[Bug 780961] Re: Xorg crash in PlayReleasedEvents with Sawfish when using keyboard-based window management

2011-12-14 Thread Paul Holcomb
I built some oneiric packages using the 2 patches from xdebug4. Files are here:
http://www.cpoint.net/paul/xorg/

I just rebuilt these after cleaning up the changelog and version
numbers, but I've been running the same code for several days now with
no crashes.

No crashes in xdebug4 yet, but just like Elliot, the time until X
crashes is highly variable.

Ok, I've got your PPA build running right now, and gdb attached to it.

So far, no luck in getting it to crash yet (which is expected)

[Bug 898214] [NEW] Xorg crash in PlayReleasedEvents() [natty, oneiric]

2011-11-30 Thread Paul Holcomb
Public bug reported:

X crashes upon opening an xterm after a variable amount of time. I've been
able to recreate this bug under Natty
(xserver-xorg-core: 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.2) and Oneiric (2:1.10.4-1ubuntu4.2) but

this problem is hard to reproduce.

[Bug 780961] Re: Xorg crash in PlayReleasedEvents with Sawfish when using keyboard-based window management

2011-11-30 Thread Paul Holcomb
Some more data, which may or may not be useful:

I am unable to reproduce this bug using Selene's method (rapidly
forcing window redraws) and both my machines having the problem are
using the nvidia xorg server.

The only way I've been able to trigger this is to start xterms (and
xterms only) (#898214 ) using a sawfish keyboard shortcut that uses run-
application.jl (http://sawfish.wikia.com/wiki/Run-application).

I cannot reproduce at will. It doesn't seem to be directly related to
the number or xterms I launch or the frequency. I've had the crash
happen a minute after X starts and also not until 10 days later.

 iswitch-window (http://sawfish.wikia.com/wiki/Iswitch-window) is the
only other lisp code other than key bindings present in both machines
that are crashing.

[Bug 297442] Re: XServer seg fault (XkbStringText)

2009-03-25 Thread Paul Holcomb
I have the same problem, but using the Nvidia binary Xorg driver
(nvidia-glx-173), also on Intrepid 64bit.

I think the usb adapter in the original reporters setup may be
important. This crash happens to me every 10 days or so, but as near as
I can tell only when resuming from hibernation, or switching to the
laptop when a certain USB KVM is connected. In my case, a Trendnet
TK-207 (very cheap, like $20).

I'm going to try a new KVM to see if it resolves the problem, but I can
do some testing in Jaunty if it would be useful. Is there any reason to
believe this bug would be fixed there?

[Bug 147216] Re: LVM filesystems not mounted at boot

2008-03-08 Thread Paul Holcomb
Confirmed here under most recent Hardy as well.

Oddly, it worked fine under Gutsy ( I just upgraded)

If I wait for the boot to time out and then run vgchange -ay, everything
works fine.

I've cloned this machine and can re-create the problem in a virtual
machine, so I can test any proposed fixes.

In my case I wonder whether its a udev timing issue

[Bug 133945] soffice.bin crashed with SIGFPE

2007-08-21 Thread Paul Holcomb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-gtk

OpenOffice crashes every time on start. The splash screen gets about
1/3 to completion and then the process exits. This behavior happens
regardless of how its invoked (soffice.bin, oowriter, ooffice -writer,
from menu)

This problem look at lot like a couple other bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/103950
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/89772

But I have an i810 (Intel) and not an ATI card.

Through trial and error I finally figured out that my crash is caused by
(apparently) ANY value being set in gconf for
desktop-gnome-font_rendering-dpi

Now that the value of dpi is unset, OpenOffice seems to work fine for
me.

[Bug 61726] Re: ~/.profile stomps on /etc/gdm/Xsession $1 (session name)

2007-01-17 Thread Paul Holcomb

I'm having a problem with ~/.profile and ~/.xprofile as well

A user's ~/.profile or ~/.xprofile can set aliases or modify paths and
affect further execution of Xsession.

example:

--in run_parts() --

for F in $(ls $1); do
if expr $F : '[[:alnum:]_-]\+$' /dev/null 21; then
  if [ -f $1/$F ]; then
echo $1/$F

--

but if a user has set in their ~/.profile

alias ls='ls -CF'

then run_parts() breaks.

In my example, gnome-power-manager complained about the dbus service
because /etc/X11/Xsession.d/75dbus_dbus-launch never ran

I propose moving the the ~/.profile and ~/.xprofile stanza later in
the script. Although a better solution might be to path-qualify all
the shell commands.

I've attached the patch for the change that worked for me.
