321] Re: Sata drives not detected by 2.6.35.* kernels

I have this problem with Sandisk SSD on a 2 port SATA/PCI card. Works
fine with a standard SATA drive but fails with the above error with the
SSD. Ubuntu 14.04.1 32-bit.

I can confirm that mounting all available partitions prior to starting
Ubiquity gets round the problem. I have an SDD with three primary and
one extended partitions.

As far as I can determine the poulsbo stub driver serves no useful

[Bug 945972] [NEW] Lid closure not detected

2012-03-03 Thread Paul Dooley
Public bug reported:

Since the recent fix to resolve problems with the power indicator not
accurately reflecting the power status, suspend mode is no longer
entered on lid closure, despite the power settings being set
appropriately. Suspend/resume functions correctly when initiated via
the key board and the lid closure event is correctly reported by upower.

The system is an Acer Aspire One 751h with the infamous (indeed
notorious!) GMA500 chipset (aka Poulsbo). I have tested this
fucntionality with both the vesa driver and the new psb_gfx driver and
the problem remains. I reiterate that until the recent power-indicator
fixes suspend mode was being initiated on lid closure as per the power
settings.

Release is Ubuntu 12.04 development and the bug has persisted since the
indicator fix mentioned above, and persists still in the beta 1 release.

** Affects: indicator-power (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 899244] Re: GMA500 psb_gfx

2012-02-25 Thread Paul Dooley
Seconded - a lot of effort has been expended in getting the GMA500 to be
useable within Ubuntu...for a little more Ubuntu could become the best
Linux distro to support this chipset. There seem to be a lot of users
out there who have laptops or notebooks that use this device and getting
the last piece of the jigsaw in place would could make Ubuntu the
preferred operating system for those wishing to keep these systems going
for a few more years (including me!)

2012-02-18 Thread Paul Dooley
Indicator now working correctly but lid closure not being detected (I
normally have it set to go into standby when I close the lid on battery
power)...not sure if this is related or not (it used to work before the
recent problem).

[Bug 933466] Re: Power icon doesn't show charging or draining

2012-02-18 Thread Paul Dooley
Further info on lid closure detection:

upower --monitor-detailed gives the following during a lid close
reopen:

[12:02:42.818] daemon changed:
  daemon-version: 0.9.15
  can-suspend: yes
  can-hibernateno
  on-battery: yes
  on-low-battery: no
  lid-is-closed: yes
  lid-is-present: yes
  is-docked: no

[12:02:46.678] daemon changed:
  daemon-version: 0.9.15
  can-suspend: yes
  can-hibernateno
  on-battery: yes
  on-low-battery: no
  lid-is-closed: no
  lid-is-present: yes

So it looks like the event is being detected ok but not processed.

[Bug 553898] Re: Acer Aspire One ZA3 Ubuntu 10.04 Beta1 does not recognise the monitor (unknown), only a resolution of 1025x768 os available with a refresh rate of 0Hz, options are unable to be alter

2010-04-18 Thread Paul Dooley
Acer Aspire One 751h here - stuck on Karmic for the foreseeable future
unless this can be resolved. A shame because in every other way this
little netbook suits me perfectly, and I would love to be able to run
the latest Ubuntu release on it with full graphics support (or at least
the 1366 x 768 screen resolution)...
